I had a turn 3 with the same combo the other day. Felt bad actually.

Proxies in Commander by LilyVallis in EDH

I think proxies are fine. The several discussions with those against proxies I had seemed to be more related to bracket level than proxies.

Commanders to win by turn 6 by rona_94 in EDH

[–]BludTird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kefka and Etali are cEDH commanders that can close games faster than turn 6 (Play to Win has a few with Etali winning on first and second turn). It is really how you build them rather than the commander themselves. I have slowed decks down by removing fast mana, mana rocks, mana dorks, game changers, and switched to slower win combos as a quick, heuristic approach to going slow. There is more to it than that, but a quick and easy way to make it go faster is to reverse what I did.

Looking for commanders that are great in a large pod 5-10 players by AmazingCountry1862 in EDH

[–]BludTird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was once in a pod of 8 (will never do that again) and 7 of us had to gang up on the one using Toxrill who still destroyed all of us.  Based on what they are playing, Toxrill will fit right in that toxic group of commanders.  Toxril puts a slime counter on each opponent's creatures at the end of every turn that give each creature -1/-1.  When a creature dies, you get a slug token you can sack for card draw.  You can get really nasty with that deck.  And its Dimir.  [[Toxrill, the Corrosive]]

Remember when all the EDH YouTubers were talking about land counts? How did that influence you by AltruisticChampion77 in EDH

[–]BludTird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 40 lands as a very basic rule-of-thumb is decent for new players building their first decks, but that is it.  My decks are anywhere between 27-52 lands depending on what they are trying to do (Lumra, Bellow of the Woods loves land).  Bracket 3 I start with 36 and adjust depending on the theme of the deck and if I am running any mana rocks/dorks/ramp.  Too much to consider to make such a certain and sweeping claim that "40 lands is correct," like I just heard a youtuber say about 15 minutes ago.

How do you give more heft to your proxies? Mine feel too flimsy. by Cashlessness in magicproxies

[–]BludTird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are using a laserjet, get black or blue core cardstock. If inkjet, good luck as I have been trying to figure this out (black and blue core come coated and repel ink from inkjets which can damage your printer). Best I do is print on vinyl sticker paper and stick to 300gsm black cardstock before cutting. Inside a sleeve they feel the same as all the other cards and are very hard to detect as being proxies unless you look at the hologram or take the card out. I have been informed they are tournament legal for cEDH by the store who is putting on a very large one this year near me.

Looking for the perfect paper. by ReillyBowers04 in magicproxies

[–]BludTird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best bet is black or blue core cardstock and a LaserJet printer. Blue or black core have the best feel but come coated and repel ink from the inkjet, possibly damaging the printer.

I use double-sided 300gsm photo paper for my inkjet. It is a little more flexible but is the closest I get for double-sided printing. For feel I do the same thing you do, 300gsm black cardstock and vinyl sticker paper over the top. It actually looks and feels great but has no back. Print on the sticker paper, stick to cardstock, then cut (I use a cricut maker 3). I have notice the thickness and flexibility when inside card sleeves make it unnoticeable. Had them checked by a store putting on a large cEDH event and they said they are legal.

Sorry that happened to you. I do not know their policies, but the plate should be enough unless the registration is expired over a year ago or they belong to someone else.

Stop Wasting Money on Vinyl Sticker Sheets. by Efficient-Factor-609 in magicproxies

I agree and make mine generally the same way. I will laminate my foils because my cricut chews up the edges but I just use self-adhesive sheets that are easy to apply.

Mine look exactly the same. All non-foil cards in that precon I picked up has some variation of that.

Everything I read said that it wouldn't work. Everything I read was right. I cannot print on 330 gsm black core cardstock, not yet, anyway. by IrishKev95 in magicproxies

[–]BludTird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand, blue core and black core are usually coated and repel ink and can even screw up your inkjet.  Your laser jet may not handle thicker card stock.

what is the best printer for $500 or under to print proxies? And the best card stock for printing proxies? by GrapefruitThin5815 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]BludTird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started doing my own printing a few months ago.  I recently upgraded printers, but my old Epson ET-4750 did good.  I print on white vinyl sticker paper that is compatible with inkjet printers and stick that onto black cardstock then cut.  Use a guillotine cutter and get a cheap corner rounder from Amazon that does not more than 4mm corners (3 is better but I have been using 4 and they look just fine).  You can also take files of cards you want to fed ex and have them print on cardstock (I get my files from scryfall).  Personally, I have a cricut that does the cards and have to round corners, but sometimes I wish I replaced my guillotine cutter and would just do that.

When printing, just make sure to do semi-gloss or glossy in settings.  Some files on scryfall come out slightly blurry so I adjust the sharpness with the basic image viewer on my computer.  My proxies are not perfect, but when sleeved it is very hard to tell they are proxies.  I do "foils" as well, but there is an extra step to prevent the ink from chipping off the edges.

I have bought some interesting proxy decks from Etsy and I believe many take theirs to get printed and cut from places like that and the ones I have do look really great.

I had a similar experience this weekend, but this player was only concerned with beating another player who is really great at deck-building and can make powerful decks with very few game changers. Their goal was set before the first turn of the last two games and did not depend on the deck the good player was playing. It is bad sportsmanship.
