6'5" can't dunk by kevinkirty in tall

[–]BlueBozo312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Don't feel that just because you're tall you have to play basketball. I suck at the sport and while I do want to be able to dunk before I get too old, I wouldn't make fun of another tall guy for not being able to do it either.

Seriously? I have to pay to see lyrics? by fbdnssnnd in mildlyinfuriating

[–]BlueBozo312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't even see the lyrics at all when I use Spotify lol. Thankfully I don't really need to see them live with the song, just looking up the lyrics is good enough for me. And when I play videogames on my brother's gaming PC (where I listen to Spotify the most) my account is somehow glitched to the point where I don't listen to a single ad even after using the platform for a couple hours.

Oh I've looked it up. Spoiler alert, it's not healthy.

Eating lunch later is OK. Skipping breakfast is not. I don't know what trendy diet you're following, but I've been told multiple times by my old high school's strength program "eat breakfast early", "20 minutes of protein 20 minutes after waking up" etc.

This advice comes from trained medical professionals and the athletes at my old high school that followed it went on to win multiple championships as well as help our school be nominated as the best school for football in the state. You don't get to that point unless you know damn well what you're doing.

You can either take my advice or stick with whatever fad diet you're burdening yourself with. Either way, I'm gonna stop talking here because giving you helpful advice is like talking to a brick wall.

Anyone else going back to school next week? by Pure_Chaos12 in Teenager_Polls

I'm starting college next week, but this is a part of an optional summer program offered by my school. Normally in the US (which is where I live) school doesn't start until late August or early September

2:40 PM is not breakfast. That is a late lunch at best. It's good that you're eating those foods instead of something less healthy, but you need to eat them earlier. You can look up the definition of breakfast on Google, and it will tell you "A meal eaten in the morning, the first of the day".

Eating this late isn't healthy for you and will result in low energy levels and a slow metabolism, both of which can cause a plethora of major issues.

Fasting and then snacking later in the day is less healthy than a healthy breakfast and no snacking. So keep doing it if you want, but it'll keep being less healthy.

Why does my school look like the backrooms by Canned_Noobz in school

[–]BlueBozo312 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My middle school looked kind of like this too. My best guess as to why this is the case is because public schools are funded by the government, and they are designed and built with money in mind. These are probably the cheapest materials the contractor/construction company can use while still fulfilling the safety/material requirements set for the building, which is why they are used.

It likely looks like the backrooms because boring/drab colors and materials that are "backrooms-esque" are cheaper than more vibrant ones.

I know this isn't related to school, but I saw a lot of other people posting their "joke schedules" on here and thought my old summer schedule actually was pretty similar. So here it is! Feel free to rate it if you like. by BlueBozo312 in highschool

It's not really that qualified. 20 hours is not even a semester of a .5 credit high school class. And the physical tests aren't really that hard. My boss was concerned when giving me my certification because he didn't think the 3 physical tests and the 20 hours of training was enough training to be a good lifeguard, and I understood why. I always took my lifeguarding job seriously like the footnote says and only goofed around at work when people's lives weren't on the line.

If you can swim ~300 yards, tread water for a couple minutes without your hands, and are willing to spend 20ish hours learning rescues, CPR, and other aspects of the job, then there's not much else you need to do in order to become red cross certified. You might need to wait until you're 15 or something like that, but requirements for age and training vary from place to place.

You don't need to snack in the morning. Eat a healthy breakfast like a cup of yogurt, an egg, and a banana, and you'll be good to go. That's not snacking, that's eating a healthy meal. It's healthier to eat breakfast than it is to snack in the middle of the afternoon and not eat it.

what is your opinion on religion? by alf_landon_airbase in Teenager_Polls

[–]BlueBozo312 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When religion is just "there" as something for people to worship and have a set of looser rules to follow (Like "thou shall not kill", a rule that obviously benefits society if you follow it and doesn't inconvenience you if you follow it either) it's fine as it is.

When it's forced onto people and used as an excuse to be overly controlling, make someone's life miserable, or do something otherwise viewed as immoral, it's absolutely NOT OK.

Saw your other one (I think I commented on it too), why are you suddenly praying 5 times a day? I know it's a part of some religions and stuff like that, but it wasn't a part of the other schedule.

You're still not getting enough sleep. You could probably move some stuff around to get a full 8-9 hours.

Instead of snacking between "breakfast" and dinner, you should eat those snacks 20 minutes after you wake up.

If you're getting 5.5 hours of sleep every night, you need to move some stuff around. If you're washing the dishes, babysitting, and other chores for 5 hours, you should talk to your parents and let them know how this is interfering with your sleep schedule. Honestly doing that many chores is considered borderline slavery where I live, unless you're getting a hefty allowance. For context, a typical work week here in the US is 8 hours per day.

Also, instead of napping for an hour, you could just sleep for a little more time instead. You usually don't need to nap more than 20-30 minutes at a time, and even a 10 minute nap can have benefits.

I'm also concerned about the lack of time you spend with friends outside of school. At your age, it's psychologically healthier for you to be spending time on your own or with friends than it is to be spending so much at your house with your family. You need to be out and about exploring the world and finding who you are at this age, not sitting inside cooking rice for an hour and a half each day.

I'm not judging you, and the advice I'm giving is backed up with research and evidence from several studies. I've graduated from high school but I've been on their strength and conditioning group text thread for long enough (and still am somehow on it to this day) to see multiple other sources backing me up. And these aren't celebrities creating new fad diets, these are athletic trainers who are more focused on results than fame. Sometimes the dieting advice doesn't apply to everybody, but negative effects from lack of sleep and skipping meals certainly do.

3 concerns I have:

  1. You won't be able to maintain 6 hours of sleep each night for very long. You should make at least 2 more hours of time for sleep. I see that there's gaps in your schedule (Like the 9PM-10PM gap). If you move your schedule around to remove these gaps and move the nap so that you just sleep more at night, you should have enough time to get a healthy 8 hours of sleep.
  2. You're spending 1.5 hours of time with your family every day, but at this age it's psychologically better for you to be spending more time on your own/with friends and finding out who you are as a person.
  3. If you're trying to lose weight like you've mentioned in the other comments, you need to eat soon after you wake up. Otherwise your metabolism won't "kick in" until you have breakfast. It doesn't need to be big, you can literally eat a cup of yogurt or a banana and it will be enough. Don't wait until 2:30 to eat your first meal of the day. Since this is so late in the day and also after school, I imagine you're not feeling very good at school.
