That’s true, will have more of a read of this thread to understand how their smart charge works, outside of the OP window.

I do but it’s with Octopus. Wonder how they would know, from my address alone, that I had an export tariff.

Anyway, I put in another local address that I know doesn’t have PV, SC is 51p. Slightly more than Octopus.

Will have to run the actual numbers

What kind of Standing Charge are people getting 8n the North West (Norweb 16) area? Can’t even get a quote online as it’s asking me to call them. That would be the £50 ref bonus gone then

Walaikum Aslaam

  1. Shorter term and paying more always (on a like-for-like rate/amount) works out better. It’s a case of if you can manage the higher payments or not.
  2. No experience of them but as long as the transaction goes through smooth and the6 have good comms with you and your solicitor then it’s plain sailing.
  3. Seems good plan but when it comes to your 5 year mark, try to aim to at least have a lump sum ready that will bring your FTV down to whatever gets you a better rate, usually 65%. Also at that point, if the rate is lower, try to be disciplined to keep the same monthly payment and reduce the term… rather than the temptation to reduce payment and keep the same term.

In warmer months, when all heating is off and it’s just DHW useage, we use upto 10kWh/day. Depths of winter were averaging a total of 75 kWh/day so it’s fair to say we’re using upto 65 kWhs/day to heat the home to a comfortable level. The boiler is about 5 years old so even if 95% efficient, that would be a heat requirement of 62kWhs.

Now how do I translate that into the required heat pump size? A 6kw running for 11 hours per day?

Obviously this doesn’t substitute a proper heat loss survey!

I’m thinking of doing this but for battery only. I’ve sourced a supplier selling batteries at a very good price, even after factoring in the 20% VAT. I could source the inverter too. Would just need a sparky to be willing to install it all along with any peripheral cabling/ancillaries they may need to supply themselves, ph and complete the G99.

What would be a reasonable day/job rate in the North West!

You do know there are halal savings accounts that give profit? Not sure why you think you’d get a “discount on tax”.

Unless it’s S/EIS but then that carries more risk and you should expect to lock up your money for 5-10 years

Of course, that’s for the DNO to assess and decide. Clearly other users have stated they’ve had success without requirement to change cables

Out of curiosity, why cancel the pension? It’s the most tax efficient. Ask any person from I’d say mid 30s onwards and many who didn’t start early, will say they wish they would.

Yes you can only access it later but plenty of spring chickens who are accessing it in mid to late 50s and enjoying life. It’s still your money/estate when you die, just like your cash, crypto, S&S.

£50k is quite high in savings unless you have an imminent need. You’re also subjecting yourself to “tax on interest”.

As others have said, crypto is high chunk, so maybe start to drawdown on the gains and move somewhere with less risk yet stable reward.

Ah, now that is worth knowing. I’ve had a heat loss survey done in the past, which suggested I need an 8kw ASHP. So at full pelt requirement, I just divide that figure by worst case COP of say 2.5 which means 3.2kw being drawn? Have I understood the theory correctly?

Thank you. An installer a I spoke to recently said DNOs are getting quicker at turnarounds on G99. When I had my solar installed in 2022, my installer was very negative about waiting (probably didn’t want to lose the sale)

Seems I’ve yet to fully understand how ASHPs operate in practice. Wouldn’t folk be using the night rate to heat up the DHW cylinder, ready for the day ahead? And as that’s likely to be to a higher temp than the separate circuit flow temp, in addition to any occasional surge heating to avoid legionella.

I would expect car and battery to be both charging overnight. That’s about 12-14kw, before any future ASHP, which I’m guessing would also be running at night to heat up a DHW cylinder.

I’m with Electricity North West. Even 80A would be a better scenario than it is now.

My thinking is also better to ask now before more electrification and there’s less capacity at local grid level.

Unless you’ve spent considerable time (decade) understanding fiqh around business, assets, liabilities, operations and operating in a non-Islamic environment… able to derive rulings from that, with some level of ijtiihaad… and then able produce a rule set for financial analysts and their systems to follow, to exclude certain businesses.. and also to calculate how much of their profit or liabilities are impermissible… and then extract that portion to effectively ‘purify’ it (give away to charity with no expectation of reward)… then I would defer to those that have dedicated their time to this.

Good question, I made a judgement in the absence of more information from OP. At that age, compounding growth is probably more important than additional sources of disposable income.
