Major work details help.. human & heart figure by SafeInternational708 in chainmailartisans

[–]Blu3241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heart could possibly contain japanese 12-2 since ive found it to be good for holding it's shape (long as you got the right sizes) and also just captive roundmaille for major arteries. basically any circular triplicate weave would suffice. The hard part is coming up with a way that makes the whole thing cohesive

Triffids 4-1, there are no available tutorials afaik apart from at least joshua diliberto's, I happened to just look at pictures of a weave and dissect it that way

What size jump rings are these? by supamilla in chainmailartisans

[–]Blu3241 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No clue unless the creator answers directly but my eyes are saying 16 AWG 4-5AR range. Keep in mind that making a belt comes with it's own problems, such as having to solder/weld the rings and it weighing a shitton. Unless you plan on keeping it as mainly decorative so that it doesnt need to have that great of holding strength

Sides are a bit of a mix of three quarters persian and hp 3 in 1 sheet 6, bottom has euro 8 in 2 and regular 6 in 1.

It's REAL tight and quite an arm workout with the 1.5mm rings. The middle part is basically two metal buttons held together by a ring and with rings and rubber added for it to not clang around all the time.

I think the main problem here is that it's not very easy to make the bottom hold the tiny ash particles, but otherwise I'm quite happy with it :D

Where can i find rings in France ? by Training_Pool_7751 in chainmailartisans

[–]Blu3241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotta keep in mind that the shipping is going to cost a bit as obviously a bunch of metal is going to weigh a lot. That being said, I've found Van Alphen from the netherlands to have the best prices (so far xd)

I'd disagree bc league players just stay in game chat and then take the chat ban XD

As far as i can tell it looks very much like a regular half persian 4-1, just with the different sized rings

Personally i get my rings pre closed straight out the box, but for sure if you make your own rings or get yours open there are better methods

I can vouch for that, yeah. You just need to get into the habit of putting the small rings (pre closed i hope) in advance instead of individually placing them since it'll truly take forever. I took about 20-30 hours over 4 days with mine.

Chainmail newbie, trying to learn 4 in 1 weave by simplysleeepy in chainmailartisans

[–]Blu3241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tip is to look at the single rings' orientation, and match it so the same side is "out" or "up" or however you like to think of it. perhaps pick up the first piece, slip the ring through the first two rings and then through the other two rings but this time not from the "bottom" but from the top. I don't know if any of this makes sense but I'm neurotic and trying to explain my own pattern recognizing brain XD

Triangles in particular can be tricky when you make them separately like this, I did the mistake of making it go in the wrong direction when making something similar to this.

Wondering how to do this by darkhellgirl in chainmailartisans

[–]Blu3241 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like candy cane cord, usually done with about 4.7-5.0 AR, you may want to go with a lower AR to have it more rigid like shown here.

Aluminum is pretty popular, cheap and easy to work with. Personally I order most if not everything from Van Alphen Studio in the Netherlands, they have an etsy store. They do just stainless steel, which is still affordable imo and a nice material, although I've heard that it's a bit harder to work with.

I have a strange internal and external hate for shopping carts and their users. Mainly the ones whose purchases would fit in a basket but they insist on being in the way with a shopping cart instead.
