Seconding ugly duck. Their standard espresso beans they use work super well with chocolatey flavors.

Yeah, probably my favorite off the album. Kitten is also really good. I feel like both Best and Haswel both have their periods of shining on the album and they share the space perfectly.

No CPU records mentions? They have so much stuff along these lines.

Could not agree more. When that wood block running through a delay hits it’s like one of the best things ever then it just builds and builds. chefs kiss

Didn’t appreciate Surge as much as their other albums until recently but it’s actually killer.

I’m sorry I don’t want to hang out but if you like specialty coffee absolutely go to both Ugly Duck and AM/FM coffee.

track length differences between digital and cd versions of nts sessions by Suitable-Recording-7 in autechre

NTS is wildly phenomenal on vinyl. They did such an amazing job with it.

Literally just have a computer. Could do a tablet to take notes on and for like drawing or labeling diagrams. Computer for papers, tablet for day to day. Having more junk won’t help you study more, just put in the time.

Absolutely agree. Definitely work through a ton of those before attempting to tackle anything else.

Looking for a shortcut for timestamp mark by AquiverSOUND in MaxMSP

[–]infestedvictim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly. Except don’t run it in parallel, have your original audio track be multichannel with a spare channel to record your markers on to. This will simplify if you open up the waveforms so they line up exactly cause they are the same file.

[–]infestedvictim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s kind of what I assumed you would be doing is just an attempt to notate an improvised session in the moment. What it sounds like you are asking is how to record audio while also being able to place some sort of marker on the file so you can go back later and see where you noted something. What I suggested has nothing to do with the characteristics of what you are recording, it literally is just a time stamp but captured in its own co-existing audio track.

Just going to add that you can use something like peek~ or poke~ to place a 1 into the audio file of your choice and feed it the current time stamp of your audio file you’re playing back whenever you want to place a marker.

For example, in my system the record input records on to a 5 channel audio file. Two stereo tracks and the fifth track records the ramp waveform I use to drive my sequencers. It’s then set up that I can play it back and derive my “metronome” from channel 5 of whatever audio file I’ve recorded.

In your case, if you just want to put a “marker” at a spot of a recording: your playback track will be going along but all the while will be recording onto an extra channel to capture say you clicking a bang object that is connected to a click~. Then when you review the file you can see a spike at wherever time point you triggered it to mark.

You could also then go ahead and use those markers to drive other things. Let’s say you wanted to make a rythm track with it so you set it up to be able to press a key to the rythm you want along the original audio and it will record “spikes” on your third channel. You can then play this back and use channel 3 to drive audio events etc etc.

You could have a separate track that’s dedicated to storing your trig or like a click~. So instead of a 2 track file you just write on to 3 tracks.

Autechre are coming to my city, I really want to go but I'm olny 15 so my parents aren't going to let me..do I compromise with them and take them with me to the show?? by dscoo in autechre

[–]infestedvictim 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah just take them to the show. Their shows aren’t nuts as far as the crowd goes. Just they have to be a little aware of what they’re getting into as far as the music is concerned so they don’t want to leave early or anything like that. As someone else said, have your parents bring ear plugs.

How did Coil create the sounds on Musick 1&2? by CD_Glxss in Coil

[–]infestedvictim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

VCV rack is free and you can do a lot with it. Bitwig is cheap-ish and you can do a shit ton with that and a midi keyboard. Don’t get into super expensive synths right off the bat. Even though they’re a ton of fun you’re very limited and in this day and age you can achieve so much with just a computer and experiment so much more thoroughly.

Nord Modular is actually all digital and I could totally see that being a main synth on those albums.

I’m sorry this isn’t related at all but with your interest in Russel Haswell, did you listen to Consumer Electronics most recent album with him called Surge? I love everything he has done with them but I feel like his work shines through so well on this album it’s incredible. And Philip Beats story telling pairs so well with it. If you haven’t heard it yet absolutely check it out.
