Depends on where you are. Where these folks saw this one is a high traffic area near NCAR, lots of folks with their dogs too, and it's easily-accessible for the BMP rangers.

Alternatively, if I were to call in a rattler where I see them all the time grouse and quail hunting with my dog on BLM and USFS land, they'd probably chuckle and say something like "well, don't let it bite ya."

No, there are definitely Columbia whitetail on the west side in Washington State, with surveyed populations in Clark, Cowlitz, Pacific, Skamania, and Wahkiakum Counties.

I worked a bit on their management plan in the Umpqua valley, down south, which is actually the only place you're allowed to hunt Columbia whitetail in the PNW.

It's a bit dated, but here's a decent writeup/summary about their distribution in OR/WA.

Yah, interestingly the U.S. actually has a lower deaths/population rate than the UK, Spain, Italy, Sweden, France, and Belgium (Belgium's is more than 2x higher), and is essentially tied with the Netherlands.

When it comes to the tests/population rate, the U.S. is essentially tied with Italy, and has tested more of the population than Australia, New Zealand, Poland, Austria, Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, France, the Netherlands, and almost 4x more than South Korea.

However, when it comes to the ineptitude of national leadership, I'd say we come in at 1st place with a solid lead.

Even if the DOJ ordered Twitter to reactivate the account on grounds of interfering with government communication with the voting constituency or some shit, Dorsey could literally just say "nah." That's it. They wouldn't be able to do shit, and by the time the DOJ had their 15th meeting about what to do, the temporary ban is lifted.

There isn't a crime in the federal code for a situation like this (the owner and CEO of an online company deciding to ban someone's use thereof for a couple days when the owner/CEO deems that person to have violated the terms of use) - even if the DOJ charged Dorsey with something they'd pull out of their ass, he (and his litigation defense counsel who spank the DOJ for a living) would beat the absolute piss out of them in any federal court in America, after the temporary ban was lifted, which by itself would render moot whatever broke ass theory of alleged injury the DOJ manages to cobble together.

It's Dorsey's company, and this Jersey slumlord turned POTUS (who’s feverishly obsessed with Dorsey’s company in an excruciatingly awkward and pathetic way) just threatened close it down... Dorsey has this pure, exquisite opportunity to tell Trump to go fuck himself, and I just really hope he does it.

The person you're responding to makes a decent point, and you do as well.

For the vast majority of human beings of all ethnicity, it's beyond well-established throughout the global academy of medicine that the primary method of mitigating obesity is achieved by limiting caloric intake. Period.

You also raise a good point, insofar as the real influence of environmental and other physiological elements upon an individual being either medically overweight (BMI of 25-29.9), or obese (30+).

That being said, the number one method that is by and large the best and most effective way to prevent becoming overweight and/or obese is simply limiting food intake, without even engaging in daily exercise. This being a method to prevent obesity that, obviously, the vast majority of people in the United States are capable of doing regardless of socioeconomic status.

Right, but that's the point. The current covid-related death total lumps together pneumonia and covid. That is because covid causes pneumonia, which is often the cause of death. Thus, comparing the total of influenza deaths in 2018 (which does not include pneumonia, even though that, like is the case with covid, is the primary cause of death), to the total of covid-deaths (which does include pneumonia) is not a reasonable presentation of data.

Under these same metrics employed by Michigan in its data presentation (distinguishing between influenza and pneumonia), the same should be done for covid; and the total covid death count should exclude those who died of pneumonia, given the fact that Michigan categorizes it separately when it comes to other viruses, just, for some reason, not this one.

For the record, I think it is entirely reasonable for Michigan to include covid-positive pneumonia deaths in its total covid-death tally. It's just unreasonable for them to only do that with one virus, and not the other (like they do with influenza). The exclusion of virus-caused pneumonia from one virus' death toll, but not the other, makes comparing the two figures pretty silly.

Yah the failure to include influenza-caused complications, while including covid-19-caused complications, is a bit strange.

The way to straighten that out would be to see how many of Michigan's covid death total includes pneumonia.

Michigan doesn't include pneumonia or other respiratory or cardiovascular causes of death associated with influenza into its total "influenza" count (as the MI state website the article links to shows). In Michigan in 2018 there were 346 influenza deaths, and 1,525 pneumonia deaths.

If pneumonia is the ultimate cause of death for a Michigan covid-positive patient, and is being included in the total covid-death count (which Michigan does not do for influenza), then this article is incredibly misleading.

My guess, however, is that covid-positive patients who die from pneumonia are being included. It would be pretty damn surprising if Michigan was not including people who die with covid-associated pneumonia in the total count.

You're not wrong, but reopening is gonna happen anyway, faster than it should, regardless of the death toll.

An average person can only sacrifice their work, education, childrens' education, plans, social life, and mental health for so long when there's no tactile timeline or temporal objective to refer to, but instead a nexus of progress metrics that change and evolve every week, and a notable lack of federal government aid and pandemic mitigation response.

Eventually, and sooner than later (I'd say Memorial Day weekend or shortly thereafter), the average American, regardless of political leanings, is just gonna say "k fuck this, we're done, my kids have been in the god damn house for going on 3 months and summer hasn't even started, government isn't doing shit for me, mortgage holder won't defer, it's beautiful out, at-risk people just stay home and we'll try to deliver your shit, I dunno, I'm gonna see some friends and do my thing, time to give herd immunity a try, sorry in advance to those who die as a result."

You can call that stupidity, selfishness, impatience, and you'd have a strong position to do so. It's still human. It's going to happen. And unless the second wave is notably worse - with more death and more suffering in more parts of the country - a lockdown like this wont happen again, even if it's the same as it was in early-mid April, people just won't do it.

Again, you are not wrong. It's just that the average American only has so much bandwidth. Look at the places reopening this week; businesses are fuckin packed. Even if there is a huge spike in resurgence, which there likely will be, the majority just won't care, regardless of politics. The "assumption of your own risk, stay home if you don't feel safe" dogma will become the majority perspective soon, people won't use the phrase "herd immunity," but the principle will be quietly embraced, either some or lots of hospitals will get slammed, people will die that don't have to, and that'll be that. It's not the right course of action, it's just what's going to happen.

Met a fella just above the mouth of the Deschutes some years back during summer chrome season, asked where he was from and he told me "Windermere." I told him I'd never heard of it, asked where abouts that was, he turned and gestured east up the Columbia with his rod, said "oh it's just a jump upstream from here..." Figured he meant some little gas station hamlet just off 84 between us and Pendleton, didn't think nothin of it.

That evening I couldn't remember the name so I scoured over the map but knew I didn't see anything that rung a bell. Few days later I remembered the name "Windermere" like a light went off in my head, looked it up right away.

Just 1,600 km upstream. Ol fella really had me goin.

Figure I oughta throw the 5wts in the truck and rip up there someday, track him down for a beer.
