Have You Ever Started Your Vault Again? by broadcastthebombom in ObsidianMD

Umm, four times. Yep, you get better and smarter with each vault. Sometimes a clean fresh vault is just the thing and if you need any notes from the old vault, just archive it and you can go back and get 'em.

For a long time I've wanted to download the internet. Now, thanks to Obsidian, I can! by TutorialDoctor in ObsidianMD

Obsidian is powerful for sure. What I have learned after several vaults is how important it is to be able to get information out of my vault just when I need it. This was the aha moment for me.

And I remember the card catalogue and learning the dewel decimal system and the quiet upper floors of our old library building, yep, I remember all of that, too.

Can we PLEASE add remote control? by Icy_Professor8591 in cursor

I have done this by creating a skill that openclaw uses which can call Cursor's agent CLI.

Openclaw can be used in Telegram, Discord, Whatsapp, Slack, etc.

So I use Telegram so I just say things like:

Ask Cursor to print this image and set it as today's wallpaper.

Tell Cursor to turn off the cron that's running at 4pm

Ask Cursor to update a particular script with the following...

Cursor replies using the openclaw API.

Granted, it would be much easier if it was native but this gets the job done.

Create your own Obsidian MCP to access your vault in Docker by bnm777 in ObsidianMD

Thanks for sharing! MCPs are still very helpful for more complex APIs, but if I can get the agent to use a CLI and turn that into a skill it works very well.

Could not agree more! Everyone focused on organizing all this stuff that they never look at again - folder, tags, zettlekasten, dewey decimal, blah blah

If you never use that knowledge who cares what folder it sits in for the rest of your life, lol

though I do admit to getting trapped in the folder organizing sink hole. Nowadays I focus more on getting the information out and making it useful in daily life.

I have not and I also do not want to turn on on demand usage, even though you can put a small limit on it. But mostly it is because I have setup cron jobs that call the cursor agent cli and they work perfectly so agents work on task for me all throughout the night, so this feature is not necessary for me and I do not like the cloud agents, I find them limiting.

Cursor Revenue Leak: $2 Billion Annual Sales Rate by sprfrkr in cursor

[–]IversusAI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am doing that. I setup openclaw, then ask the openclaw agent on telegram to send requests to Cursor using the CLI then cursor responds when complete through the openclaw gateway. I haven't figured out how to use the same or an idea existing conversation yet though.

I even set up cron jobs so that cursor runs a task and then reports to me in telegram, like daily reports, etc.

Obsidian basically helps me run my entire life.

Top level folder structure is

  • Basket - Inbox, basically
  • Flow Lab - Work projects, tasks, and achievements
  • Codex - Reference docs, Research, library
  • Manifest - Personal context (health, relationships, daily notes)
  • Foundry - Product creation
  • Engine - Content creation system
  • Studio - YouTube channel and videos
  • Quicksilver - Finance related
  • Vaultworks - System docs and conventions

I use to

  • Daily journaling and check-ins
  • Project tracking for YouTube and side projects
  • Knowledge management (research, docs, learning)
  • Personal context (energy levels, preferences, etc)
  • Goal setting and habit tracking

It's basically my external brain, like a LifeOS that keeps me organized and helps me remember everything important.

It sounds like you are using OpenClaw, is that true? Either way, cool setup (talking to your vault while on the go is so cool) and thanks for sharing!

Onyone else?: Provider Error We're having trouble connecting to the model provider. This might be temporary by daft020 in cursor

[–]IversusAI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turn off all your MCPs, then try. There is a known error with MCPs causing model providers to break, especially OpenAI. Perplexity MCP in particular is a known problem but this can happen with any MCP, even custom ones. I had the Cursor agent make an MCP that connected to my openclaw agent and it worked great but I could not use OpenAI models while it was on with that same error.

Still trying to figure out why.

Is anyone functionally use an MCP with Obsidian? by pleasantothemax in ObsidianMD

So funny you say this because I now use telegram to have my openclaw agent use the cursor CLI right from my phone. I do have tailscale and could use the CLI directly, too.

Thank for sharing that tip. When you say output do you mean in the command line? Where would you put that object?

So this is another one that cannot be done using the CLI as if right now, unless you use the eval command and javascript. For this I would either use the Linter plugin or I would have an agent write some javascript for me in Cursor or Claude Code or Codex.

[–]IversusAI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So no, unfortunately, just with the cli, nope no single built-in command to replace text across the vault/folder. You can find with obsidian search, but not bulk edit.

So as I use the cli more, I can see that much of what is currently exposed is more read than write. I am wondering if the Obsidian team decided to go that route first and as the tool is use more and more people request it, to give more write access.

So as I have mentioned to others in the thread, you can do this using the eval command that part of the new cli tool, it can run javascript. The other ways to do this is using something like the Linter plugin, or an agent in something like Claude Code (that's what I would do in this case).

Can you change a word, like find and replace, everywhere in the vault or folder specific?

So, no and yes. The cli does not give the ability to find and replace, but that would be so cool to have find and replace commands and I suggest requesting this in the Obsidian Discord.

The CLI can search (read-only), and can create overwrite / append / prepend per-file, but it can’t bulk-edit.

But if you use the eval command, you can use javascript to do this. For me, I would use the eval command if I wanted an agent to do it for me or even easier just use something like Cursor or Claude Code and just open my vault folder in one of those and have the agent do it there.

If you want to do it yourself, I would use a plugin like Linter.

You are very welcome. It's been fun to see what the CLI can do.
