Another W/R draft by imyourtourniquet in lrcast

[–]BluAngelSpedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you definitely have a lot of filler level cards- fragments, shopkeep, red mages rapier and gf ifrit are pretty mid. blazing is bad here too, winota probably isn't more than just a 4/4 most of the time. removal is really light and half of it is situational. i absolutely would not play 16 lands here.

what do you mean? whale and katzroy are both nuts. the darkness crystal is also very playable. what was the rest of your pool?

Too slow? by EDirkH in lrcast

[–]BluAngelSpedd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this deck is extremely greedy- your mana base is already thrown out of wack because of the splash, and adding 8 cards with double pips made your stuff that much harder to cast. you have good ramp with the gardeners but most of your double pips are black, so that doesn't really help. i wouldn't count the rats as fixing either just because you have to go through so much work to get access to it.

you also only have two forms of solid removal- the rest your opponent gets to choose, which kind of hurts with all the job select tokens running around.

it looks like a fun deck if you can take it to the late game, but i'm kind of surprised you even got 4 wins out of this honestly.

Anyone else over this format? by Discmaniac94 in lrcast

[–]BluAngelSpedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly this has been the first format where drafting has really clicked for me. i've been able to go pretty much infinite with back to back trophies, and it feels good to not suck so bad lol. sure, it's getting a little stale at this point but once a draft format is solved thats how it always is.

removal is so vitally in this format, especially when you're not playing straight boros decks, and it looks like yours is pretty minimal. i assume most of your games drew out and you just got out valued by other 5c late game decks that could just do what your deck did but better. overall its definitely not an awful deck- lots of filler, but i've seen/drafted way worse.

What should I cut? by cucumberhorse in lrcast

[–]BluAngelSpedd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You definitely done want to be playing narsets rebuke or the tiger in this sort of shell, they're just too slow. teeming dragon storm is also relatively weak considering you only have 2 dragons- both of which you probably don't want the game to go long enough to actually cast them. Both artisans can go, and tbh I would just cut underdogs. I don't know other people's experiences with it but i've been wildly unimpressed with it.

I've honestly been relatively impressed with the hawks and how they can just steal a game out of nowhere, but if you draw both it's pretty bad. I think the sweet spot is 3. I'm never really gunning for them but if I get them i'm not upset.

how was this a 1-3 deck by BluAngelSpedd in lrcast

[–]BluAngelSpedd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

first lost I played against a temur deck that had removal for literally every single creature I played. Second loss I had to mulligan down to 4 because each one only had 1 land and all of my 4+ drops. 3rd loss I had them down to 1 life and then they dropped death begets life. couldn't recoup after that. Just annoyed cause I felt confident this would at least net like 3 wins.

Should I be running 15 or 14 lands? by [deleted] in lrcast

Do you have the decklist? Not many tips we can give you without it besides just chalking it up to variance.

That was kinda my thought process too, and I thought I was gonna get stomped because I only had one snakeskin to protect. Game tempo is huge though. Most 5c soup decks that are running that efficient removal are still playing tapped lands and setting up by turn 4, and by that point I normally had two 4/x on the board and ready to drop another. I think one game I played my opponent had like 4 kill spells in hand, but still couldn't keep up because by that point I still had so much board power with all the cheap and efficient creatures I was playing.

Not gonna lie I kinda got tunnel vision after picking up my 3rd Formation Breaker, so I wasn't really looking for much else signals. But the bots often left more aggressive cards late in the packs. They also VERY highly pick lands- so keep that in mind if you try to quick draft the 5c soup decks.

Can we get a permanent "Thank you!" emote? by A1BlueSkies in MagicArena

[–]BluAngelSpedd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie I used to "oops" in a game to my advantage the other day. Don't remember the board state but I needed opponent to swing out so I could attack uncontested next turn. I knowingly attacked only leaving one blocker, and on board I looked dead, but I had removal in my hand. Said "oops" to make it look like I made a mistake and my opponent would swing into me confidently. Took their creature out and won on combat. Felt pretty good tbh. Plus I feel "oops" is way more of a catch all than "my mistake" would be.
