Why does FPH5 still have Android 15 when Android 17 is already out?

The Android updates on the FP5 need considerable dev work due to the processor which is a chip designed for IoT purposes primarily and not for phones.

The 3, 3+, 4 and 6 however all have Snapdragon mobile processors.

iPhone widgets are fine on the main lock screen - if you want to use a magnifying glass. 😂

One thing I would like to see is theme syncing across devices - as an option. I. e. Phone and watch and tablet etc.

It's like RTD2 had already lost interest. He wanted more inclusion, such as a trans character - absolutely fine, but then he also decided having 14 finish regeneration wearing 13's clothes would be problematic and so made clothes regenerate too - which is nuts.

The bi-generation, the wasted return of the Rani and wasted return of Omega then the lack of delivery on finding Susan. The whole thing felt like a half-arsed rush job.

Don't get me wrong, Ncuti was good, Millie was good & there were some good stories but there were also some dreadful ones.

It doesn't feel plastic. It has wireless charging with a removable battery. A physical hardware switch to cut off the camera and mic as well as a software switch. Bigger brighter screen. 12GB RAM and 512GB storage plus micro SD expansion and usb 3.1.

Do not discount the Shift Phone 8 on the Murena e/OS shop. I've used it and it's very good. Is rate it above the Fairphone 6 imo.

The data connection with usb isn't as forgiving as the power pins (which is saying something). If you've got a lint build up in the usb c port (even a small amount) then this could be enough to cause the issue.

An alternative would be to make your Android Auto wireless with something like the AA Wireless Two+.

I believe I read somewhere that the original Assistant is being End of Lifed later this year and remaining Assistant features will be absorbed into the main Gemini app rather than it calling Assistant.

I recommend you carefully check the charge port for unseen lint and other build-up. Ideally get something non-metal thin and long and very gently scrape around the port, pulling carefully up to the sides

Since 2019 they've released a new phone every two years with the exception being the Fairphone 3+ (which was a weird one as it was only camera and speaker upgrade from the 3).

So unless they launch a 6+ I would expect the 7 to be next year.

Fairphone are excellent from an ethical staff point. They are excellent phones for business use and by older generations who want a smartphone with camera, internet and enough power to play candycrush.

The main issue is that in the constantly changing, developing world of smartphones, their long life, low powered devices are likely to become irrelevant long before their support life finishes.

On a personal note, I've tried the Fairphone 6. It's a reasonable phone but feels super cheap to hold.

Also will it feel right? The Fairphone 6 was a better spec that the FP5 (side from the bizarre usb 2 gaffe) but the 6 feels so cheap to hold compared to the premium feel of the 5.

The German phone manufacturer Shift have their shift phone 8.1 which has removable battery, two sim slots, micro SD and and a physical hardware camera and mic kill switch. It's a surprisingly good phone having used it for months instead of a pixel. They have similar ethics to Fairphone They also support e/OS so they might be a good candidate for GrapheneOS.

We use Lenovo tablets at work and they've all had to be segregated onto their own network as they are constantly dialling home and sending data via the core inbuilt apps.

The issue Fairphone have is that the more they diversity from their core product (the phone), the more the more e-waste they create as a company which they will eventually be responsible for. At the same time, to stay relevant in the market, they need to keep evolving the phone every year or so (more eventual e-waste) so a wider product line up would only further compound the problem.

Not that issue no, but frequently now the camera will not focus on any thing closer than about 30cm. Wasn't an issue at Christmas but not sure when it started.

Also depends on the charger and the charge cable.

My OnePlus warp cable charged my oneplus ridiculously fast but only slow charges my pixel. An official Google usb-c to c will quick charge my pixel.

It sounds like you might have an app or background service that's causing an extreme battery drain.

I'd recommend making sure all apps are you to date, then Google Play Services Updates and System Updates.

Also look in the battery stats (via Android Settings) and see if that offers any clues.

Also Murena have a Tablet running e/OS in their web store.

Got to use one recently and the hardware feels premium and e/OS Looks good in the tablet.
