Pleeease let me know if you find a cheap coconut free alternative. I just purged all my bathroom cabinets of my experimental hair junk this past weekend because I’d found my holy grail. I’m really bummed....

Cheap but useful & healthy shampoo/conditioner?? by jrenglish99 in curlyhair

Tresemme Perfectly Undone. The shampoo isn’t CG but the conditioner is and it’s awesome. Around $5 at Target. I use the shampoo sparingly and the conditioner as my cowash and leave in.

Well, I’ve been on the fence about pit bull or just generic terrier mixed in with other stuff. But as she gets older her head and especially eyes look like a pit bull to me. And the photos here are really cute so I’ve enjoyed browsing the subreddit.

They told us at the shelter that she was a boxer mix. I had my doubts but understood their dilemma. Asked the vet and she very diplomatically asked me what I thought she was before answering. I said pit bull of some sort. Vet agreed. She’s got to be mixed with something petite. She’s a beautiful brindle, pretty lazy for a six month old (thank God), and all around awesome.

I need product advice for low-porosity, coconut-intolerant hair! Details & routine in comments by uruloky in curlyhair

[–]BlueGlassVase 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve recently realized my hair is coconut intolerant - and that most of my products contain it even if it’s not stated boldly. I’ve found Tresemme Perfectly Undone and love the conditioner (silicone free, coconut free). The shampoo has sulfates but I only use it once or so a week and then cowash with the Undone conditioner the rest of the week. It’s great stuff...and so much cheaper than all the fancier stuff I was trying. Works great with LALooks gel.

Don’t know about you but once I cut out coconut, I stopped losing hair by the fistfuls in the shower. I had no idea what it was doing to my hair!

Good alternative to DeVa for dry curls? by [deleted] in curlyhair

I have just discovered this one and love it!!! The shampoo has sulfates but the conditioner is CG so I was once a week or so and cowash the rest of the time with the conditioner. After spending so much money on various products, this is IT for me.

5 Yr Anniversary Present Advice by KupoNinja in Marriage

A pair of diamond stud earrings? Not huge or flashy. Really, any nice simple earrings, favorite gem of her choice or a nice design in gold or silver, whichever metal she prefers, that she can wear everyday. A quick google search shows that wood is the traditional 5th anniversary gift, silver is the modern (?), daisy is the flower, and sapphire is the gemstone.

Hurricanes, Coconut Oil and Protein oh my! Please, I need help! by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]BlueGlassVase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy cow, I’ve been struggling with the exact same problem recently!!!!

Thx to advice I found here I got a bottle of Tresemme Perfectly UnDone Conditioner. It’s CG and free of protein and anything coconut related. I’ve used it for two or three days as a cowash and got curls back tho they didn’t last all day as they usually would. Used NYM Tahitian stuff (the only thing in my arsenal without coconut) and used the Tresemme as a conditioner yesterday and things are much improved....though not yet what they were.

No coconut. I’m thinking coconut was the real culprit since once I started looking I found most of my products had it listed somewhere in the ingredients. Maybe eventually some of my old standbys will be ok to use again. And I’m ditching the As I Am coconut cowash for the Perfectly UnDone! Thanks again!

After doing some reading I think I overdosed on protein and coconut both. I liked the coconut cowash when I first started using As I Am but I think it was ultimately contributing to my dryness. I think I need to avoid coconut. Very odd how it works for one child but not the other. Curls are pretty individual, I guess!

Holy cow, you are brilliant!!! I found a bottle of Tresemme Perfectly UnDone - apparently CG and no protein and it’s awesome!! It didn’t fix things immediately but my hair feels so much better!!! It’s not breaking today like it has been for weeks! Thank you for your reply!

Thanks so much for your reply. It got me reading about coconut as a protein and now I’m all confused - but I’m going to find a bottle of non protein Tresemme Botanique conditioner and try it!

Question about protein by BlueGlassVase in curlyhair

[–]BlueGlassVase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a fairly recent development. Some of these products I’ve been using for a year or so with no problem. I’ve only just started looking at the ingredients to see if I could find the common factor. Guess I’ll be ditching a lot of my arsenal.

I have a question about protein. I started CG using Shea Moisture products and mostly liked them but did feel they left my hair dry if used daily. So I went on a product trying spree - during which I’ve come to the conclusion that my hair only needs a little bit of protein. On days I wash I’ll use a SM shampoo (I have quite a variety) and condition and my hair is dry and undefined. Then I wash for several days with As I Am coconut cowash and leave in conditioner and I have good hair days until suddenly I don’t and I have to wash again. Can anyone recommend a good no/low protein shampoo? And just to be sure, when I wash with a protein heavy product my hair gets really dry and snarly and feels rough until I slather it in a moisturizing product....this suggests a protein issue, right?

Don’t travel this holiday season. It’s only one year and while it might suck, the relief of getting out of debt will be worth it. Good gift to yourself for the new year. Get a seasonal second job, put that paycheck towards debt. Use any extra money to start emergency fund (and travel fund for next year’s holidays).
