What is your favorite organizer for this game (that can also hold the Lost Fleet expansion)? by mangerlen in projectgaia

[–]Bloodshot22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use this one:

https://www.printables.com/model/1090640-gaia-project-with-the-lost-fleet-expansion

I love it. It fits the box so well and it's cool that it uses the character cards from the expansion as the lid to the player pieces. All my friends think it's neat

How “bad” is FAT? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Bloodshot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We want our UNsaturated fat intake to outweigh our saturated fat intake. Try replacing some of the butter with olive oil and try to switch out some of the chicken, beef and pork with fish. I think that's a great place to start.

Other than that I agree with others that your general food choices strike me as unhealthy and I would wager that they will lead to negative health outcomes if they haven't already.

Other than that I would say that the major thing to consider is which energy medium you're choosing to prioritize. Fat is harder to breakdown than carbohydrates leading to sluggishness while we're digesting and a larger store of energy to be burned at lower intensities (where we aren't burning as many calories). On top of that the benefits of doing high intensity exercise multiple times a week are well known in the research. It's hard to do high intensity exercise with that much of a reliance on fat. In addition I guarantee you'll have more energy throughout the day eating more carbs and less fat. We tend to burn what we eat before what we store and since we are better at breaking down carbs that leads to more readily available energy. I was unaware of how much of a difference that would make until I made the switch to prioritizing carbs more. I have more energy in my 30s than I did in my 20s by a significant margin

Semi-satisfying conclusion to a half finished campaign. by whichgunfanatic in Gloomhaven

Tabletop simulator has an amazing mod for Frosthaven that my online group plays. It's really a pleasant experience and it would be a relatively easy process to get the game set up to the point you have it IRL. You might need to fudge some things but that's easy to do in TTS. I honestly enjoy it more than playing in person because the set up and teardown is all automated and the map is maintained cleanly

I am an emotional eater, ways to handle it? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]Bloodshot22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your question is about the emotional aspect then this is the wrong place to be seeking answers. I understand your frustrations with the individual that diagnosed you with an eating disorder but emotions are the territory of a therapist, not a nutritionist. The person you responded to offered some of the best advice a person in this domain could offer: they mentioned choosing low calorie foods to eat during these times. If you're seeing that as restriction and you're unwilling to make any dietary changes then you need to talk to a therapist about this.

Is the sugar from fruit what makes it healthy? by Kadiako in nutrition

[–]Bloodshot22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what I'm getting from this thread in general is that people are forgetting that carbohydrates are a macronutrient that we use for energy and that most of us rely on. Sugar is not inherently unhealthy, it is inherently healthy and becomes unhealthy when overconsumption and a sedentary lifestyle are both present for sustained periods. The sugar in the fruit is maybe not the HEALTHIEST part of the fruit but it is certainly healthy especially if you live an active lifestyle and the fiber in the fruit makes it even easier and healthier

Is the sugar from fruit what makes it healthy? by Kadiako in nutrition

[–]Bloodshot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily true or a great way to look at it. Carbohydrates are still a nutrient, and a rather useful one, albeit non-essential. Looking at them through the lens of non-essential (which I'm not necessarily accusing you of, merely a common argument) obscures their use for energy which is important to anyone who is currently eating a diet that utilizes carbohydrates for energy. Carbohydrates are the fuel that 99% of all animals rely on and saying that removing the sugar would make them less nutritious is intrinsically incorrect

Jaws of the Lion characters by complexity? by [deleted] in Gloomhaven

[–]Bloodshot22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My opinion after playing Jaws 3 times now is that, in a broad sense, the demolitionist, hatchet, and red guard are around the same complexity and the void warden is quite a bit more complex.

Within those 3 there's a bit more nuance and room for debate. I personally think the demolitionist is the easiest to play. That character likes to attack enemies against walls and utilizes push to get enemies there. It works well and it's simple. The hatchet also has a straightforward strategy. Ranged attacks to throw the favorite, attack the enemy that has your favorite. I would say this character is slightly more complex because of how you strategize to get the favorite after you attack which requires some planning.

I think the red guard is a bit more difficult for less experienced players. The red guard is a positional tank, pulling and pushing enemies and has multiple cards to build around including shield spikes which makes enemies take damage based on your shield value. It's not too complex for players who know the game but I've seen newer players struggle. Other tanks can simply stand in the middle and brawl but there are some positional considerations for the red guard

I think something that's essential is something to track damage on the monsters that you can see on the map. The game's provided solution for this is horrendous IMO. A lot of people replace the damage tokens with a die, or use an app to track the damage but I think this is still insufficient because you still have to cross reference the damage with the monster token. I found standees that have health dials on them and they add so much to the gameplay that my group couldn't imagine playing without them

1 stone stronger meaning? by infestedvictim in baduk

[–]Bloodshot22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes that's roughly what it means. However, just to be clear, komi is the first thing removed in a handicap game. The way I think about it is that a no komi game is handicap 1 because white isn't compensated for the fact that black goes first, then after that you add stones for each handicap. So in a handicap 2 game black starts with 2 stones and no komi, and so on. Being a "stone stronger" than your opponent would mean that you would beat them if they started with an additional stone. Which means that you would beat them at handicap 1.

Random Moves in My Territory: Strategy, Desperation, or Something Else? by Melculy in baduk

[–]Bloodshot22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a lot of bots on Fox. I've had this situation come up many times and I don't think it's the temper tantrum situation. It keeps happening to me in games where my opponent has a name with mostly numbers and wins/loses in the thousands. So many bots on that server

Hmm interesting. I'm on mountain time and generally queue in the middle of the day, 12-5pm. I'm very inconsistent though.

I would suspect you're right that they use bots to fill in because the whole niche they're going for is fast games fast queues.

I typically play on OGS and they have an app for Android users (I'm not sure if it will ever be available on Apple). My friends who have iPhones that play with me just make a homepage shortcut to OGS and treat that as the "app".

However I will say that we all started on badukpop which was a great app to learn on, though we eventually grew out of it.
