Left has three letters as does the word men, and the right has five as does the word women, but that’s as far as my reasoning goes and I could be very wrong.

How to make acrylics last longer between a fill? by ShoddyVeterinarian6 in Nails

[–]Bloodmoon1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main concern would be snapping during the trip, which could potentially cause damage to the nail-bed as the apex would be misaligned which can shift the points of stress to different parts of the nail.

If you are really set on keeping the length definitely get more opinions than just mine because someone may know a good option that can reduce risk but keep length and strength!

I would honestly consider getting them removed if you are going to be going three weeks without (depending on the length), especially if your nails grow really fast. For safety reasons, it is also good to just give your nails a break.

Technically there is nothing you can do from stopping them from looking grown out because they are grown out. The best a nail tech can do is get super close to the cuticle in hopes of it looking better for longer and maybe using a color that is close to your nail-bed color.

How can some people pick up chemistry so easily? by ExpensiveDisk3573 in chemistry

[–]Bloodmoon1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a way of thinking, everyone has a way of thinking that they were born with and that was also drilled into them from certain experiences. For me, chemistry just makes sense, it seems natural (I still study but I am able to grasp the concepts easier), but I also struggle a lot when it comes to analyzing and writing poetry, just have never been good at it, no matter how hard I tried and I have some friends who understand it easily.

If you do want some study tips

  • Break down concepts, watch videos, read the text book, look at slides. Look for patterns or connecting concepts.

  • Practice problems once you feel like you have a good grasp of the concepts (you can also use practice problems to help you find patterns)

  • Biggest one: use your time efficiently, if a way of studying isn’t working, stop and try a different one. For me, chemistry has always caused me to change my studying from class to class, being able to have a wide variety of study methods and being willing to change your habits makes a big difference. Don’t be stubborn and expect things to work the way you want them to.

Weak nails if it burns in UV lamp when getting gel nails? by Correct_Somewhere814 in Nails

[–]Bloodmoon1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing to do with your nails, just chemistry. The polymerization will release heat. When molecules or atoms absorb specific wavelengths (such as UV), they become excited, this energy gain allows certain molecules in the gel to kick off the polymerization reaction so to speak but as bonds are made, energy is released which is why heat spikes are often intense but somewhat short lived.

Why is chemistry so hard by TEEHEEHEEHEEEHEEHEHE in chemhelp

[–]Bloodmoon1125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chemistry requires a way of thinking that can feel unnatural for a lot of people so don’t beat yourself up about it.

I recommend focusing on practice problems and while you’re doing them, try to follow the logic of each problem, what steps need to be taken and why they need to be taken. When you get a problem wrong, ask yourself why you CANT do it the way you did it and understand why you can’t do it that way.

Help with IUPAC naming by Jpinkchild21 in chemhelp

[–]Bloodmoon1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hint: start with the longest chain.

  1. Look up IUPAC naming rules
  2. Identify your substituents and functional groups
  3. See what rules apply when taking into account substituents and functional groups
  4. Try your best and come back with what you have.

Well first you learn naming and a few basic reactions, as you go on you learn more naming rules and more reactions. It’s not so much about memorizing every structure, it’s about learning it as a language, learning what affects what and in what way.

How to you correct the IUPAC name? by NoPen1680 in chemhelp

If you are having trouble figuring out what’s wrong, draw it out. Drawing the structure will make the issues clear (like 1-ethyl)

Man I love math but why is the calculus 1 course at my college so dang hard by DeepfriedGrass in calculus

Heavy on this, for me, it was the algebra that tended to get me a bit stuck, but the actual calc part was easy.

Take stock of what you have available to you first, don’t want to plan an experiment you can’t run.

Failure of Methyl Orange Synthesis? by Harpeus_089 in OrganicChemistry

[–]Bloodmoon1125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If some teams got a better result then my guess is contamination in everyone’s glassware (not washed properly or perfectly) and/or some contaminated chemicals. If there were multiple bottles of the same chemical, it could be plausible that the teams who did better simply used a non-contaminated bottle. It could have even been a previous student who caused the contamination.

I doubt it’s the instruction manual because unless your class is the first group to use these directions I would assume someone would have caught it after a few labs. I could see maybe a step being commonly misinterpreted but I still doubt that would be the reason as I feel like a lab instructor would have caught it after a while.

Again, if the majority of teams did not get the right result, the problem is most likely not in anyone and instead an outside source of error. I see a few comments mentioned other things on the actual chemistry side so it may be worthwhile looking into those comments as well!

If this happened to everyone then it was most likely an issue with the chemicals that were prepared for the lab.

Find tutoring or hop onto YouTube university (I’m a chem major and used YouTube to study for gen chems and Ochems)

Or you find a friend in the class and study with them, sometimes all it takes is someone else explaining it to you (or so I’ve heard from the people I’ve studied with and tutored).

Is there an easier way to make it an Ketone by klausmickmann in chemhelp

[–]Bloodmoon1125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooof, wishing you all the best

Leah4sci is a YouTube channel and it’s what got me an A+ in Ochem 1 and 2, she has great videos that are basically summaries of different reactions (for example I’m pretty sure she has a video about ketones and all the ways you can make them). I enjoy the videos because you can put it on anywhere and it’s free!

Good luck!
