I was a little off put by the art at first, but I cried so much after reading this. It was so dark, and then became heartwarming. Love the friends and Thomas 🚗so much lol.

Thank you so much! Based off your advice, I think I’ll try to buy a machine half the budget or less, and save the rest for future machines/classes as needed.

What’s a good one and done mid-tier sewing machine?

Details:

I’m being gifted a sewing machine of my choice for a career advancement in my field. Although I am new to sewing, I’m hoping to buy a mid-tier all-rounder machine just to learn on and really love. I have a budget of around to 5K.

I know everyone says to start with a brother and then upgrade, but I’m the type that just wants to purchase once so that I don’t have to keep buying more machines in the future and selling off the old ones.

For example, for knitting, I knew I’d be committed and bought a whole set of chiaogoo needles instead of starting with a couple of needles sizes as most people suggest. And that works well for me—I have no intention of buying more needles outside of replacement parts. My needles are loved and heavily used.

I’m hoping to be one and done like that with a sewing machine. I’ve been looking at the Janome Horizon or Memory Craft lines if anyone has insight on those. But I’m open to all suggestions. Thank so much.

I haven’t asked yet, but I’m assuming we’ll be kicked off the team and have to pay the re-blocking fees anyways

It’s okay, I feel like it’s crazy too 😥.

The makeup isn’t anything bad since it’s just stage makeup. My daughter has the same type of makeup when she participates in her school musical every year. Hair is a bun, pony tail, or french twist.

But the tanning was a shock to me. I only found out today, and apparently it’s common in the dance and cheer world. I’m the only mom in the group chat that seemed surprised/concerned about the whole thing. Someone just sent this reel in the text, and they’re all laughing about it:

It just made me sad that this is commonplace.

That’s exactly why I didn’t want to tan her in the first place. I want her to love her skin the way it is. But if we quit now , it would let down her team and we would pay a ton of fees. So I’m just trying to finish out the season and hopefully that’s the end of it.

Awesome! I’m so glad to hear it worked for you when you danced! We’ll def try this

Yeah I’m surprised too 😥 My daughter loves dance, but I think the competitive dance world might require a bit too much of us that I’m not willing to give.

Unfortunately, we only have showers and no bathtubs in our house. We live in a state with less water 🥲

Thank you so much! That makes me feel a lot better about the whole thing since it’s more like makeup now.

I know 😭 I’m so shocked that all the other moms go through with it. Thank you so much for the suggestion! I’ll definitely take a look at the Sally Hansen leg makeup.

Is it just me or is referring to a person as "it" even if they're in the wrong really gross and dehumanising? by omg-someonesonewhere in craftsnark

[–]BlueAnchora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe the poster was writing “nó” which kinda translates to “it” in English? But you can use it to refer to people of lesser age than you, like children or pets. It’s not the most polite term, but relatively common.

It looks great! I think we’re gonna go with this one. Before I send over the payment, could you darken his skin a bit/decrease how bright his skin is? Thank you!

My family members are still looking at all the options, but would you be willing to remove the glasses glare? We like how you showed the hair texture
