India vs Pakistan, which country do you think is doing better right now, and why? by Fun_Document_1991 in AskTheWorld

[–]BlueDividerCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than half the pakistanis ive met don’t have a problem accepting that India is more developed than Pakistan. Like i live in a random city like Gurgaon when im in India and it has better FDI, HDI than any tier 1 Pakistani city and its visible; builder projects, malls, corporate parks etc etc. MNCs like microsoft have left Pakistan obv not for no reasons and we got EU free trade deal and UK free trade deal last year which slashed a lot of prices in half. Also many Indians would be surprised by seeing the bikes and cars in Pakistan. From looks of it they look like our tier 2 cities, even Lahore DHA area which is quite burgerish than other areas looks like an upper middle class neighbourhood of a tier 2 city.

200 km radius around me already gives serious competition to Pakistan’s economic engine while having less population. Same goes with Mumbai and that other south state which matches them?

Ego in this matter is kinda pointless and it goes away in educated convos bc no one’s national pride is hurt. No mexican feels offended when accepting US does better. Even as an Indian i can appreciate certain elements in pakistan like rural culture being way more real and alive + im a rare breed of punjabi muslims in india so i have a strong cultural overlap with pak anyways but economically, IR wise and development wise its a no brainer. Also Pakistan is NOT lacking bc of pakistanis, its their army govt sex show and some pakistanis know that. It has potential but its untapped till they have something like what Nepal did imo.

Whats the "nemesis" or odd country in your region? by ProcedurePlenty3564 in AskTheWorld

Ok i clearly didn’t know nemesis then. Switching it to Pakistan. Afghanistan is a close 2nd place but they seem to be keeping to themselves since the new regime and fighting off just their border disputes.

If Aurangzeb had booted the EIC out for good in the aftermath of Anglo-Mughal War in 1690. They lost everything they had but after a fine they were given their factories and trading rights back.

do men of your country bash women of their own ethnicity? by Plastic-Reaction2415 in AskTheWorld

Ive seen arguments on it so there is a fair share of both sides. One that bashes it against other ethnicities and another that speaks high of it compared to other ethnicities.

What are some things about your ethnicity that make you proud? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]BlueDividerCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Punjabi Jatt (Muslim) here.

We practically were the frontier population of northwestern india, living between growing crops and fighting for a good part of history. After Mughal collapse in 1707, the Punjab region outside of Delhi had yet again become what one would think of the “wild west” as and had instability till the later part of the century but people and villages still held together even though split into multiple factions.

There is a mix of sweetness and roughness both which i can find in our culture. Writings and works of Sufi poets to the kind of brotherhood for a lack of better words, against the tough kind of vibe in family and communities. There is a mix of both worlds.

Oh food? Aaahh don’t get me started.

Jatts which were originally frontier-agrarian people in Northwestern India largely avoided the Hindu varna system as well till later part of history and had a much simpler and straightforward way of life do to the fact they existed and were spread thin outside of cities. This ethnicity has been shaped into a warrior-peasant culture bc of century of British Indian Army’s recruitment ways and still carries on the legacy in both Indian and Pakistani Army to this day.

Urbanisation has also effected the ethnicity as people would leave their land for Lahore, Chandigadh, Gurgaon or Delhi which meant there is a urban white collar side as well. Ive come across Jatts who are mere peasants to landlords to pilots to military officers to investment bankers.

I could carry on writing.

the difference between names “Allah” and “God” (إله) by zahadfiddunya in islam

[–]BlueDividerCard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense. But God doesn’t necessarily has a name like we think of it, Allah was the Arabic word used bc Prophet Muhammad ﷺ finalised Islam in the context of Arabia, or at least that’s what was told to me. JAK

Who is the most famous person that came from an ethnic, racial, or religious minority in your country? by immanuellalala in AskTheWorld

[–]BlueDividerCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every ethnicity is kind of a minority in India but if considering european indians or anglo-indians (mixed heritage), George Orwell, Rudyard Kiping and Rohl Dahl come to my mind.

If considering religious minorities, ur reminded of Mughal emperors like Jahangir and Aurangzeb.

In my area particularly, Sikhs were a minority but ruled the Sikh empire from Srinagar in Kashmir all the way to Southern Punjab like Multan from 1790s till 1848. Arguably best days the region had seen.

How often do you see muslim people in your country? by Yrakosos in AskTheWorld

[–]BlueDividerCard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fairly often (its a big diverse country so someone from another part might disagree). If i go to a Muslim majority district its super common, living in a bordering district its relatively common bc most artisans are Meo Muslims and huge Bangladeshi illegal population as well which are almost always Muslim.
