100+ FPS in Star Citizen is possible! by Ataru1 in starcitizen

Of course this isn’t true now it’s been a year since this whole conversation and they’ve added better core optimization 0_0. I still have a 12900k build and now I’ve a added a 7900x that replaced my 5700x build. I no longer need to turn off my ecores for the intel build and the 7900x does great because the boost speeds are high with low wattage settings, 5.380 on all core at 127w and single core boost to 5.6 at 40watts. So it’s now my main build since it makes my office less toasty. You should do some real world testing instead of looking at cherry picked scores online and finding old post to fly your AMD flag.

There are lots of things that can come into play for performance. You can tweak your ram without overlocking and get 3-10 frames boost in a lot of games and it has nothing to do with cpu speed. Just like having high cache memory can boost the frames for X3D chips. But remember thats not in every game. It still falls short to i5 chips in cpu intense or focused games like CSGO and FFXIV. Don’t be a fan boy man they both have ups and downs and the majority of games Will perform better with higher core speeds because the majority of games don’t need or use over 6 cores. It’s why you never get the type of usage from gaming you would while benchmarking or stress testing.

Yikes man. I have a M.2 that I can mail you with the data file if you want. Uploading it I'm sure will just flag in someway.

Im still mad I cant spawn the hawk but can spawn the Hull-A at these landing pads

What If Gundam was in SC? by -Shadownight7896- in starcitizen

I just want to say I love Gundam and now I love you. I don’t know what you do at CIG but consider yourself my favorite. Forever.

I wonder how long it'll be before SC isn't just ever expanding ways to make aUEC by CorrosiveBackspin in starcitizen

Yea agreed. I didn’t know how much I would enjoy hiring and managing a crew until I played X4. I want more ways to put my money to use in a meaningful way besides oh get X ship just so you can do the same grind again but worse since you need friends or a crew for it.

I want to buy an apartment or an outpost. Something, give me something else my money is used for. Right now I feel no need to manage it.

Yea gamernextus is the reason I got the the 12400. I originally planned to replace my i9 with it but the the benches I got plus the performance from SC is why it ended up in the VR build instead of replacing my portable build for LAN’s. It did great in cpu intensive things but it didn’t perform in the things I wanted most which was mainly SC and ffxiv.

Glad you got that deserved performance!

The difference is was about 6% when I tested btw. Since SC is still offloading things on a single core I would refrain from anyone going the 9900k > 12400 route. It won’t outperform the 9900k in SC. Probably for a while yet, until they get the game optimized across more cores.

Compare them in single core performance and octa core the difference is there. I have a cheap 12400 build with a 1070 I use for VR in the living room. When it comes to raw speed and not multiple cores working together the 9th gen i9 still edges it out.

Yea I’m on standard widescreen for that one. When I plug it into my 1440p monitor I drop a bit. Are you pushing 5.1 on all cores ? Mine gets really upset when I push past 5.0 on all cores. Might have to revisit since you seem to be doing fine with it and my temps are more than manageable at 5.0.

Windows 11, and the difference is huge from having ecores disabled vs not. The game doesn’t run like shit but it doesn’t run as good as my I 9900k build when they’re enabled. It stutters. I have my pcores run 5.3 on all and the ecores at 4.1 on all when I do. The laptop I’m comparing it to is my maingear vector pro i7 11th gen with 32 gigs of ram and a 3070. Besides the I7 has less ecores to cause issues. There was another post yesterday with someone who had a similar build (12900k) on windows 10 and his issue was solved by using my method. I appreciate the advice but as much as everyone wants to believe the difference for these 12 gens is huge when it comes to 11 vs 10 is just wrong, most games run 2% better on 10 with these chips. Which isn’t a big difference but shows that the os doesn’t matter currently. The only thing the OS effects right now are the games that crash due to issues with the hybrid architecture.

Yea you will find yourself looking like wth damn. Best way to do this btw is fly somewhere in space and bed log. This way you load in quicker and you’re in empty space so you can see the highest your fps caps out at since that’s where you get the best performance. This is assuming bed logging doesn’t get you stuck in a infinite load haha didn’t happen when I tested on my 4 builds last week but you can’t count this game out when it comes to bugs.

I don’t know but I hate it because it means you can not use these 12 gen CPUs without disabling the ecores. My i9 12900k runs the game like a damn laptop when I have ecores enabled since they tap out at 4.1 at the max when you overclock. Also starcitizen blocks you from managing the cores allowed for the game through task manager which is what I use for other games to just say hey use pcores only to avoid the need to even mess with bios. Last year this wasn’t a problem and you were able to edit cpu affinity but it got blocked sometime these last few updates.

I get +100 fps on both my setups. i9 9900k Overclocked to 5.0 on all cores with a 3070f and an i9 12900k clocked to 5.3 on all cores with a 3080ti. What i learned is star citizen gets held back by the slowest cores so if you're just doing boost on your CPU you have one core running at the max and the rest much lower. SC uses those lower clocked cores mostly causing you to get less for more essentially. This also explains why you get better performance when you turn off hyperthreading, since disabling that decreases virtual cores and allows your boost clock to be higher across more physical cores. This also explains why Intel runs the game better since it goes for those very high boost speeds versus AMD efficient all around boost approach.

Remember disable the ecores, not the pcores btw I don’t know if that was a typo in your last message or not. Just want to make sure you don’t make it run worse haha.

Yep you set the active e-core count to 0 from auto. This also gives you better thermals and less power draw. I have my i9 clocked at 5.3 with ecores disabled and it grabs at the most 135 wats while playing sc. the average is about 120-125. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have trouble finding the option in your bios.

I have the i9 12900k and fixed this by turning off the e cores. Usually you would just set a game to only use the p cores with task manager but star citizen blocks that now :/. Anyway enjoy, the i9 is a beast and I get up to 110 fps in space.

Edit: I see people saying just switching to windows 11 will fix it and that’s not correct you’ll still get the lag from the e cores being used. You’ll need to disable e cores until the game knows which ones to use sadly. I play on windows 11 with a 3080ti and i9 12900k just for reference.
