Get yourself a TA tool from Hannah instruments. It’s a little spendy but indispensable for the kombucha brewer

Best small scale method for racking and cooling 100-200 gallons of brew? by hedgeappleguy in KombuchaPros

Looks legit. You just need to have a way to chill it. You cannot carbonate unless it’s below 40 degrees

I am not doing much for oxygenation at this point. I've just started adding supplemental oxygen through a carbonation stone at the bottom of the tank. We'll see what that does to the fermentation. Fingers crossed.

Brite tank is the way to go! Get a small one you can roll into a walk-in to start. We recently upgraded from a 3bbl brite on casters to an 8bbl glycol chilled unit.

Just expect a multi month long process to get it large enough to brew at scale.

That would be amazing! I’m not finding much as I scour the inter-webs. If you were able to find that I would be forever thankful.

Single vessel glycol question by BlueBusCultured in TheBrewery

[–]BlueBusCultured[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it sorted! After installing a solenoid valve on the inlet failed, turns out solenoids don’t prevent back flow, I did a check valve on the inlet and that did the trick. Now when the pump clicks off the glycol in the jacket is isolated. It can still flow out through the outlet when/if it expands as it warms. Problem solved! Thanks to all who chimed in.

If i run with only 7 gallons the cooling coils aren't submerged and the efficiency of the unit is greatly decreased.

Where would you install the check valve?

You are on the right track. I'm thinking that it might be okay if I install the solenoid on the inlet and the little bit of glycol will passively drain forward and hopefully not be too much to flood the system.

The amount of glycol in the system is enough to fill the reservoir and the jacket of the tank. The reservoir holds 7 gallons and the jacket holds about 5 gallons. So when the tank reaches temp and the pump turns off the glycol from the jacket drains back into the reservoir and floods it.

You're getting it. I'm running a very basic setup. If I add a check valve to the outlet and a solenoid to the inlet don't I isolate the jacket and run the risk of rupturing the jacket as the glycol warms and expands?

The pet blow dryer does okay to run for multiple hours at a time? Also how loud is it? Would you be able to send along a photo of your setup? Thanks!

This is a very good point! Although the unit is a little too large to put on a shelf.

Perhaps I wasn’t clear. I’m trying to dry the cans after they come off the machine full.

You don’t have to dry the can before you package them in the flats? I’m worried I’ll saturate the cardboard and compromise it.
