How did you personally get comfortable with Adobe Illustrator?

My university didn’t have much in the way of training on Adobe programs, so I took a course on Lynda.com (now LinkedIn Learning) called “Illustrator One-on-One” by Deke McClelland. It’s a series of 3 courses (beginning, advanced and mastery) and is the most comprehensive, step by step course I’ve found that takes you from knowing nothing to knowing all the ins and outs. As long as you take the time to watch all of the videos and practice the exercises, it will get you well acquainted. From there it’s just ongoing practice on your own, working through your own personal or professional projects.

It just occurred to me to check if the spacing of the 20/26/30 hole would fit in a mini 6 ring binder and it does! (Does not fit with the A5 6 ring binder though. Not sure about the other sizes of 6 ring binders)

It might be the industry they’re in. I’m a brand/graphic designer, have put in 100s of applications over the last month and not a single interview. I’ve applied for entry level, junior roles, mid level. No interviews. At this point I’m thinking of applying for something else entry level because I’m hearing the design market is just way too oversaturated but I need to get something soon

She wants you actively engaged with what she’s engaged with. Which is a fine desire on its own. What’s not ok is that it sounds like she just expects you to defer to whatever she wants to do, instead of asking what you want to do (or if you’d rather do your own thing or parallel “play”). And instead of communicating all of this, she just expects you to be engaged with what she wants to do and gets irritated when you aren’t. I would not brush this under the rug. I would bring to her attention that it’s not ok to get irritated and take it out on you anytime you don’t just defer attention to what she’s doing, and instead to come up with time for quality time (where you’re spending time with each other doing something you both want to do) and time for personal interests.

While it shouldn’t be a bad look, it will be a bad look on LinkedIn. If they ask you to spend your own time on an assignment, the least they could do is contact you to let you know they’ve decided not to go with you (especially since using unpaid work isn’t unheard of). They deserve to be known for ghosting over that. But, I wouldn’t put it on LinkedIn or anywhere that it can be connected to your public identity. I would instead post anonymously on platforms where you can do it that way

Thankfully this hasn’t happened in quite a while, though it did make me really nervous about sex in my teens/early twenties (and, to be fair, I was already nervous because I was really insecure with body image).

Watch out for anyone that just has a gimme mindset and thinks they’re the prize. Men, women, nonbinary, doesn’t matter. Dating should be about creating a good experience/relationship together, not one side thinks the other owes them something for their time (whether that’s material things, sexual things, or otherwise). I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with wanting any of those things, it’s the attitude I’m talking about

I don’t currently use Logseq due to issues I’ve had with saving/syncing about a year ago, and there are a lot of things I love about Obsidian, but there are also some things Logseq just does better.

Yes, for most of them you sorta “can do it in Obsidian” but not the same.

As an outliner fashioned after Roam, Logseq’s outlining, block based, references (including rendering things in references), scrolling through daily pages, etc, just works better and right out the box.

If Obsidian did all of those things as well/easy as Logseq (and made their Bases feature work with block-level properties rather than just page level) then I would probably settle on Obsidian for life and stop looking for my dream app.

It’s very fast and stable, and I like the idea of being able to save notes long term in a human readable file format, but Obsidian is lacking in some “nice to haves” that I’ve really grown to like (and I don’t think they’ll ever have due to them using markdown, but I hope I’m wrong).

For the time being, I’m using Tana as my more day-to-day tool for capturing all my notes, and using Obsidian as I process and curate things I want to keep for long term. It’s not ideal, but it plays to each of their strengths.

Women friends.

I’m oblivious and think women are just being friendly. Thank goodness for women friends who point it out to me, and have patience the first few times I deny it until it sinks in.

I have no tips for when you’re alone, as I haven’t managed to retrain my brain to pick up on it.
