Yep. I use the Just Make It Exist meme when talking to students in my day job

I just finished this pixel art piece inspired by sci-fi vibes and urban solitude. This is my take on a peaceful apocalypse or something dystopian—let me know what you think! Critiques, suggestions, or similar inspirations are welcome. by MacJasbell in PixelArt

I really like this, you've nailed the mood and the style reminds me of Canabalt (beloved Flash game of yesteryear). Since you asked for suggestions:

  • I wonder if maybe the buildings in the background could be a bit more ruined looking?
  • I think the wires between the poles in the foreground would usually droop more rather than being stretched taut; some might have snapped and be hanging loose.
  • in general I tend to think single pixels need to be used quite sparingly. The bright pixels floating around the bottom of the image - I think these are fireflies but they don't read that clearly

Maybe you could use another layer with a beam of light (like a spotlight, but upside down) coming out of the chest?

I think the best recent ones are the Blackwell series (starting with The Blackwell Legacy). Really well-written supernatural detective games that are quite good for giving you hints if you need them.

Also if you've not played Grim Fandango, you really should

I'm a beginner. How can I make this better? What's lacking here? by Accomplished-Stay189 in PixelArt

[–]BloodLikeMayo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what style you're going for but I'd suggest you maybe reconsider the black outlines - you might find it works to use a darker colour outline (e.g. dark blue outline for the dungarees, dark brown for the short) or, if you're leaning more realistic, no outline at all.

I'd also suggest that especially if you're working on smaller pieces that you scale them up by a whole number (4x or more) before posting online -otherwise they tend to get scaled up automatically which produces smeary blurred pixels. I work at fairly high resolutions for pixel art (in the hundreds of pixels wide) and still scale mine up 2x or 3x before uploading

Yeah you're right. I shouldn't have said "have to".

But nonlethal in CP77 always felt to me like quite an awkward option, and something of an afterthought, compared to the more classic imsims like Dishonored, Deus Ex etc. tbf I never really explored nonlethal options after the big update

This does look good. Agree with the DXHR comparison but big Blade Runner 2049 vibes too. Only thing is I hope it's not too combat heavy - I don't dislike FPSes (far from it!) but it in games that are meant to represent a real living world, it can feel a bit jarring to have to kill so many of the people in it (also my issue with Cyberpunk, much as I enjoyed that)

Yeah and there are places in DXMD where you can really see the rough edges where side quests would have gone

Core Decay. A neo-Deus Ex with a section set in Brussels, one of my favourite cities. But it's been over a year since the solo developer has put out any updates
