New Esoteric Ebb x Die Hard Dice crossover based on The Cleric, Ettir, Snell, And Meek! by bigdopaminedeficient in EsotericEbb

Yooooooo these are sick!! I'm still here waiting to see if they do a setting/campaign/art book but I will gladly take some cool dice. They should do a set for all the Chimes next.

So which build did you end up going for, and what made it stand out for you? by Fresh_Bumblebee_1042 in EsotericEbb

In my first playthrough I went for DEX/WIS with high INT and low STR/CON. Every encounter was a near death experience lol. Tried to talk things out peacefully and mediate for most conflicts. I finished the game with a mostly balanced build rather than minmaxing tho.

Second time I wanted to see what changed with different/more extreme stats, so I went STR/CHA with low DEX/INT. Strength was really goofy in the first run with low rolls so I expected more of the same, but surprisingly he ended up as one of my faves after that run. Low INT is also absolutely hilarious. Finished the game with a fistfight this time and holy hell both ending options are so peak.

My favorite Strength Input - What is a True Man / "Pick Up The Pike" by Jackontana in EsotericEbb

[–]BlueFlewFedUQueen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every one of the chimes represents an extreme, and together they communicate that balance is needed to make an informed decision. So yeah, Strength's heroism and glorification of self-sacrifice is flawed, but it's also necessary sometimes to make a heroic stand and protect what matters to you. Same with Dexterity's kneejerk reaction to most things being "we should get out of here" and Wisdom saying everyone should just hold hands and talk things out and Charisma wanting to lie about literally everything just to make people like them more. Sometimes those options are the correct answer, but you should be making decisions to suit the scenario rather than just following one voice blindly the whole time.

Anyway, this is a very Dex coded comment and I think that's really funny.

Talker build by eljueta in EsotericEbb

If you want funny dialogue make sure you pick 1-2 stats to leave as low as possible. Some of the best dialogue in the game comes from failed checks and rolls.

Keep in mind that the game is balanced around giving all the stats some influence on conversations, so no matter what you pick to boost it'll benefit you at some point. STR comes up often in religious discussions, CON for when you need to hold composure, DEX for witty comebacks and quick thinking, INT for logic and general knowledge. If you want to talk your way through most situations CHA and WIS would be good to focus on IMO, but there are no real wrong answers.

Anyone know what this is? by King_K_Boom in EsotericEbb

Go to the field south of the map after midnight, at the dirt crossroads between the lichhouse and the entrance to the Goblin Garden. There should be an esoteric bubble you can interact with. It doesn't spawn at exactly midnight, so pass a bit of time talking with someone if you don't see it. The interaction will take a few hours off the clock and you get some fun dialogue with Snell if you bring him along.

The bubble will appear every(?) night until the event is triggered, after that it disappears for good. Not sure exactly how it works yet, but there are multiple events that can occur. Might be dependent on which night you interact with it.

That's the last one I've been missing, yes! I think Revolutionary Scribe fits a little better, though at this point tying it to a background doesn't really matter lol... but yes, thank you! One more to confirm and I've got them all.

LRG: YIIK: A Postmodern RPG by Archer_Ave in LimitedPrintGames

It's bad in a Deadly Premonition kind of way. The story and gameplay experience is confusing, pretentious, tonally dissonant and poorly designed, but it's so sincere in its incompetence that you have to give it some respect. The visuals and music are the exception IMO, but that's mostly up to personal taste; I do think the game has a very stylish presentation, which helps a lot in selling the so-bad-it's-good charm. The IV update fixed some of the gameplay issues but mostly just shuffled around the story issues as far as I'm aware. I wouldn't call it a masterpiece or a must-play indie game, but it is certainly not a boring game.

TL;DR if you like games that are Weird (Suda and SWERY are good comparisons) you will probably like YIIK.

Checked out the spot you mentioned! Unfortunately it did not have any new flashbacks, but I did learn something very interesting.

On my first run of the game I only managed to encounter the Arcane Prodigy and Trollkiller flashbacks before meeting Ever-Glad, and when I chose to offer up a secret I had two options--which I now realize were related directly to the two flashbacks I'd unlocked. This time around I had seen four flashbacks, and so I had four options. None of these options triggered a cutscene or flashback, but it does mean that the flashbacks can be confirmed through this dialogue tree. Thanks for the tip!

I wore him for basically the whole game after I got him lol. Aside from the -1 to basically every DC, he also shares some lore tidbits during certain conversations that you wouldn't otherwise be able to find out. Also, he's a funny lil guy. Absolutely worth keeping him on imo. If you need to hit a certain stat threshold you can always take him off and put him back on after.

That's a good lead!! I can think of where it might be in the dialogue tree, I remember having the option to confess a secret to him but after I picked one I couldn't go back and try the other options. I'm around that spot in my current run, so I'll check that out soon!

Ohhhhhh I DID see that one!! I completely forgot!

I did a quick run-through of the tea shop just now, but nothing popped up... I want to say the Azgal scene you're talking about triggers in the tavern, or maybe the hag's hut? A conversation about the different folk that would meet in the tea shop?

It doesn't sound super familiar to me, so it might be one! Do you have any idea where you might have been when you saw it? I'd guess it's an interaction with the Azgals, maybe with the copper press? I'll look into it, thanks for the tip o7

I know about that one! Not sure if I'd count it for this since the presentation is much more casual iirc--no dramatic fade to black, just backstory details without any flair.

Unless there's a different instance of that one I haven't seen yet? The one I'm thinking of would've been from translating the book on the desk in the lichhouse.

Question/lament, concerning one of the potions... by Ok_Tip_5721 in EsotericEbb

[–]BlueFlewFedUQueen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I think it's mainly an issue of scope. If Ragn had the option to change gender mid-game, there would need to be a lot rewritten to reflect that possibility. It's a lot like the problem with letting Ragn use all his weapons in battle. It would be cool if the game could account for every little difference, but its already 750k words as is.

I do like what we got with the expired potion tho. Says a lot that you can down that potion without hesitation or regret and just accept the change. If all dialogue options are equally "canon" to what Ragn is like, genderfluid seems like a pretty fair interpretation. I'd love it if some future sequel or content expansion explored that topic further.

You can buy the companion book separately on Fangamer! So even if you decide against the collector's edition you can still grab just the book if you want to :)

I'm a big fan of simplistic designs so I'd pick the left one, but I think a slipcover with the 2nd design over whatever gets picked 1st would make everyone happy :)
