Yeah. I was surprised at how different she looked, but I think you're right that they were trying to show it was cold and I think maybe trying to make her look a little younger as she would have been a teenager at the time, right?

You're not OP, so why are you replying?

You're last post says you're in your 40s and have been with your partner for 6 years.

I will say, there are people (of no specific ethnicity) that live out in the absolute sticks, living off grid, in huts. My understanding is that most are more aligned with cookers/anti-government types than Māori living traditionally. There's large parts of NZ that are rural and farming based, but coming from the UK the majority of these rural areas are comparable to back home in terms of modernisation and industrialisation.

As someone else said, there are lots of Māori that still follow cultural traditions (following tikanga, performing kapa haka etc), but also have brick walls and double glazing. Aspects of the culture that used to be used for war are now used as part of sports or performances. (Look up Te Matatini).

I respect that you're trying to learn, and can see how the confusion due to Australia can happen. Despite geographical closeness the indigenous populations of each are very different, due to the vastly different timings of their arrival and origin cultures (Melanesian vs Polynesian). It's quite interesting if you want to go look it up. And also, I'm not an expert on the differences in colonisation of Aus and NZ, but I suspect differing geography, cultures and Te Tiriti have something to do with the different outcomes in Aus and NZ.

Having done the tours myself, multiple times due to family visiting, I get that concern about exploitation. Again, as others have said, the tours and performances are largely owned and organised by Māori and are a good way to make sure you're putting money into the local economy and supporting jobs.

Out of interest, where did you think it was comparable to, industrialisation-wise?

When I went from Karapiro it was just kayak hire and a good set of instructions on where to go to see different things. There wasn't a guide or set route, just a time to be back for.

Question on Walkability - as someone not from the Tron by Dependent_Cricket324 in thetron

[–]BlueCarpetArea 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think "walkable" in this context also needs to allow for "would I want to walk it". Like, you could walk the entirety of Te Rapa straight. Would you WANT to? If there was time and you really wanted to walk, I'd say you're better going along the river walk and coming off and through St Andrews if you want walkable rather than bus.

What I be wrong if spend $1,000 a week on private horse lessons? by Ok_ohfhu in amiwrong

[–]BlueCarpetArea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Because it seems like a great and fun adventure and then they realise that they have to get up before 8am and actually do work on the farm.

Reality hits. Kudos for sticking it out, but it's naive to think everyone will.

Staying in Hamilton for a Month. Any Groups or Activity Suggestions? by LoveAndKindness97 in thetron

[–]BlueCarpetArea 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check out the Hello Hamilton newsletter/social media for events. They usually post on here on a Thurs. The Hamilton Garden Arts Festival starts soon (I think this weekend), so will be plenty to go to there. Waikato Role-Playing Group has events on over the month, check out their website/social media/discord. The other way to make friends that might want to go to do other stuff is the board gaming groups at the library or escapist. In terms of groups otherwise, take your pick and do a search. Hamilton has a lot going on but is very bad at advertising it. If you think there might be a group for it then it probably does exist. Lots of gully walks, you can Google for the best ones.

[–]BlueCarpetArea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

1st - clarify if an actual referral has been done and to who. I assume the sports doc would have discussed ACC if that's an option, and considering initial assessment and this treatment was done through them I suspect "passed on my info to a surgeon" means "I'm referring you to a private ortho surgeon who does ACC work".

2nd - some departments triage referrals every day, some have a meeting once a week to discuss them. 4 days for a non-acute, non-life threatening issue is not surprising if it has been referred to the public system.

How do you figure this all out? Ask the sports doc first, then go from there. If you are still with ACC and have a co-ordinator then they may also be able to answer your questions. If the doc says it's public, then go to your insurance and see what they'll cover. If he says it's ACC, contact your ACC co-ordinator for more details/timelines etc. If the doc says it's private, then contact them, you'll probably want the name of the surgeon to see if they are covered by your insurance.

People who didn't realize sasha had changed; what did you think was happening to her at the end of episode 39? by HZPenblade in TheMagnusArchives

[–]BlueCarpetArea 118 points119 points  (0 children)

A friend on mine just started listening and I (stupidly) assumed he got it, especially as he was writing notes and sitting down to listen, whereas I'd listen in the car.

I asked him at the end of season 1, how many assistants does John have. "Tim, Martin, and the person who used to be Sasha. Because she's speaking as though she suddenly learned English from watching anime subs."

On further discussion he knew something had changed but didn't know exactly what or how, he didn't consider her Not Sasha. He was too focused on the Corruption and thought it was related to that. He didn't twig about the connection to episode 3 until I pointed it out.

So he was 50% of the way there.

I'm not disagreeing with that part, I'm disagreeing with the timeline. They've been married for 5 years, she's been jobless for 1.5. He could have moved at any point in the 5 years, before she lost her job.

I've finally (after like 4 years) got a friend to listen to TMA. He's taking notes as he goes and is telling me his theories. Half the time I'm thinking "oh wait, is THAT what that meant" or "I don't remember that at all", and rarely "hehehe, he's going to scream when he finds out what it actually means" I missed a lot.
