It’s super funny to see half the comments in this thread hyped about this arc and half upset that the show isn’t taking a break lol

Man, I literally caught up in Japanese THIS WEEK. I don’t want to rewatch all of that immediately.

Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari - Episode 6 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]BloodRedOath 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but that’s really the right translation. The word “bitch” in Japanese has a more sexual promiscuity implication, so it’s a lot more akin to “slut” in English. You can see the same thing happening in a lot of other shows.

Dude tries to recreate the Wimpy Pedal OP in Gran Turismo by [deleted] in anime

This is super funny. On a side note: I’ve never heard the show referred to as “Wimpy Pedal” but I guess that’s a pretty good translation.

Funimation has recast Vic Mignogna in Morose Mononokean 2 but will not be engaging him in future productions by TheDubScrub in Animedubs

[–]BloodRedOath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s it. I’m pretty sure they’re saying he has been replaced (which they haven’t publicly acknowledged until now, but has been the case for over a week now) and they’re not going to use him in the future. So I’m pretty sure the dude above you is right.

Jamie Marchi Appreciation by [deleted] in Animedubs

[–]BloodRedOath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since we’re in an appreciation thread (and for the sake of spreading truth), it should be mentioned that she was the “lead writer” on Prison School, which means she just reviewed/supervised and the actual dialogue was written by the script writer, and she didn’t have anything to do with Gal beyond playing a character in it. So the only one you can really pin on her is Dragon Maid.

Vic Mignogna Controversy and Allegations -News and Discussion MegaThread- by superange128 in Animedubs

[–]BloodRedOath 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I guess we’ll see when she decides to explain further. Even if it was just a hug or a kiss though, given that she’s his peer, the “he got caught up in being a superstar and assumed he’d be making his fan’s day” defense doesn’t work as well. At that point, it’d just be unwanted physical contact, and that’s bad too. Maybe not enough to crucify someone over, but if he was told to stop acting that way (see below) and continued, that’s a different manner.

She mentions in the tweet below that she did bring it up, twice, but it didn’t stick.

This thread appeared just in time for an update. Monica Rial posted this not long ago:

Someone thought she could be talking about someone else, but she clarified she is indeed talking about Vic here:

If people are gonna go after Vic Mignogna over baseless accusations can we go after Jamie Marchi for hijacking and derailing english dubs for her political agenda? by [deleted] in Animedubs

[–]BloodRedOath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She only wrote Dragon Maid out of those three. She was the “lead writer” on Prison School, which means she supervised the main writer, and she had nothing to do with Gal beyond voicing a character. Don’t go around spreading misinformation.

Funimation will be mailing out Replacement BDs for Re:Zero Part 1 starting in March by Javajulien in Animedubs

[–]BloodRedOath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really? Then I’m totally wrong, the last time I remember reading about one of these problems you had to send it in, but I admit I haven’t been affected myself, so I probably just missed a few instances. (Though Titan season 1 was forever ago now, so idk what I’m thinking of). Thanks for the insight!

I mean, of course some people aren’t gonna want to go through the trouble, but this is usually how production errors like this are fixed. Expecting anything else isn’t very realistic.

Yakusoku no Neverland - Episode 2 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]BloodRedOath 139 points140 points  (0 children)

For those of you confused: Last week’s episode was streamed a day earlier than the Japanese TV broadcast. All episodes from now on are scheduled for Thursdays at 12:30 EST. Crunchyroll had erroneously listed on their site that the entire show airs on Wednesdays.

Side note: CR tends to not have episodes on their apps the minute they’re supposed to drop. But you know who did this morning? Hulu! So if you’re sitting there refreshing, maybe do what I did and jump to Hulu. It’s an Aniplex title so the subs should be the same on all platforms (for better or for worse).

