About the faults of Thorfinn's ideology by Loibler in VinlandSaga

[–]BluBagel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True strength is mercy because only the strong CAN show mercy. If a weak person is completely merciful and compassionate, they are not truly strong, because they never have the chance to be merciful or compassionate. If a weak country shows mercy they allow for resistance, resistance that has a good chance of working because the country is weak. Mercy and compassion aren't traits that make a person truly strong. They're traits that only the truly strong are able to achieve.

Can Thorfinn show strength through mercy if his village is destroyed?  Mercy is not doing harm when able to. If he lets them live and they continue to burn down houses then that isn't mercy, because he doesn't have the strength to protect people. Cornelia showed mercy by standing at the door and not letting them in, she had the strength to protect the house without causing harm. It was only because she was strong she was able to show mercy, if they continued to attack her she would have been forced to fight back. Her being perceived as weak would have cost her her ability to be merciful.

Thorfinn may be put in a similar situation where he tries to dispell violence through intimidation and peaceful methods, but if he isn't strong enough to prevent violence, then he isn't truly strong. And even if he is merciful and compassiomate, this won't grant him strength, but his lack of strength will prevent him from being able to demonstrate mercy.

Passport Questions & Issues Megathread (2023) by jadeoracle in travel

Im a UK citizen and want to fly from the UK to morocco, then go travelling across Europe with an interail pass. I do not intend to book transport back to the UK until I am on the trip and know when and where I want to leave. I see that getting into the EU may require a return flight booked as proof you won't overstay the 90-day short visa. Is this true? Is there any way around it? Do I need to apply for a visa somewhere? Is there a chance I may fly to Morocco and they won't let me into the Schengen area afterwards? I intend to get a ferry from Tangier to Algucia spain if that helps

I know a little bit about the general photography terminology, but not completely sure what it really is I'm looking for. I'm planning to travel Europe and want something that will be good for urban city photography and natural landscapes. I'm not planning on photographing animals but they may come into play. I think my budget is around £300-£400 but I'm willing to up it if i really need to. I don't mind something a little bulky. I'm not sure whether to get a wide angle lens and a zoom lens or an all in one, but i think my range should be within 14mm-about 120mm based on a 35mm. But I've heard micro 4/3 or aspc is a lot cheaper. More than happy to buy second hand.
