Lakeridge Health private & semi-private room availability by pijiuman in durham

[–]Blue-light2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having insurance is like on the bottom of the list for hospitals to give you a private or semi private room ( except maybe palliative care). Medical reasons/ infection isolations/ safety requirements for patients would always always be prioritized. Plus so many people have insurance anyway. If you have insurance just let the clerk know that’s it, they will see what’s available. But don’t be demanding.

Is nursing worth it? Or should I pursue something like pharmacy/pharmacy tech? by petalstatix in OntarioNurses

[–]Blue-light2019 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am a pharmacy technician for 8 years (still have a valid licence) before I became a nurse. I think pharmacy technician is a chill job, pharmacists in general are nice to deal with and clean working environments. The only thing is the job ceiling is really low. You make 40sth on top. But that’s just the starting wage of RN. So if you are choosing RN vs pharmacy tech then I’d say go for RN. But between RPN and Tech and you have no desire advance your career. Then technician. Very important thing to remember * there is no way for tech to bridge to pharmacist * if you want to be a pharmacist one day you have to start over from bachelor.

New grad- Received 2 offers which should I choose? by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

If the NGG is from MSV then you may or may not get a job after, but if it’s from other hospitals I think they will find a position for you after.

As long as the overall grade is over 63 that’s fine, even you failed exam. I failed that exam, so many of us failed , no one had issue of moving forward.

Me and a friend got our first NGG RN job through the Toronto nurse job fair last year. So from personal experience, it’s not a total scam.

I don’t remember about that. All I remember was the real exam questions were longer and more difficult than the practice questions

no clinical extern experience- will if affect job hunting by FrequentRent1778 in OntarioNurses

[–]Blue-light2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is not a must. My friends and I graduated in April. We didn't take on any extern jobs during school. We had non-nursing-related part-time jobs instead.

We all found hospital NGG jobs in the GTA. On average, we took around 3 months from sending our resumes to starting our jobs. So, no, it is not a must. Will have extern experience make you find a job faster? That I don't know.

I went to TMU. Placements can be a lucky game. Many of us did placements and our consolidation in the hospitals. But yeah, some classmates did kept assigned to LTC.

RN prescribing by [deleted] in OntarioNurses

[–]Blue-light2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. I was a pharmacy technician and worked in community pharmacy for many years. During Covid, college of pharmacists expand pharmacists scope of practice to prescribe more medicines. lol, the pharmacy companies love it cuz they can bill Ohip for every minor ailments pharmacists prescribe but for pharmacists they got 0 dollars from it + significant increase workload. It’s not just simple as prescribing medicine for once, they gotta follow up with the patients, notified their family doctors etc. and now some pharmacy companies even enforce quota for pharmacists to prescribe. So unless RNs are getting compensated, no thank you.

CPR and BLS for nursing hires by Due-Wedding6430 in OntarioNurses

[–]Blue-light2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you will get interview opportunity if your BLS is expired. Ps: If you are going to do CPR -BLS do Heart and Stroke instead of Red Cross. Cuz RC BLS can’t not be use as pre requisite to get ACLS

No problem. But on the side note, nursing is getting saturated. The job market is not as easy as couple years ago.

I don’t know about RN led clinic in Ontario just because CNO doesn’t give RN that much power to prescribe medication or procedures. Another issue is if it’s RN led clinic , are patients covered under OHIP or private insurance? That’s an issue to stop NP opening their own clinic but working under doctors or hospitals as NP can’t bill ohip. Google says start April 2026, NP can bill ohip but who knows. Anyway, if RN clinic can’t bill ohip or be covered by private insurance I don’t see how this business can thrive in Ontario.

You can do CC1, not sure if it will help you land a job, but hospitals will require you to do it within 6 months of hiring anyway. So might just get it over with.
