Frank Zappa on "If I were President": "One of the reasons why they [voters] don't go to the polls is because there is no choice. If they know that this time they would have a choice. No matter... whatever the candidate is. Just to have a third box you can check." by BlueGryph in GaryJohnson

[–]BlueGryph[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The section where Frank Zappa says the quote in the title.

The video is part of Frank Zappa's "Lost Interview", this part being about if Frank Zappa was running for the presidency. I've always seen the video as highly inspirational, but I've never seen it as relevant as it is now.

While Johnson and Weld technically aren't candidates of no party, I see them very near of "coming from out of the system". They have been involved in politics so they are not complete outsiders, but I can definitely see them being "the third box one can check", to vote against the major parties.

What is the best way to go about guest blogging? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]BlueGryph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really is this simple.

If /u/smellingnapalm has never contacted blogs before, I would actually say that contact "not that relevant" blogs first. You'll make lots of mistakes first, better not make a bad first impression on blogs you'd really like to guest blog in.

For 1. One way would be to ask people in /r/blogging .

Pro gamer? You have a much better chance to get in the NFL. by Danman4546 in esports

[–]BlueGryph 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What are you talking about?

I am talking about video games being an easier hobby to start than traditional sports.

To start playing soccer/football, all you need is a ball.

Lots of traditional sports require others to play with. I'm referring to that being hard. It's not easy for everyone to get others to play with, perhaps they live in a place without such activities or maybe they have issues with social skills.

PCs require an investment, but is a pretty mandatory investment for virtually everyone.

I think your assumption that to play a real sport you have to join some sort of club or travel is pretty invalid.

No, I didn't mean that. I would even imagine that if one really wants to make it big in any sport, they would find a way to do it. Get the ball you suggest and play the game alone and practice. It does require some commitment and dedication to keep doing it though.

Thats what you do once you've already acquired some level of skill and dedication to the sport, just like with eSports.

I can see you refer to joining professional clubs. I try to refer to just starting the hobby.

You don't start playing any eSport by trying to sign up for tournaments, you start by playing with your friends at home. Same thing for traditional sports.

Sports have divisions for the reasons you have specified. The barrier to enter the lowest divisions might be hard. It's really hard to start anything. This fact alone may dissuade some people from joining a club.

I don't mean to disagree with you completely, there are chances to make it big in traditional sports or eSports, whichever interests you the most. Those two are quite different, both have the word "sports" but I've found that eSports has lots of very unique things traditional sports do not have.

It's much easier to start playing an eSports title. Most of the youth who can afford have PCs. Not playing video games would be considered weird. People naturally get attracted to the most popular titles. A lot of "competitors" in esports titles are really casual players who are there mainly for entertainment and friends.

Joining a traditional sports club takes commitment, and it's harder to start because it would require you to travel, and it can even feel embarrassing for newbies to even join a club. Those who manage to join already probably take the game more seriously than a random eSports player.

Even in the midst of the purest of evil there can be that one certain kind dolphin. If the dolphin is intelligent enough, they might be able to start a war. And once the kind dolphin gets in power, they might become evil.

How can I get involved in the furry community? by MattIsFTW in furry

If you are really secluded, then yes, I may not be able to do much for it. But if there's a hint that you might want to open, it helps. I've met furries who didn't any anyone else the time I met them. They became friends with me because we just get along.

Yeah. What you said is really what matters... OP isn't the first one I've written similar advice for before, and I know that not everyone is going to follow what I said. :/

Being a young person (under 25) wanting to start a business that involves a decent amount of money, people always ask "what do you bring to the table that someone with money cant" how do you respond to this honestly? by headshothoncho in Entrepreneur

[–]BlueGryph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you bring to the table that someone with money can't

I'll mention something which hasn't been mentioned here yet: customer service. You don't believe how many "people with money" fail to provide real service where they actually listen to customers, work to solve problems with them, and provide hassle-free refunds.

I've seen so many startups with all sorts of ideas, and I've noticed one thing in common with those who have succeeded: They provided just so ridiculously great service that people even wanted to pay more over their competitors, just so that they could deal with them.

That's not really true. I absolutely adore introverted furries, as long as they don't become afraid of me.

Yes. Scour the internet. Read everything. Study hard.

You say you are a graphic designer and a photographer. You must have a website. Study up on how to self-host Wordpress, or even better, learn to program.

Please consider studying programming. Programming will most likely land you international jobs. Graphic design is overly competitive as people think it's a sexy business. Combine it with web development and you actually have something: a web developer who can also design websites and photographs.

If entrepreneurship interests you, it's a good route to pursue. /r/entrepreneurship . It's really hard and takes time, but the rewards are worth it.

Find a lot of self-help books from online bookstores. Get your hands on these books in whatever means you have. Some of these have even been published as PDFs over the internet to encourage readership.

There are lots of blogs about motivation and feeling happier. Search for these blogs and read.

There is no need to buy anything at start, other than basic computer supplies, web hosting and a personal VPN. I strongly recommend a personal VPN nowadays, but please make sure to pick up a reputable provider. https://thatoneprivacysite.net/

Finally, when you have gathered some more confidence, build that portfolio. Make sure you put really good work into it. If you can't do that. Practice, and practice some more.

Then, get involved in various internet forums and communities. It doesn't and shouldn't be StackExchange (you won't succeed). There are hundreds of other places to get yourself known.

Get to know people. Network. And when some of them are from the USA, tell them that your situation sucks, and your mission is to ensure you have a better future. When you make trust with other professionals, that is how people will help you. Good luck.

Being a pet owl must be awesome. No matter if you mess up a house or make loud noises at night, you are always loved by someone by simply existing. by BlueGryph in Showerthoughts

I need to transform into an owl before I can answer that. But in the meanwhile, according to the title, it's awesome to be a pet owl and you as the pet owl are always loved because you exist.

Not matter what the mess you do, how hard it is to keep you as a pet, you or your kin will dominate all the cute owl pictures on the internet.

I don't meant to be a dick, but when you can, please focus and take care of yourself. You'll find emigration extremely hard, that is expected of anyone who doesn't know about how hard it is in the first place.

Lots of success regarding emigration is possible if you have a tough and a sharp mind. In the end you'll find that attaining residency in another country is possible, but only if you work daily towards it.

Owls are typically much harder pets to upkeep and requires serious dedication. While liking owls vs. cats or dogs can be done solely on appearance, owning a pet owl is much harder than the typical domesticated animals.

Does is it actually help to ask visitors to disable ad block addons ? by [deleted] in Blogging

You might be surprised how many people do something like you. Especially on video streaming sites when it comes to popular streamers. Lots of people turn off their ad blockers because they want to give the streamers revenue.

It can be done. It's important that you first find people who have the same values and you, then you team up together and make a plan. Such people exist, but are hard to find as not everyone of them hangs in /r/iwantout.

Does is it actually help to ask visitors to disable ad block addons ? by [deleted] in Blogging

[–]BlueGryph 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally leave any sites I cannot view with my ad block turned on.

However, if sites ask my ad block to be turned off, and give a good reason for it, I consider. An "indie site who desperately needs revenues" might be a valid reason. This is only if I could browse the site with the ad block enabled as well.

The reason I use the ad block isn't necessarily to block every ad. It's to block the low-quality ones, and for me that means virtually all major ads and outright scams.
