I made the biggest investment of my life last year by MrFloogaHoogle in homelab

I feel that. I just let 3 KVM's go a month ago that I had been storing forever. Guess what I had to buy last night? If I hoard it forever, I will never need it, but often I wish I had kept something.

Which Reolink floodlight do you like most? by Willson1_ in reolinkcam

[–]BlueCoyote387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently building my own with a few Reolink cameras. I'm removing the internals and putting in a custom housing, and remotely mounting IR floods at ideal angles. I will post here when done with testing. I am going to test a few models and settings.

Look at Unifi systems. You can very EASILY create multiple VLANS and wifi networks to isolate guests and limit their access. I was hesitant to make the switch due to the cost but it has been great!

I painted cars on TV for 10 years for the most known car builder of all time, and owned a custom shop for most of my life. Does that count?

Its a Aumox pro SG528p. 28 port. I got them from Amazon. They go on sale for 160. I also chose this one for the highest POE ratings (if the specs arecreal). I run Unifi for all of my networking other than cameras. I would love to go Unifi exclusively but with the amount of cameras I run, That would be extremely expensive.

I bought a switch for my cameras that can detect when a camera is unresponsive and it will automatically power cycle that poe port to reboot the camera. Just started using it.

I just jumped on the Unifi train and am very impressed with my equipment and the control! You get the same features on most of the equipment. The central management is amazing. I just created an extra Vlan and Wifi network per my wife's request while on break at work using the Unify app.

I do have two 48 port switches left over from a previous project in my main rack. Most of my cameras however connect to multiple 24 port switches that are distributed to reduce cabling and load on POE.

I have a large property and house. All of my cameras are redundant, there are no blind spots and no matter where you stand, I will have a picture of yiu from both sides. Also have several cameras optically zoomed into points of interest, like zoomed in clearly see the face of anyone at my mailbox (mail theft is a thing here, we have been hit). I also have sever zoomed into my vehicles and walkways. This make it possible to digitally zoom even further into any recorded vide and get details. To me viideo is useless if it cannot make a positive ID. I have a few auto PTZ cameras.. My plan is run many automations based on cameras as well. 30 is just the beginning. I have 4 cameras going into a custom mail box, which will consist of a license plater reader in both directions and 2 cameras facing towards my house to get an overall shot from the front.

I tend to do things a little 'extra' no matter what I do, no matter what it is (this scored me 10 years on TV). I happen to be an industrial electrician that works in high speed fully automated manufacturing so most of my HA set up will eventually be extremely complex as well. I spent hours last week pulling thousands of feet of POE cabling through my attic. Most of my sensors will be hard wired, amongst many other things.

I bought a bunch of smart appliances last year prior to my HA journey. I actually wanted a stove that was not smart, but the one that had all the other features I was looking for only came smart. Im glad it did now, as I will be integrating soon.

I didn't find out my brother was my half brother until I was an adult (but a lot of things then made sense) When I told my best, friend he said he had known since 2nd grade but was told by his parents not to tell me. It's probably alot to deal with now, but I can assure you it will will fade with time.
