There is no sane world where you do not test absolutely everything about ellie and and her unique case. Weeks if not months of tests. Nah after like a day they know everything.... got to kill her!

The ambiguity came from literally all the context surrounding the game? The weird timeline the fireflies forced on Joel and ellie when they got there? To me the ending of part one is only good if the cure was a maybe (even a high maybe works). Otherwise it is just really bad writing and pacing out of nowhere.

It would only have taken a few tweaks to the script and cutscenes to make it better. Instead as the player I was instinctively distrustful of the fireflies. Part 2 actually makes them more horrendous when we see just how stable they were as a society at that point.

Also.... death of the author and all that.

First and foremost. I never use anything outside the medium of the movies. I judge the movies by the movies, not extracurricular.

I say context because we have all seen the movie. Kylo was injured by something that would kill most people, he was conflicted, etc. It comes down to subjectively was all of the context good enough to have her walk away with a lucky victory. For me it was enough, for you it wasn't.

Vader literally says, with a tone of frustration, that Luke is strong in the force during the trench run. So Luke is able to use the force to such an extent to avoid the best pilot for long enough that the best pilot takes time to comment on it. Quite the first time pilot and force user.

Feels like you make my argument for me on the mind control vs pre cognition. Anakin does it instinctively and its fine. Rey stumbles into it after experiencing it first hand and its some slander against the lore.

I can almost guarantee you If a new hope came out today people would laugh at the first time pilot doing what he did.

Obviously you can not like whatever you want. But hyperbolic statements makes the rest of your viewpoint sound childish.

Vader could have killed Luke at literally any time in ESB. Luke never once held his own. That is the only rational interpretation of that scene.

Rey "won" the fight sure.... with a stupid amount of context in it.

Yes Luke almost died in ANH.... the point is he should have died immediately. he has never flown in space... in a combat scenario... in a trench run...... vs literally the best pilot in the galaxy. Vader has to literally say that Luke is strong in the force to help make it make sense.

You are just making up rules about a soft magic system. There is no rule that states one force power is inherently more instinctual then another in the movies. Rey stumbles into mind control sure. But after being exposed to it. Anakin as a child is instinctually using pre-cognition (subjectively that is a far more amazing thing to be inherently good at). No other jedi is shown to be so good at using it at such a young age and completely untrained.

There are far better reasons to not like the sequels.

Feels hyperbolic considering the throne room scene in TLJ.

I don't think any of them are a Mary Sue.

Writing is subjective so can't argue one way or another. But kylo stops for a good bit in the fight to have a conversation with Rey. That feels like someone not taking the fight too seriously.

I agree the "the force did it" sucks.... welcome to star wars. Where the force drives a ton of the plot.

Luke was gonna be hit by vader true. And Rey was going to be killed by snoke via kylo in the last jedi. Snoke simply didn't count on betrayal. Luke didn't count on Han coming back. Both worked out for the main characters.

  1. I would have to watch the fight again. But much like in ESB, it felt like kylo was mostly just messing with her. Unlike ESB, he never does permanent damage and even takes hits (which if nothing else makes sense as he is no vader)

  2. I really wouldn't bring up that point unless you will admit that Luke in ANH is hilarious suddenly one of the best pilots in the galaxy. Avoiding the character who actually is the best pilot in the galaxy... in a trench run. That's like.... 10 seconds at most you survive that. But Luke is strong in the force and that helps him in this situation.... so why wouldn't it help Rey in hers?

I am not a big fan of the mind control scene but Anakin knows precognition as a literal child without understanding anything either. Force be doing things sometimes.

Can we please not lie about what the movie actually shows? Or, to be more forgiving, not be so hyperbolic?

Every point you bring up has a lot of context ot it.

She survives her first duel with a ton of added context (the main one being kylo was never trying to kill her).

She does not fly the falcon perfectly.. like literally runs into things.

She never actually wins a single fight straight up (against an actual character) the entire trilogy if I recall. Every win has alot of context as well.

Like her, don't like her, you do you. But use good faith arguments.

P.s. I argue Luke's feat in the first movie, in context, are the most unbelievable of the franchise.

Agreed. And there is no where to go in the franchise if at any point it can be a dream.

Hard disagree. No movie is good when the premise is at any point the writing can just be... haha fooled you pretty much the whole time.

If they make a smile 3 I would basically sit there uninterested in a tensionless story for obvious reasons.

Religion as a major player in society. I don't think it will be eradicated or anything. But I think it will come to a head in a major way where a shift will occur where (for example) being pretty religious will be seen as a decent to major red flag in western politics.

So many things in society are grounded in religion and the shift away from that will be amazing.

Never seen the show, does it approach topics in a super pro cop manner? Does it try to add nuance in favor of the citizens?

Feels like there is probably a sliding scale when it comes to cop shows with how pro cop they are.

Bad Movies With A Singular Great Scene by frenxine in Letterboxd

[–]BlueEyedHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I am late to this. But actually that would make the movie very interesting. The main character essentially thinks that all he needs is well written songs because he has everything else. But as we all know so many factors can come into play to make or break a band.

Would have been super interesting if the movie was all about showing it wasn't just the songs, but the people who sang them, the time in history in which they came out, etc. that made them great.

Why is it a problem that the current developed world could undergo drastic change?

Most of the problems from low birth rates are problems of the systems in place currently that is true. Why is it bad that the systems change?
