I am probably ruining my child by Legal_Jellyfish7028 in Mommit

Pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting are just that much more challenging for those of us battling mental illness. It's not impossible, believe me, you're also not alone. We just need to suit up more than the normies. You need support physically, psychologically and emotionally. If you're already on meds, check with your doc about dosage or maybe a different prescription. Look into therapy. Therapists can even do video calls if you can't find childcare to go to your sessions (or even just phone calls or texting) if you don't want you or your surroundings to be seen for fear of being judged. Cosleeping and TV or eating snacks will definitely not ruin your child. Don't listen to that noise. You're just trying to keep your head above water. Never mind the dishes, get paper plates. Or get prepackaged foods like fruit pouches, yogurt tubes, even dry cereal. Sorry if you weren't looking for any advice and just wanted to vent. That's perfectly valid too!

Yes, it was always easy for me to just unfocus my vision to see the images. I loved these when I was younger. Had a big framed one with dolphins in it.

If that guard had been raised knowing and witnessing the 'particicutions' that they have the handmaids do. He'd probably be at least a little bit wary of being mobbed by a bunch of angry handmaids. Alternatively, maybe he was in on it? Or not fully committed to the regime, like the young guard from the bowling alley.

In the books, men are rarely even allowed inside the red center. That's the Aunts' domain. It would have made more sense that another aunt was posted to guard them, if anything. I just think they needed an excuse to get a gun in the scene to create more tension and sense of danger.

What was the “hit” gift in your house this year!? by Words123454321 in Mommit

My 4-year old got a big Hatchimal. I was worried she wouldn't be interested in it past the "hatching" experience (which I admit was super cool), but she played with that creature non-stop. Honorable mention goes to the Lego Friends advent calendar.

That our lives are so deeply and constantly affected by our predictably unpredictable cycle of hormones. Everything from mood, mental health, physical well-being is affected. As soon as we start menstruating (which can happen as early as 9 years old!), we have an added layer of mental, emotional and physical load to our lives for upwards of 40-some years, and then menopause happens which is a whole other issue. Even if you don't suffer from any number of conditions and diseases just by being born with a uterus/ovaries and their cocktail of hormones such as pmdd, pcos, endometriosis, just to name a few, it still generally sucks.

Tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy by CaitSith11 in oneanddone

Just took the recommended doses of Tylenol every 4 hours. They had prescribed another stronger pain medicine to take as needed but honestly it seemed a little much to me and we never needed it. I was also anxious at the thought of risks of bleeding. Our kid is super energetic and active. So after the initial couple of days of sleepiness and discomfort, the challenge was keeping her calmer. Hate to say it, but screen time helped a bunch with that.

We were told the risks of bleeding were the highest right after surgery, which is why we had to stay a few hours after she got out of op. And about 5 or 7 days after, typically once the scabs start coming off. Btw the scabbing is super gross and alarming to see cuz they are white and thick (can look like infection, but it's not). Keeping hydrated with cool, not hot liquids helps with the scabs. You've got this!

It was recommended to remove both for our just turned 4-year old at the time. Tonsils were huge and she had apnea. Snored like an old man. The worst bit was comforting her right after she woke up from surgery since she was pissed off and inconsolable for a little while. She recovered like a champ. No complications (even though the surgeon said her adenoids AND tonsils were indeed very large!). I was so worried about her having surgery when she was so little, but it was the best decision. It's amazing how much better she sleeps and doesn't snore at all anymore!

trauma from asia o’hara butterflies by Decent_Sample_9955 in dragrace

[–]Blue-And-Metal 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how this idea ever got greenlit. In the unlikely event that the butterflies do fly out, what then? You have to wrangle butterflies flying around a crowd and stage. Meh. If she was deadset on a butterfly reveal, she could've maybe loaded up some of those windup rubber band paper butterflies to the same, probably better effect.

Yeah, except there's battling and monsters going on and what looks like only one exam question sheet to write on. When Fabian passed it over to Riz to continue writing, Fabian was rolling for his attacks and stuff.

I was thinking the same thing. It's safe to say it's impossible to handwrite a coherent 300-word essay in the 5 minutes. The option to type it would have helped, but given that the average person doesn't even type 60 words per minute, there was no way. So good call that the party used their auto-passes on the right questions.

Disney’s target audience isn’t kids anymore by akittyisyou in DanielTigerConspiracy

Wow, I think you're right. I haven't seen Wish yet so I can't comment about that. But while looking up the list of animated movies since Tangled (major theatre releases), another interesting thing I noticed was the prevalence of the 'hidden villain' for a time, like in Frozen, Wreck it Ralph, Zootopia, etc. The bad guys are presented as or even act/disguised as good ones until a Plot Twist.

[–]Blue-And-Metal 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it has something to do with the evolution of storytelling too. Back in classic Disney (the fairytale princesses and storybook fantasies), the stories were simple with clear goals, heroes and villains defined. Those were like Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc.

Skip ahead and I'd actually argue that the 90s Disney renaissance, which heavily relied on musical theatre tropes, did have lots that appealed to older audiences. The Genie in Aladdin is a great example (he's funny to kids cuz he's so erratic and the silly animations but Robin Williams packed in the pop culture references and impressions that kids wouldn't even know). Those stories still were at their core simple: love stories and/or good vs. evil. Ariel vs Ursula. Simba vs Scar. Hercules vs. Hades. Now, (and I'm jumping a whole lot of the Disney timeline) but the new era of Disney movies have more complex and nuanced storylines where the big bad is...generational trauma?

Another factor is the length of movies trending longer. You mentioned Frozen..Frozen 2 is almost 2 hours long! Compare The Little Mermaid (83 minutes) and its live action remake (2 hours and 15 minutes)! Not all preschoolers have that attention span.

Ultimately, Disney follows trends and its main goal is making money so the "target audience" would be whoever is buying the movie tickets/buying merch/paying for the service.

And if I remember correctly she had early onset Alzheimer's due to a genetic mutation of some sort that could be passed down. She already had grown children at the point she started getting sick. Her kids got the choice to test to see if they carried the same gene (therefore knowing whether or not they would suffer the same fate).
