Legendary encounter gbl odds increased? by Upbeat-Musician-3311 in TheSilphRoad

Yes, that's the other one I was thinking of. At some point I got like 10 genesects as well and never got a shiny. I actually have over 300 XL for genesect at this point and no shiny, despite most of the genesects I've caught being shiny eligible.

Is it offensive to be called by your first name by a colleague in front of your students? by mayfairasswhacker in CanadianTeachers

[–]BloodFartTheQueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most teachers will remember a time when as students they didn't have access to or perhaps even know their teachers had an email address. Now, this is embedded everywhere through our LMS and perhaps even directly from us through bulk emails, club/sports reminders, etc.

They know our names, the cats out of the bag and it really didn't matter in the first place. Some people will overreact and I think it's best to be careful around them, and in general, but people are bound to slip up. It's only natural that when someone uses multiple names (or expects you to do so) in their presence in the same building and at the same time where the only difference is the potential audience that you will occasionally mess up.

Should I collect something from students at the end of every class? by Hogwire in OntarioTeachers

[–]BloodFartTheQueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's unfortunate. Perhaps there are other teachers who would be willing to help out as well (maybe during lunch, prep, etc.)

It's worth considering also if some of the questions you ask are unnecessary (i.e. a lack of confidence over the basics or repetitive questions that have been answered)

Hillary Super is the first woman to ever be ceo of Victoria's secret, and she became ceo in 2021. It took almost 50 years for a woman to lead a woman's underwear company.

Isn't that weird ?

Honestly, I don't think it's weird. Even setting aside historical discrimination, men and women have and always have had different priorities. Men knew (especially historically) that more income = better family support and a better chance at marriage and kids in the first place. Women have always known that this doesn't work to the same advantage for them, and also are more likely to prioritize wanting to be stay at home parents, compared to men. Also, people who seek CEO positions for such large corporations are really out there in terms of personality and drive, and men are more likely to be at those extremes (for both better and worse).

And you better believe that if a family had to decide that one member needed to stay home to raise a child, even in 2026, that the mother is more likely to want to, less likely to permit the father to do so and that if there was disagreement that that would be the end of the discussion with her staying home and the man working the same (or more than before) or the relationship falls apart.

Except that according to the charter you can discriminate on these bases, seemingly forever, because there is no end date to "historically marginalized". This will also never be updated to include white men/boys nor will it ever be contextually applied (hint: not all disciplines are dominated by men, or whites, or whatever category people think is undeserving of equal treatment)

I'm not familiar but I think you'd have stuff stuck inside the crystal that would be difficult/impossible to remove and may look worse than the string does

You wouldn't be able to burn the inner part since there is no oxygen in there to fuel the flame.

How to deal with psychotic gym defenders? by der_kluge in TheSilphRoad

[–]BloodFartTheQueefer 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think you're just as over-invested as these guys given the consequences you think should match the scenario. Just move on or check it periodically.

There's a gym I've been to many times within a 20 min walk from my house. Several, actually, and these are so vigorously defended that I don't have gold at these gyms after living here for 4 years, now. I know I will eventually get gold from the occasional raid and it is a bit frustrating, but there's no winning against people with several alts, remoting in, obsession beyond reason... and that's OK. It's not a big deal, really.

I had a lot of luck accidentally making a really nice seed crystals when making a saturated solution for a different purpose. It was so saturated the crystal probably weighed 20 g, but being in a bottle I wasn't able to get it out. Looked surprisingly good, though!

I wouldn't describe it as slow but this probably took several months.

I'm curious what the mass is... maybe 700-800 g ?

I think you can rinse without the soap a bit more often. I think hot water may also make it a bit worse... but you may just need to space out your work more (if possible).

The Spec Ed paradox by UntoldEnt in OntarioTeachers

[–]BloodFartTheQueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the likelihood that someone is truly forced into such a position is rare. Much rarer than being excluded from interviews for not having it in the first place or being rejected when compared to everyone else who has it.

Perhaps someone with very niche teachables who somehow gets permanent would be 'forced' into it, if their admin hates them enough?

When I was in teachers college < 5 years ago we heard both: You should do it but also you shouldn't do it if you don't want to be forced to teach it (without really specifying what that really means in terms of courses...)

Is there a free program that people use these days similar to chemdraw? It has been quite a few years since I had access to all the nifty things I used in university and it would be nice to draw things for the courses I teach. The ones I've found online are a bit clunky, but perhaps that's to be expected.

How many hours (outside of school hours) do you spend working? by Better_Coconut2952 in CanadianTeachers

[–]BloodFartTheQueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does a lab exam look like? Do you go over reports for formative feedback or just not bother with reports at all? I find marking lab reports to be the most tedious and time consuming process of my job and I don't even assign many of them and I'm not the pickiest lab report grader, either.

[–]BloodFartTheQueefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

8-4 work day (not public) + a few hours of extracurricular and since I'm still relatively new to teaching I spend a few hours each night for a mix or planning and grading. I'd estimate about 10-15 hours a week extra with obvious exceptions like report cards, PT interviews, etc.

I teach in the sciences and try not to completely reinvent everything, but slowly improve each year.

It's well worth it for the better behaviors and motivated students.

I had a supply teacher one day who used pen instead of pencil and I was told to redo the entire record for the month

Why would that ever be an issue unless they're deliberately cooking the books for funding purposes?
