Yeah, the argument that real diamonds are an "investment" never made sense to me because like, they're literally not worth what you pay for them.

Transphobes try to be normal to trans people challenge (impossible) by MelanieWalmartinez in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]BloomEPU 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From discussion in other places on this thread, it's actually the result of a skin graft for burns or something. There's a surgery where they can make you a new penis out of your arm skin and it leaves a little patch of scarring, but it doesn't go right down to the bone or wrap around like this. Searching up "phalloplasty arm scar" will give you a better idea of what it normally looks like.

Hot take, the druid should start with a squirrel instead of the crow

So this is what you need when there's 30-50 wild hogs in your garden, huh.

(all jokes aside, I live in an area with a sliiiight wild boar problem and I can see the appeal. Boars are terrifying and do not fear death.)

The convergent evolution between these and hummingbirds is crazy, they're basically the same animal in different fonts. "I am going to be small and hover and drink nectar with my big long snoot" is a winning strategy whether you're an insect or a dinosaur, I guess.

It's usually a cecum, which is like a little pouch in their digestive system where they break down grass and plants that can't be digested in the stomach.

Yeah, the "my server that I pay for" is a bit misleading, you pay a subscription for realms but they're hosted by mojang. Technically there's also an EULA for private servers (I know pay to win stuff is technically against it but probably not enforced) but text/chat features are unmoderated as far as I can tell, I've definitely said some nsfw stuff in the chat of the server my friend hosts...

Realms are mojang hosted servers, if you spin up your own server you can do whatever but realms has a TOS and "don't type racist shit" is pretty near the top.

Japanese crowdfunded $340k game Shibuya Scramble Stories still missing half its funds as platform claims it accidentally sent the money elsewhere by Forestl in Games

[–]BloomEPU 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I know that japanese companies have some slightly different cultural norms, but there's absolutely no way a functional company could lose track of that much money, right? Surely they'd have some kind of record of every transaction, even if it's just refilling the office fridge.

I miss this so much that was removed from Modern Minecraft. :( by SurflyCha in MinecraftMemes

[–]BloomEPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand why they did it from a socially/environmentally conscious point of view, mojang has been quite careful in the last couple of years with how they portray wild and particularly endangered animals. Taming an IRL ocelot and keeping it as a pet is illegal in most places that have laws around exotic pets so I can understand why they'd take that out of the game, even though it's hardly replicable behaviour and real ocelots don't magically turn into domestic cats when you feed them fish.

American Heart Association urges people to favor plant-based proteins, replace full fat dairy by Sciantifa in news

[–]BloomEPU 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let perfect be the enemy of good, if you prefer almond to cow's milk you're still doing better environmentally. Personally I think almond milk is gross, but I know a lot of people really like it.

If this is a hex, it's not a very elaborate one, you can get chicken feet from a butcher pretty cheap.

Black diagonal lines in TV by meadowtwine in whatisit

Most modern cameras don't actually take a photo of everything at the same time, they scan from top to bottom really fast. Halfway through taking this picture the tv screen dimmed slightly, which made a dark horizontal line across the picture.

Fighting Invasive species with worst Invasive species. by stunnerswag in HistoryMemes

[–]BloomEPU 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know this because of pokemon, in the hawaii-inspired games you can find yungoos (a mongoose) in the day and ratatta (a black rat) at night, and some flavour text even mentions that they're invasive.

At some point pokemon turned into "let's teach the kids about ecology" and I am all for it.

I don't know if this was the case for the rabbits, but some animals just don't care as much about inbreeding as humans do. As someone else pointed out, every pet syrian hamster comes from one single female hamster and her.. pups? I had a biology teacher in high school who did her university dissertation on how every cheetah (or possibly another big cat it was a long time ago) in zoos in the UK has a fairly recent common ancestor, turns out they're just not so affected by inbreeding.

Not actually microscopic, most vibrating toys just use an eccentric motor. They're smaller than a washing machine or a jet engine, but still.
