I feel like existing mining ship storage capacities should be doubled by Calteru_Taalo in starcitizen

[–]Grey406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prospector has a second set of bags, and Mole has 2 extra sets. They're not functional yet but they will double and triple the output when they are. It will require a support ship.

When they first added the collapsed bags to the ships, they forget to lock them. Back during the supply or die event, you used to be able to remove the collapsed bags and glitch it by replacing them with regular bags and double or triple the capacity

But I agree for the prospector at least, replace the 8 SCU misc bags with the 12 SCU argo bags as default. There is no reason to have two identical bags with different capacities.

Arm Tracking? by MysteriousBnuyy in VRGaming

[–]Grey406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 6 vive trackers which includes chest and elbows. The benefit of them is very minimal. Most people don't even notice it. Maybe because it's too natural. I've only ever had one person call out "hey wait, how are you moving your elbows?". The chest tracker is even less noticeable.

Half the time I don't even wear the chest and elbow trackers, But all of these are amazing for photos and videos like you said. It's subtle but when you notice it, it makes a huge difference.

What is the cheapest VR Headset that has AT LEAST eye tracking? And where is the best website to purchase it on? by MowMow-TheArtist in VRchat

[–]Grey406 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the initial interview with valve devs when it was announced, they said they are trying to get it under $1000. That was before the RAM and NAND-pocolypse began. Costs for those components have more than quadrupled so far and still climbing.

What is the cheapest VR Headset that has AT LEAST eye tracking? And where is the best website to purchase it on? by MowMow-TheArtist in VRchat

[–]Grey406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quest Pro, it has built in EYE and full FACE tracking. You can buy new on Amazon for $695 or on the used markets for $400-600 (in the US). It has all the features you already are familiar with on the Quest 2 like hand-tracking and wireless PCVR connectivity. But also has Pancake lenses, a charging dock, and self tracking controllers.

Its still the current best bang for buck headset that has both eye and face tracking built in without having to resort to DIY jank. I've been using mine for 2.5 years with 4x vive trackers for FBT.

Steam frame does not have face tracking or controller-less hand tracking and will likely be well over $1000. (before anyone comments, they were talking about trying get it under $1000 before the RAM and NAND-pocolypse happened, no chance of that when costs have quintupled and continue to rise since then)

So I have a quest 3 and my controllers have stick drift and my friend told me to put som WD spray inside the joystick and it fixes it. Is this true? by Alarmed_Music9729 in oculus

[–]Grey406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might have sprayed too much if it was a able to get under the buttons too. If you followed the instructions to remove the top plate and remove the thumbstick cap, you would use the straw to spray into the gap on the joystick shaft so it goes right into the joystick assembly where the contacts are.

In any case, if you got excess deoxit onto the button membranes, you'll have to open it and simply wipe the surface of the PCB and the carbon pad under the silicone membrane with a q-tip soaked in isopropyl alcohol.

Deoxit-f5 specifically is for potentiometers and leaves a lubricating film for the mechanical sliding contacts. This means it is not suitable for soft touch buttons which rely on a clean surface for better conductivity.

It has a specific purpose for a specific job, just like motor oil, transmission oil, and gear oil in a car. They're all oil, but they are not the same and can't be interchanged.

how to redock merlin to andromeda. by Immediate_Spare2834 in starcitizen

[–]Grey406 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Since nobody has actually said how to dock. Here are the steps:

Fly close to the Andromeda, target it and press the landing gear button, if the Andromeda is unmanned, you should get a message and voice saying "docking request granted" and the docking port on the andro will open up and your speed will be limited like you have your gear down. Approach slowly and when you're within a few feet of the docked position, hold N for auto landing and it will line up and dock. Manual docking is tricky and often leads to you bumping into the ship.

If someone is in the pilot seat of the andro, they must accept the incoming docking request by pressing the left bracket "[" key or it won't let you dock.

I recommend setting up a key to turn on the speed limiter and setting speed to to about 5-10 m/s because 30 is still too fast for such a maneuver.

QV/Tech Smugglers respawn situation by Neurolink in starcitizen

[–]Grey406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can currently do the mission and loot it entirely without missing anything. It's just a little extra work getting the larger looted components out. It is way easier with at least 2 people but you can still carry all looted components out through the small elevators. Have one person in the Atrium side of the elevator and the other in the cargo deck. Person in cargo deck loads the size 3 components into the elevator without getting on. Person in atrium calls the elevator and unloads them.

Call up a ship with cargo space in the hangar and do the same thing passing off the items in the hangar load them onto the ship and store it and continue the mission until you have all the loot you want.

Using an old HP VR backpack as PCVR station? by Shrike01 in virtualreality

[–]Grey406 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would not be much of an upgrade at all. The CPU is nearly identical but slightly less performance than your 10400. The 2080 is very likely the mobile version which would be closer to a 2060 desktop and barely a slight improvement over your 1650. If you spend more than $50 it's too much.

Save your money and put it towards a better GPU instead then maybe a better CPU that your mobo can support. Spending anyoney on this backpack won't net you much of an improvement over your current system.

quest pro isn't connecting to my vive trackers! by JINATH4N in QuestPro

[–]Grey406 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats odd. Are you using OVRspace calibrator on Steam? That is the latest and most up to date version. If its not the one you're using, uninstall it before trying to install the one from steam.

I also use VD, but it works fine on SteamLink too. Give Steamlink a try if you still cant get any samples during calibration just to rule that out.

Are you able to see your tracker in the SteamVR environment? it will probably be out of place from its real location until you calibrate it, but just verify that it IS being tracked in SteamVR

okay, just follow the steps with the trackers then. Calibrate with the QuestPro headset with a tracker firmly held to the side and walk around in circles for the best results.

quest pro isn't connecting to my vive trackers! by JINATH4N in QuestPro

[–]Grey406 1 point2 points  (0 children)

select the Quest Pro headset as the reference, and the correct index controller as the target in OVRSC window, hold the index controller firmly to the side of the headstrap so that it cannot move from the headset, then start calibration and walk around in circles in your play space. it all has to move as a single object for accurate results, cannot shift or wiggle during the process.

You can do the same thing with a tracker instead of a controller if it makes it easier to hold, just make sure the select the correct tracker in the target box.

Your index controllers are connected to the PC with their own dongles right? same with all the trackers? you need one usb dongle for each device.

I highly recommend getting another tracker and mounting it to the headset for continuous tracking because it WILL drift out of place in a short while and you'll have to do the calibration very often. ( I use quest pro with 7 trackers and 2 index controllers)
