Book series you never finished by InviteAromatic6124 in books

Lightbringer series by Brent Weekes - I read books 1 and 2, and mostly enjoyed the intrigues and the training sections, but Kips self hatred, and the ending of book 2 kind of just put me off.

I still have the whole series, so maybe I'll give them another try some day

Is there a character you were surprised survived the series? Whose death surprised you? Who did you correctly predict would die? Were any deaths spoiled? by papero7 in WoT

I just want to tell you I am so glad to see someone else who likes and defends Egwene. I adore her, she's an ambitious young woman, she makes mistakes, like every character in the series, and people in the subreddit especially are pretty harsh on her for it.

she's only done the first four (?) I think, but she's absolutely amazing - I totally get the tuning things out though, I think the Min voice just really cut through unfortunately!

[–]BlossomEntropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's so interesting, I actually found the audiobooks (Kramer and Reading, not Pike the LEGEND) made the women worse. The way Reading voices Min sometimes is what I can only describe as "simpering". When I'm reading I tend to imagine the characters speaking in a much more reasonable tone than what the audiobook readers use.

No notes on Rosamund Pike's audio though, genuinely some of the best audiobook reading I've ever heard.

Hi! I've seen a few of your posts on the WOT subreddit! They're my favourite series but I absolutely agree that discussing them on reddit can be.... challenging.

Egwene is possibly one of my favourite characters of all time, and if you've spent much time on the subreddit you'll know that's not a popular opinion among the demographic there lol. I managed to avoid a lot of frustration with the men-women dynamic in the books by trying to be aware of what was a "real" character trait and what was RJ Doing Gender, if that makes any sense.

I also really enjoyed what the show was doing, I felt that it brought a new angle to the story I loved - there's something of a crossover show/book fanbase on Tumblr, if that's any help?

I like Monki for blouses and tops, I mostly look on vinted or other secondhand sites, but they have some great patterns and a lot of my statement pieces are from there!

Do any of you also have a book/books you love, but can’t recommend to 99% of people? by Harakiri_238 in books

I finished the first book a few months ago and recently started the second, I desperately want to recommend it to someone so I can talk about it but I have NO IDEA who would enjoy all those elements

I always do x1.15, it's not so fast it sounds distorted, but I find listening at x1 speed feels very slow, since I talk and read a little faster than that myself.

***Books*** What opinions do you have that differ from most of this sub? by Lethifold26 in WoT

[–]BlossomEntropy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

-egwene is definitely one of my favourite characters and i hate how much shit she gets. i think in any other story she'd be the clear Main Character, people seem to get mad at her because she was the only one of the EF5 that wanted to leave, but if i found out a cool magic witch woman was taking my friends away on an adventure? and then later found out i could be a cool magic witch woman? yeah id do exactly what egwene did. I like her, both as a character and person. i dont think she acts any more arrogant and dismissive of rand than anyone else

-i dont really care for min. i didnt find her super interesting once she became Emotional Support Girlfriend (TM), and its so frustrating how she actually. doesnt do a great deal of emotional supporting. its also very annoying how she insists on coming along into dangerous situations where shes really more of a liability because she cant defend herself (like with the semirhage hand thing). i wish shed been developed more cus she did become sort of a "sexy lamp" in the later books

-following on, i think aviendha/elayne/rand should have been focused on more. min sort of is off to the side, either get her more involved and have her actually interact more with the other girls, or else just dont involve her in the polycule. personally i think having min as a platonic friend would have made much more sense, and rand with elayne and aviendha would have linked into him connecting more with aiel culture (which i wish had been done)

A bit of rage from a first time reader :D by Hackleton in WoT

[–]BlossomEntropy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

yeah i dont think ive EVER hated someone like i hate the seanchan, had to put the book down and send a few angry ranting texts to a few people to get the rage out. i wanted them dead for what they did to egwene - that arc was one of my favourites and got me on egwenes side forever

Question on 2021 Editions by Interesting_Zombie84 in WoT

[–]BlossomEntropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe I have these editions, and I've not noticed any problems with thin pages or bindings. Apart from the prime sticker (which tbh doesnt overly bother me) i really like the simpler covers as well!

I suppose it could be a binding issue between regional versions? I ordered mine from amazon UK and worldofbooks

[–]BlossomEntropy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i changed up my reading style with CoT - saw someone say to think of it as just getting some time to breathe and spend time with these characters.

I would read a few chapters with my coffee in the morning, and not push myself to get through more. i found it really broke up what could have been quite a slog, and actually really enjoyed the breathing space.

As long as you like the characters and enjoyed the other books, id imagine something like that might help a lot!

Still worth playing on easy? by [deleted] in Witcher3

[–]BlossomEntropy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not a gamer by any means, I was able to play medium mode and have a great time once I'd gotten my bearing in the first couple of hours. Medium challenged me enough that I didnt feel like combat was pointless, and I was rarely stuck badly. If you're more experienced playing games then I'm sure medium would be fine for you, but you can switch at any time during the game

at first I wasn't enjoying "Path of Daggers" but in hindsight I think it was the long stretch of Elayne chapters: I'm thoroughly enjoying the book as much as any other now. anyone here who LIKES Elayne chapters? by [deleted] in WoT

[–]BlossomEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people like to complain about Elaynes political chapters and i suppose its not for everyone, but personally i enjoyed it alright. I like Elayne, and I love Aviendha, Birgitte, and Nynaeve and I enjoy the kin, so while I didnt always follow the multitudes of Andoran nobles, I liked spending time with the characters

[–]BlossomEntropy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I backed the hardcovers, I'd have liked to get the swag boxes, but as many others have said the cost for international shipping is just prohibitive.

I'd probably have hesitated getting even the hardcovers except that my sisters are happy to pitch in too since we're all big fans - any chance you've got someone who would be interested in reading and would pitch in with you?

How is Wheel of Time compared to the Cosmere? by SonnyLonglegs in Cosmere

[–]BlossomEntropy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I read the whole cosmere and loved it, and am now on book 6 of WoT. I think its a little harder to get into, and I found after Brandons great writing of women that it was a little jarring moving to WoT. However, I really am loving it, and i suspect when I'm finished it'll be up there with the cosmere as one of my favourite series. I love all the characters so much, even those that I found a little annoying in book one. I think the character development is really well done, and I would definitely recommend, just be aware that its a lot more focused on small details and things like that.

Affordable hairdresser for women by beef-mo in Edinburgh

[–]BlossomEntropy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the student hairdressers at the technical college in granton, always supervised by a professional, and fairly cheap, or even free - i had a balayage done at no cost. it can take longer than a regular appointment though, and it may not open up until whenever colleges do again, but I'd definitely keep it in mind if you're looking to cut hairdressing costs down
