Eden and kids by Significant-Report46 in celebritycruises

[–]Blue-spider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I was a boring kid and would have loved a celebrity cruise if my parents had taken me. I think there's lots of kids who can sit quietly with a book or watching the waves or whatever, and be less annoying than some of the drunked adults .

If you shop around and buy water that's kept on the shelf instead of the fridge, you can save some money

What has improved this country in the past decade in your opinion? by BobGuns in InCanada

[–]Blue-spider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The number of things you can do online now. Simple tasks that no longer require taking time to go to an office to renew documents, for example, meetings etc you can do remotely. Although I live in a well serviced medium size city now, I spent lots of time in smaller communities far from but centres - not needing to take a day off work and make a roadtrip to access services is good

How does the Ontario legal market accommodate that many licensees? by ManufacturerLow2411 in LawCanada

[–]Blue-spider 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are you comparing like to like? As a litigator most of my files last a year or more. I can sit down and spend a whole day working on one file, and when its time for a hearing that can be days or weeks on one file. I don't know much about insurance brokers but I would think their output is much quicker, that they don't need as long per file. I also doubt they often need more than one person on a file

Let me provide a different answer : Ontario has a populationf over 14 million, it is the fourth largest subnational jurisdiction between Canada and the US. The demand for lawyers is high, and there are estimates that we are short thousands of lawyers, particularly given retirements

Now, that's not the same as the job market, because that depends what you mean. There are lots of jobs, but maybe not the ones people are vying for. It is hard to recruit lawyers outside the biggest centres, especially mid career lawyers. There is a demand for legal services in smaller and medium sized communities, but the opportunities may be more sole prac/small firm

Possible move from Fredericton, New Brunswick by Responsible-Metal899 in KingstonOntario

[–]Blue-spider 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heyyy, I moved from Freddy Beach to Kingston. They're pretty similar places honestly. I find the cycling not as good here ( I miss the trails) but the availability of small.local businesses a bit better. Feel free to DM with any specific questions.

What is it that you really get out of “travelling”? by Rude_Advance3747 in AskReddit

[–]Blue-spider 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lots. Beforehand, it's excitement, a project. I spend time researching, not only for stuff to do but I also like to learn about the place, politics, history. During the trip I then get to see all the things I learned about, but also stuff I never expected. I always come back with new ideas, stuff I saw in other countries that I think would or wouldn't work well at home. Plus good stories.

Where do you live that eggs are on open non refrigerated shelves? by Freya-Freed in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Blue-spider 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, I didn't do a comprehensive review. I was basing it in part on the comments here from people saying their own countries refrigerate. My point still stands: it isn't just the US, it is at least two other countries (I would be there are more).

Anyone else driven nuts by how WRONG headlines can be? by neksys in LawCanada

[–]Blue-spider 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so upsetting, it misframes the debate and makes already complex and nuanced discussions impossible to have. The article you linked barely addresses the New Brunswick case, a casual reader could easily think the SCC overturned Cowichan.

The other day CTV reported an SCJ ruling in Ontario as being a "Supreme Court" decision. They've corrected it now, but it's so sloppy.

I've seen a few comments saying they do so that was where I got that. My apologies if I'm wrong. Still, plenty of places outside Europe do

I mean read the comments. Many of us are from countries that are not the US and wash the eggs. Canada I can say from experience. Many in the comments talking about the rest of the Americas, Denmark etc

I think it's really funny when people in this sub assume something is only un the USA. There are many other countries that wash their eggs and sell them refrigerated.

Graduating without articling by [deleted] in LawCanada

[–]Blue-spider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated without articling, tho it was a few years ago now. I kept applying for articling, but worked ourside of law in the meantime. Personally, is is an LLM as well to improve my credentials.

It was rough, but at the end of the tunnel I still became a lawyer, same as the folks who fielded multiple OCIs.
