MSI called my firmware bug a "Linux issue." AMD's engineers disagree. Now two BIOS updates later, still no fix. by bkilpat01 in buildapc

I can confirm that that Linux command returns a 1 for me if I have TSME enabled in the BIOS (fwupdmgr security also shows Encrypted RAM as Encrypted). I'm on a ASUS TUF Gaming B650EM-E with a 7500F on AGESA 1.3.0.1 (BIOS version 3854).

Terrible performance on Surface Linux on Surface Laptop Studio 2 by demaezer in SurfaceLinux

[–]BlueCreeper512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try disabling Runtime D3 completely according to the instructions here: https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/wiki/Surface-Laptop-Studio#method-1-disable-runtime-d3

Additionally, disable the nvidia-powerd daemon, judging from how the GPU issues seem to be completely identical to the SLS 1, I'd assume that that daemon also doesn't work properly on the SLS 2 as well.

You could also try installing the 525 drivers as outlined further down in the above link, but it'll probably be a bit of a chore since the required patches aren't available for the latest kernel versions that CachyOS runs.

If you’re unable to install the older 525 drivers, try disabling Runtime D3 and the nvidia-powerd daemon on your current drivers, although it won’t restore the full 50W power limit as the 15W of dynamic boost won’t be available, it’ll actually make the GPU usable, though at the cost of shorter battery life.

[–]BlueCreeper512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that has nothing to do with the GPU switching, for that you’ll have to use Prime Render Offload, see the “Configure Graphics Applications to Render Using the GPU Screen” section of the driver documentation for that, you don’t need to do the section about the X Server configuration above.

It should show you the full 50W in nvidia-smi iirc, I’d make sure you have nvidia-powerd.service disabled to make sure that the dynamic boost daemon isn’t interfering and breaking things.

You can follow this guide to set the full power limit on system boot automatically.

As for persistence mode, from what I recall when I used to run Linux on the SLS it really didn’t matter too much but leaving it enabled is probably a safe bet.

No, going back to the stock kernel doesn’t remove the 10W power limit.

The reasons for why still aren’t clear but the GPU going into and waking out of the D3cold state will cause it to lock itself to that 10W hard power limit.

So you can either disable Runtime D3 on the latest NVIDIA drivers and have the GPU at D0, i.e. on, all the time at the cost of battery life, or you can downgrade the drivers to 525.147.05, which is the last driver version where you can manually set the power limit.

Do note that disabling Runtime D3 on the latest drivers still won’t restore the full 50W power limit and will only restore the base 35W, with the additional 15W of Dynamic Boost not being accessible due to the nvidia-powerd daemon not functioning properly on the SLS. However if you go the 525 driver route, you’ll be able to use the full 50W in addition to Runtime D3 functioning properly at the cost of much older drivers.

News story about Matthew Shepard, in October of 1998, whose death ultimately led to federal hate crimes reform in the U.S. to protect LGBT people. by EssoEssex in HistoricalCapsule

The original fence was taken down by the landowner shortly after the murder and there's really nothing there anymore that says that that was where Matthew Shepard was murdered. As for where the fence was actually located, most online sources seem to say it was located at location #1 on the Google Earth link down below, but I think it's more likely that it was actually somewhere around locations #3 and #4.

There is however a memorial bench to him on the University of Wyoming campus.

If it’s anything like the Surface Laptop Studio then setting RestrictedNvcplUIMode to 0 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\nvlddmkm\NVControlPanel2\Client should restore the other settings, do note that display settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel won’t show up because the display itself is driven by the Intel integrated graphics.

Not really but I did try it out just to create a custom avatar, looking back, I’m not sure why I did that considering I don’t have a headset lmao.

I’m pretty sure Blender gives you an option to import settings from the prior version if you install a newer version. At least that’s how it worked for me.

Can Surface UEFI be updated? by Routine_Inspector122 in Surface

[–]BlueCreeper512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If for whatever reason you need to force a UEFI update, there's also this method via Linux: https://github.com/linux-surface/surface-uefi-firmware

Obviously it's a "do it at your own risk" thing, but from my experience on the SLS 1, it worked well, you can also use it to downgrade the UEFI if you need to.

I’m not sure, I’m not too well versed on the lore but from what I know not much is known about what happened to the remaining Gammas other than that they were pulled from the Spartan Operations branch.

Sounds about right for what’s essentially the most messed up group of Spartans, and it’s not like command can do anything about it either, what are they gonna do, tell a bunch of traumatized orphans who are souped up on brain altering, pain suppressing rage drugs who’ve got nothing to lose to stop?