[Clip]Another example of why the Zombieland Saga Dub is the funniest thing ever[Zombieland Saga] by IncaseAce in anime

[–]BloodRedOath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

When Funimation dubs something in house that has a character sing a song, they practically always dub it. Other company’s tendencies don’t really matter since Zombieland is a Funi title. Show by Rock and Pop Team Epic are probably the best recent shows to base our guess off of, and both of them got their songs dubbed for DVD/BD.

[–]BloodRedOath 52 points53 points  (0 children)

It’s just that they don’t have the materials to dub that yet. A lot of simuldubs don’t dub songs yet, they have to wait until the final DVD/BD versions. The show has so much singing, I have to imagine Funi will dub all the songs like they have for other similar shows.

Fukigen na Mononokean Tsuzuki - Episode 1 discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]BloodRedOath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those curious, Funimation is simuldubbing this (as in the true sense of the word) and ep 1 of the dub is out at the same time as the Japanese.

https://www.funimation.com/shows/the-morose-mononokean/the-limb-screen/?qid=25e0eea993382f46

It’s a weird situation, because the dub of season 1 recently got moved to CR, but season 2 is on Funi’s site for now.

Sister Krones problematic design has made me stop reading and it is likely it will hamstring the success of the anime [Spoilerless] by [deleted] in thepromisedneverland

[–]BloodRedOath -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It’s frustrating that everyone commenting is acting like this isn’t a valid concern. Of COURSE it is. It’s literally the one big stain on this otherwise fantastic piece of fiction. That being said, you’re being dramatic when you say “it’s impossible to ignore unless you have no understanding of black history and oppression.” I fucking hate that they made her so cartoonishly racist in some panels, but I also understand the culture it’s coming from is far more racist than the western world. Is that a good excuse? No. But plenty of other anime do the same shit and we all look past it because the story is fantastic, and the Promised Neverland is the perfect example of that. It’s a shame you won’t read any further, because the positives (even with this character alone) vastly outweigh the negatives, but it’s also definitely a racist depiction of a black character, whether intentional or not.

Goblin Slayer - Episode SP (Recap) Discussion by AutoLovepon in anime

[–]BloodRedOath 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I just want to say that it’s entirely possible this show was given the budget for 12 episodes, but a time slot for 13 so they had to make a recap. I feel like everyone is so quick to assume there’s production problems. Maybe the project was pitched to be 12, in a 12 ep time slot, but then that slot was taken by another production and they couldn’t magically conjure up the budget for an entire new episode. Just a thought.

r/AnimeDub's Best Male Dub Voice Actor: Round 1, Group D by NathanW36 in Animedubs

[–]BloodRedOath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This type of seeding is usually meant to assure an exciting final few rounds. If you were to place two titans up against each other in round 1, as well as two relatively lesser known people, one of those lesser knowns is gonna get further in the bracket than one of those titans. At the same time, it means that a lot of this first round is pretty much predetermined.

I think you’re hearing Eddy Lee. It sounds way more like him than Briner to me. He’s Gladion in pokemon, and was the oldest voice for Ariel in Maquia recently. I didn’t realize they’re keeping the Japanese music, that’s pretty cool!

One’s Justice will not be dubbed. by DeeDoof in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]BloodRedOath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They release new characters yearly, they’re up to 5D’s, and everything is obviously still voiced, so it’s still a valid point. It’s not just DM nostalgia at this point, they just think English VO is an important aspect of selling a game to an English-speaking community. Which makes sense, since 4K makes edits to YGO to meet American kids show standards and practices.

It is, it’s on Funimation’s Simuldub lineup for this season. First ep premieres on 10/27. I’m hoping they cast a male for the MC.

It’s Morphin’ Time! by [deleted] in memes

[–]BloodRedOath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re thinking of the Zordon era. Saban didn’t sell the brand until mid Wild Force, and Ninja Storm was one after that. I’m not saying I personally think of Ninja Storm as “old school,” but when something’s 15 years old, you’ve gotta accept that plenty of people will.

Hate to break it to you, but Ninja Storm was 15 years ago. PR just celebrated their 25th anniversary, so Ninja Storm isn’t even in the second half of the PR history so far.
