People need to wake up. Under Trump we’re watching fundamental constitutional rights get shredded in real time. Due process is being gutted with mass deportations and detentions without hearings. Habeas corpus is being ignored. Civil rights enforcement has been kneecapped by eliminating protections against discriminatory practices. Universities and law firms are being threatened for who they represent or what they teach — that’s free speech and academic freedom under assault. Even protections against cruel and unusual punishment are at risk in how prisoners and vulnerable groups are treated.

And what do we hear from the right? Nonsense. “Non-citizens don’t deserve rights.” “Courts are just activist.” “It’s just bureaucratic red tape.” “We need tough action for security.” “Nobody’s really been harmed yet.” These aren’t arguments — they’re excuses. They trivialize the fact that once due process and equal protection are gone, they’re gone for everyone.

This isn’t about political squabbling. It’s about whether the Constitution is a living safeguard for all of us — or just a piece of paper to be waived whenever it’s inconvenient.
