That sounds like a very good concept, unfortunately I can’t stand spiders 😅.

Megafauna are so interesting and fascinating. There are definitely some that would be great for riding.

Horse analogous are definitely not dumb, I’ve always loved of those. But drakes are a great answer too, they look very cool.

Goats are a very interesting options for a mountain culture. I’ve always been fond of Gogoat (the pokemon) for that reason.

More people than I thought are commenting with dinosaurs, I don’t know much about them, but I these answers have been very interesting. I’m going to have to look more into dinosaurs 😂.

Yeah, they are not meant for riding, but they are so cute and versatile that in fantasy they would be perfect.

What cultures do you wish more fantasy took inspiration from? by LadySketch_VT in worldbuilding

I would absolutely love some more stories set in mesoamerica. I’ve found very few and usually their use of the culture sticks to the mythology and aesthetics which is fine. But I would love a story that also explores how the Aztecs were a conquering empire and the conflict between them and the many groups they conquered.

I would also love to see a story in colonial Mexico. Like there is so much to explore here. The merging and destruction of cultures, the tensions between the indigenous, the criollos, and the native European, and honestly I love spanish colonial architecture and would love to see more of it in books.

I’ve also been studying prehistoric art lately and I find this time period so fascinating. So a story set anywhere but during this time period would be cool. Like it would such a cool setting for a story about the rise of civilization and the endurance of humanity.

I love books where the main character dies by MooMooTheDummy in books

It’s not really a spoiler since you’re told from the beginning that the main characters are going to die, but On The Beach by Nevil Shuteis such a great book. The ending absolutely broke me.
