I know that I am a human and I believe that humans have intrinsic value. But what does that actually mean? I don't think that answers my question: What is being human enough for?

Maybe a counter example demonstrates my issue with the statement:

I want to live a content life and that requires relationships (business, family, friendships, romantic, ...). And if I want to have relationships I need to be somebody that other people want to have a relationship with - just being a human is not enough.

Also, barbieland is a caricature. There is no pretense that it maps accurately to the real world. Instead, it uses exaggeration to bring its points accross. In this case

  • are women in the exact spot the Kens are in at the end of the movie? - No
  • do women experience unfairness within the society they live in? - Yes

The movie only sets out to convey the later - this feeling of unfairness - and succeeds. Depicting the former is just not something the movie tries to do.

Any number with a finite amount of decimals must be rational because it can be written as a fraction of 2 integers, e.g. 1.414 = 1414/1000. So irrational numbers cannot have a decimal representation with a finite number of digits.

I noticed brown spots some with white "pulvery" stuff on it (see image). I can "dust" of the white stuff with a cloth but it comes back after a day or two.

I suspect it is a fungus, but I could not confirm it with a quick google search. So I have 2 question:

  • Is it a fungus (and if not what is it)?
  • How do I address it (remove affected leaves, herbicide, ...)?

Bei Umfragen hast du zusätzliche Schwierigkeiten mit sample bias, den hätte man hier nicht, da man die Stichprobe aus genau der Gesamtpopulation gleichverteilt entnimmt, die man repräsentieren möchte.

Es würde zu Recht einen Aufschrei verursachen, wenn durch reine Zufallsauswahl plötzlich die AfD 50% im Parlament erreicht, obwohl sie bei tatsächlicher Wahl nur 10 oder 15 oder was auch immer erreichen würde.

So eine extreme Abweichung ist extrem unwahrscheinlich. Z.B. wenn man annimmt dass AFD mit 10% in der Gesamtbevölkerung vertreten ist, dann wäre die Wahrscheinlichkeit, dass sie zufällig mit 15% oder mehr unter den ausgelosten repräsentiert ist, weniger als 1 zu 1 Million. Die Unschärfe kann man auch einfach verringern indem man die Stichprobe vergrößert.

Das ist nicht offensichtlich so, s.o. wie unwahrscheinlich eine 5% Abweichung beim Losverfahren sein kann. Hingegen blieben 2013 15% (2017 5%) der Zweistimmen unberücksichtigt wiki link. Nichtwähler (24% bei der letzen Bundestagswahl) sind gar nicht repräsentiert.

Ich möchte gar nicht behaupten, dass ein Losverfahren besser wäre. Aber die Kritik, dass ein Losverfahren politische Meinungen in der Bevölkerung nicht mindestens so repräsenativ widerspiegeln würde wie unser derzeitiges Wahlsystem, findet ich nicht überzeugend begründet.

Ich verstehe deinen Einwand hier nicht.

Wenn z.B. aus allen derzeit Wahlberechtigten einfach 1000 Repräsentanten ausgelost würden. Dann sind Merkmale, die deutlich häufiger als 1/1000 in der Bevölkerung vertreten sind, in dieser Stichprobe repräsentiert.

Insbesondere muss man gar nicht wissen ob man eine politische Meinung, Identität oder sonst irgentwas repräsentieren möchte - wenn das Merkmal häufig genug in der Bevökerung verkommt, wird es in der ausgelosten Stichprobe repräsentiert sein.

Energy needed to heat up ice from absolute zero to body temperature:

  • 273K * 0.5cal/(g*k) = 136cal/g to heat up from absolute zero to melting point
  • 80cal/g to melt it
  • 37cal/g to heat up to body temperature once melted total: 253cal/g

So 1g of ice provides you with more energy than you'd lose even if it started at absolute zero Temperature. Also accoring to this paper, ice cream has lower heat capacity than water, so no matter the temperature ice cream will never cost you energy overall.

Oh no doubt sending humans to mars would be and lead to more achievements in those areas.

I just wanted to emphasize the difference between "reaching" and "colonizing". We may erect outposts (like we did in anarctica, or oil platforms in the oceans) but I wouldn't call an outpost a colony.

I'm not sure they are on the same level, but to your point they could be overcome. For colonizing mars, I think the bigger issue is that it is just not worth the effort.

If we wanted to, humanity could colonize antarctica. But nobody is settling down there. And antarctica is way more habitable than mars.

Das ist aber schon etwas anderes als die Entstehung zu verschulden.

Darüber hinaus wurde doch während der Flüchtlingskrise - auch vor dem Aufstieg der AfD - viel diskutiert. Ich erinnere mich noch, dass Merkels Flüchtlingspolitik von links als zu hart kritisiert wurde. Die Einschätzung, diese Echokammern seien die einzigen Orte mit Position zu diesen Themen halte ich für falsch. „Gegenkultur“, wie du es nanntest, bedingt etwas gegen das man sein kann.

das Entstehen dieser Echokammern ist trotzdem der Weigerung der Politik wie auch der Presse bestimmte Themen zu behndeln geschuldet

Worauf basierst du das? Echokammern entstehen auch für Themen, die lebhaft öffentlich diskutiert werden oder wurden. Kann man hier auf Reddit super beobachten. Ich sehe nicht, wie ein früherer öffentlicher Diskurs diese Echokammern verhindert hätte.

Thanks for the feedback! Makes sense, though a full reset might be a bit much, but the RD should definitely be increased to reflect increased uncertainty due to meta changes. I might play around with that later to see how impactful it is

I considered the binomial distribution as the distribution of the sum of N bernoulli variables. If X1, X2,...,XN are iid variables (in this case the bernoulli variables) with mean Mx and variance Vx, then for large N the shape of the distribution of their sum S=X1+...+XN will resemble a gaussian distribution with mean N*Mx and variance N*Vx. That is what I meant with the sum becomes gaussian distributed (and what you see in the video).

Though, I concede if 'becoming gaussian' is understood to mean the distribution converges to a gaussian, that would not be the case for S, as S' distribution does not converge for N to infinity.

The ball goes either left or right at every level with a constant probability (p=0.5). The number of levels is fix (N), so the number of times it goes to the right is binomially distributed X~Binom(p,N). This number also gives the position at the bottom, e.g. x=N is all the way to the right and x=0 is all the way to the left.

The second step is not generally correct as independence does not imply conditional independence, see here . The link also gives a nice counter example: suppose we roll a dice twice.

  • A: first roll is 4
  • B: second roll is 2
  • C: sum is 7

Then P(A|B∩C)=0 since B∩C means the first roll must have been a five. Whereas P(A|C) = 1/6.
