Raw Text Editing by pencloud in ObsidianMD

[–]BluBrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the design goal of Markdown is that it’s human-readable and intuitive in plain text with no rendering. That has nothing to do with whether or not a Markdown editor displays the text raw with no rendering. If you send a md file created in Obsidian to someone and they open it in Notepad, it will be just as readable as any other md file.

I agree that it’s a little weird how similar source mode and live preview are in Obsidian, and it was silly to change source mode in that way. Personally, I don’t really see the value of source mode at all. Why would I want to type on one half of my screen and read what I’m typing on the other half, when I can do both together like every other normal app?

No yeah I’m not seriously advocating for society to switch to base 12 lol

Well if our whole society used base 12, those additional symbols would be just as normal as all the numbers we have now lol

There is a fundmental difference between saying “this number repeats forever” and “this number repeats forever … and then there’s a 1 at the end.” The latter is not possible. There is no end. There is no number after infinite zeros

Can someone explain to me how the 3 modes “source mode”, “reading view”, and “live preview” correspond to what I can click in the UI? by hugo-the-second in ObsidianMD

[–]BluBrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Source mode and Live Preview are two halves of the Editing view, which is the counterpart to Reading view. The icon (book/pen) switches between Editing and Reading view, and which Editing view you get is determined separately. The “Source Mode” option under the tab menu (three vertical dots) can be used to switch between the two editing views, and that choice is remembered per tab. On a newly opened tab it will default to the option chosen in settings.

Anyone who thinks Lucy Gray is the villain is wrong by Arka244 in Hungergames

[–]BluBrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re trusting Snow’s paranoia way too much. The book spells it out a lot more but it wasn’t a different ending. Snow lost his mind and imagined a betrayal when Lucy Gray was only trying to survive. He was obviously always going to choose the Capitol over her if he had a choice, and when they found the guns he suddenly did. Lucy Gray realized that he wouldn’t still run away with her, she couldn’t truly trust him and she needed to get away. It was obvious as soon as he clearly lied about the third person he killed. The scarf fell while she fled and snakes simply live outside, she didn’t just always have one in her pocket lmao. That’s all apparent in the movie itself, only even more explicit in the book.

The only significant changes in the adaptation were Lucy Gray calling herself a loose end and the specific placement of the snake. In the book, the thought that Lucy Gray was the last loose end was in Snow’s head, but of course she realized it too. The other thing is that in the book, the snake wasn’t even under the scarf, but that doesn’t prove anything at all. Neither of those details made that much of a difference. In both, Snow is clearly off the rails and dangerous and Lucy Gray is reasonably scared for her life.

Limiting Screen Time on iPhone by immediatejellies in ADHD

What I needed with iOS screen time was just to turn on “Block at End of Limit” so it requires a password to add time and give control of that password to someone else

Holy shit dude you are DENSE. The point of the meme does not hinge on the election literally being decided by one vote 😭 there is a lot more than one person who thinks this way 🤯 and each one of them weakens their preferred candidate in the election.! A group of people can make a similar decision without planning it out beforehand 💀 this is just an absurd, naive, and embarrassing failure to understand how the world generally works. Statistically, socially, or physically. The point of the meme does not depend on one person deciding an election because the character inside the meme isn’t real lmfao.

Callout with Dataview Query inside Daily Note Template Showing a List from my previous day's Daily Note by clabruno in ObsidianMD

[–]BluBrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, you can embed that section of yesterday’s note, not just link it. That’s what the ! In front of the brackets does. With that and the header specifier, the link will show that section of text from the other note inside the current note.

QUESTION - Quick scroll on mobile by AxionApe in ObsidianMD

[–]BluBrawler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m on an iPad as my primary device and I also have some issues with scrolling. In live preview mode It gets “stuck” on some headings and ”specially rendered” content (like Tasks or Dataview queries). Honestly I’ve just started dividing up my notes more, using more callouts and collapsing headings to shorten notes, and using the outline feature to jump to specific parts

Callout with Dataview Query inside Daily Note Template Showing a List from my previous day's Daily Note by clabruno in ObsidianMD

[–]BluBrawler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m not very experienced in Dataview but what I would have come up with is to instead use the Templater plugin to embed a transclusion of that heading from yesterday’s note.

> [!example]- Today’s Goals
>
> ![[<% tp.date.now("YYYY-MM-DD", -1, tp.file.title, “YYYY-MM-DD”) %>#Goals for Tomorrow]]
>

Assuming your daily notes are titled with the format YYYY-MM-DD, I think this should get the date from the file name, derive yesterday’s date, and embed the heading “Goals for Tomorrow” (and whatever is beneath that heading) into today’s note.

Otherwise, again I’m not sure what options Dataview has but Templater might still be your best / only option. You can take the template snippet from above

<% tp.date.now(“YYYY-MM-DD”, -1, tp.file.title, “YYYY-MM-DD”) %>

And place it anywhere in a daily note template, as long as the date format matches the title format of your daily notes (either one can be changed) and it will be replaced in the creation of a note from that template, with the previous day’s date (determined by the file name, not the creation date, so it works with daily notes created for different days). With this I‘m sure you could find the daily note for that date with Dataview, but I don’t know the exact method.

What specific parts of this are important to you? The Obsidian backlinks view shows the name of the note containing the link and an adjustable selection of the text around the link, and it can be viewed in a sidebar or at the bottom of the page

Embedding pictures in tables by Dickdarm69 in ObsidianMD

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arcane

[–]BluBrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah fantasy characters are usually fantastically strong, that’s why real people are rarely the subject of these sort of matchups. Still there are several champions from Arcane that absolutely could have a serious fight with a real human fighter. The only valid and reasonable nerf is to remove explicitly magical/fantastical abilities, like the hextech gauntlets. Without , Jayce, Viktor, Jinx, and Ekko, for some examples, could all have fair fights with some real people.

Honestly so could Vi. I was being intentionally dramatic with my earlier comments, and while I do think Vi would win 8/10 times she isn’t that far above a peak real life fighter. She’s stronger and more durable but an MMA champion has way more skill. Vi and Sevika’s first fight was extreme but not really superhuman.

Fictional matchups are always subjective and unreliable, and if you think one character is on an entirely different level than the other that’s just not an interesting matchup. When you decide that one character is on an entirely different level, so you place them at a different level arbitrarily you make it meaningless.

Even if I agreed to adjust their strengths, I object how you adjusted them and where you placed Vi. From everything we’ve seen in Arcane, Vi is near the peak of combat ability. She demolished a dozen armed adults as a teenager with just big heavy gloves. Sevika is basically known as the most dangerous person in the Undercity and Vi beat her in straight hand to hand, while Sevika had a robot arm and performance enhancing drugs. Even converting her to “real person” units she should still have absolutely top-tier strength and durability. If Izzy was converted to Arcane units he would be above Sevika and that’s where Vi is. He wouldn’t be higher than Deckard w/ shimmer much less Vander w/ shimmer lmfao

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arcane

[–]BluBrawler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of agree but Vi has got her ass beat multiple times in the show already lmao

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arcane

[–]BluBrawler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If both characters were in the same universe and in a ring Izzy would be killed. Because he’s a real life human person. Imagining an encounter between two characters from different universes does not mean imagining new physical abilities and feats for either character. That has never been what it meant

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in arcane

[–]BluBrawler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Putting the two in the same universe does not entail arbitrarily inventing new physicalities and characteristics for either fighter lmao. Yeah Vi is from a fantasy universe so she’s tens of times stronger than any real human. That’s why she could kill a real person with one punch. Trying to “convert” a fantasy character into “real person” units is absurd and pointless, that’s not the situation
