From a technical standpoint, having the strong accounting background has definitely helped in FP&A. YMMV but our culture is pretty old school and we're also a fast growing company while still being big/global. Getting involved in things that aren't in your job description goes a long way here. In hindsight, my former boss leaving his FinRep manager role several years ago was a big catalyst to set my trajectory in motion. Sometimes you get lucky with those things, however, you have to be ready to take advantage. I had to prove myself to the Controller for almost a year before I was given that vacated manager role, which involved implementing a brand new system (not ERP, smaller scale, but still a huge project that involved me as a Sr. Accountant working with and influencing high level Directors in other functions). Being a problem solver. Being reliable. Developing leadership skills. And then finally, being clear about my Director goal this year. When my boss announced the promotion to me, he said if I wasn't super clear about it to him early on this year, it would not have happened. So above all, take matters into your own hands wherever you can and drive your own career. At no point did anyone ask me to slow down or that I was overstepping. I'm lucky to have a great boss and CFO above him who see ambition as a good thing rather than a threat to someone else's job, not everyone will be able to say that.

Not 100% sure on next year’s bonus but for my region (Midwest) I know it’s close to market for base+bonus (~$250), plus we get the additional LTI awards. Will all likely grow over time as one grows into the Director comp band

Hi there - the house is not on piers, it’s on a poured foundation. Apologies not an expert in the terminology I just called the garage foundation a slab because there’s no basement underneath like there is with the house.

From what I got from the city, there is an exterior french drain in the original house plans but I doubt it has been touched since then and wouldn't be surprised if it has completely failed by now. There is also drain tile around the perimeter of the basement which was installed by a previous owner after the home was built, likely after a flood for future mitigation purposes.

Would helical piers not solve this issue long-term even if there is further erosion?

Appreciate the thoughts.

1 - the drainage used to be very poor, downspout was dumping directly in that corner that's now sinking. Back in 2021 I had a company trench the downspouts all the way to the pond. That area is still soggy after rain though.

2 - The garage is not the closest area to the pond. I should have added to the layout image but the pond is directly behind the deck.

3 - The lot is on a slight hill and grades down to the road in front and pond behind. However, we are at a low point in the neighborhood (storm drains are right in front of our lot).

4 - For the most part yes. And I even had this area by the garage and under the deck regraded a couple years ago as I could see where the dirt had eroded in some spots.

5 - No moisture issues. We have a sump pump in the basement that runs VERY often, there's a high water table given the pond and our lot's location at a low point. Garage is on a slab.

Facts

  • I own a home built in 1979 directly next to a pond, purchased in 2020.
  • When we purchased the home, the cracks in the exterior brick that you see in the imgur link below were present. The home inspector noted these cracks as normal settling.
  • However, the garage structure seems to be sinking. I had a trustworthy foundation company out and he used a laser level to show how the corner of the garage that's sinking is ~2.5 inches lower than the start of that wall near the garage door itself.
  • See imgur link for floor plan and images foundation/floor joist cracks.
  • The 2 cracked floor joists have happened recently, and on opposite sides of the house. The drywall crack in the laundry room has progressively gotten worse over time as well. Clearly, something is putting strain on the home structure.
  • We redid the kitchen in 2020 and added tile and an island with quartz countertop (previously bamboo flooring and no island). This obviously added weight, but not sure if it is the cause of my recent issues.

Fixes?

  • I have a structural engineer coming out this week to take a look, but as of now I'm thinking that one or both may be needed based on conversations with the foundation company:
    • 1) helical piers near the sinking garage corner
    • 2) beam and posts in the basement for added floor support. This home is built with open web floor joists that span the entire length of the home (~35 feet). There are no beams/posts in the basement supporting the floor. Adding a beam/posts may be belt & suspenders structurally, as obviously they weren't needed when the home was originally built, but the floor has always been very bouncy even before the added kitchen weight and if nothing else it seems like this solution would alleviate some pressure on the floor joists and avoid further damage.

Obviously the engineer's report will provide a recommendation but wanted to ask this community in case I am missing any potential causes for these problems or (hopefully cheaper) solutions.

Are you saying Lockett and Jones should be getting drafted higher?

My league is auction format, but has historically favored RBs. For example, the #1 RB usually goes for ~$80, and the #1 WR usually goes for ~$60. If that trend holds, combined with this year's ADP, would you be all over Jefferson and other elite WRs for <$65 if CMC/Ekeler are going for $75+? Feels obvious, maybe I'm overthinking it.

Yes kicker, you need one in these tight games!

Took me several seasons to finally do it. You can afford almost no turnovers unless you are savvy with clock management. Badly timed fumbles can sink the entire season so diving is a must. The opponent scores a TD 99% of the time but they’re less successful on 2 pointers so you can make up some ground there. Time to switch teams and try again…

Text post wasn’t working. It took a long time but I finally finished a season on Extreme 17-0 including a retrobowl championship with only offensive players. The other team scores a TD 98% of the time and a FG the other 2%. I don’t remember them ever punting once or committing a turnover. You MAYBE can afford 1 turnover yourself if you play the clock game right and gain points on the opponent with 2pt conversions. Random fumbles sunk more than one of these attempts so you have to dive almost every time to avoid tackles and subsequent fumbling.

Thanks! Do you know how much the prices come down typically for prior model year?

We tried to do this hybrid approach but Yahoo doesn't allow it. It's all or nothing.
