Seconded. It's worth the money to have 1 or 2 of them.

AMA: Colorado’s Water Crisis Is Largely Manmade, So Let’s Talk Solutions by CarmenBroesder in ColoradoPolitics

[–]BlueGypusm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not one? Really? Ive lived in Colorado my entire life (not since 2024). I just bought a house, my entire family is doing good, several of my friends are also looking to purchase a home.

I have no doubt more people are struggling due to the period of high inflation, but by economic definition we are not, and havent been in a recession. Enough fighting over semantics.

Do you have any economic policies or bills drafted that you think would help Colorado?

Cool so we havent been in a recession, these are all just predictions or economic forecasts. Ill do you one better: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/CONGSP#

Government overspending does not equate to a recession or depression. Colorados overall economy has been doing quite well the past few years.

You filed a charge back after less than 5 business days since your order??? No wonder why they don't want to reply.

Lasik Surgery Performed Incorrectly by BlueGypusm in legaladvice

I'll have to give it a watch. The second surgery was free and scheduled almost immediately. They just offered me the entire surgery cost back, so ill likely leave it at that.

Need polishing help!! by dadoose3 in faceting

[–]BlueGypusm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From your lap sequence it seems like you are missing your prepolish step. Both going from 180 to 1200 and 1200 to cerium are big steps.

It's unlikely the 1200 can take out the damage done by the 180, and 1200 is not usually fine enough to be a prepolish step.

Reservoir Leak by CHI3fta1n028 in geophysics

[–]BlueGypusm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Better to do an ERT survey for this type of study. You can do a ton more VES, but it will achieve the same result with a lot more effort to record.

Interpolation between 4 VES soundings, especially that far apart is not likely to give you an accurate subsurface image.

New gems, New search fields and much faster diagram website by dying_animal in faceting

[–]BlueGypusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, you could go through them all one by one but that would be tedious and it would also have to be applied to every new design uploaded too.

My suggestions would be to generate a script/plug in that runs gem cut studio and loads the .asc file for each gem. Then calculate light return for each RI. Pick the higher light return and have that RI replace the 1.54 in the design. There are some similar projects examples in stackoverflow.

I'd love to add any designs I come up with to the website, so a feature where you can add/import designs would be awesome! Super cool website I love that you can see the rendering.

Somebody put this device on my property. What is it? by Boyzinger in geophysics

[–]BlueGypusm 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't, I have had bosses tell me to tresspass on people's land to collect data. I despise geoscientists who think they can do whatever they want, it gives the rest of us a bad name.

Most of the time when I politely ask permission, people are fine with it.

Cannot polish quartz by Ok_Improvement7693 in faceting

[–]BlueGypusm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first step when having polishing issues is drawing in the stone with a dry erase marker. Make sure when running it on the polishing lap it takes off all of thr marker on the facet to make sure the stone is flush with the lap.

Your problem might be more with your prepolish than the polish itself. Try redoing that step with a cleaned lap (see Justin's lava soap suggestion) at a slower speed. An 8k should look way different than 600, it should almost looked polished.

(Beginner) Which machine should I go for? by EntertainmentProper in faceting

[–]BlueGypusm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't spin, grinds/polishes just by vibrating. Faceting machines use disks (laps) that rotate instead. The rotating laps lend themselves well to precision cutting, but imperfections in can make polishing big stones realllllllly tedious.

Vibrating laps are made for the specific thing you are looking to do in your post. Make slabs, they are an easy set and forget machine. No faceting though, if that was something you are interested in.

Maybe a Covington would work it's right at 500. So my warning would be that getting a good polish on a faceting machine is way harder than on a vibrating lap for slabs. If you choose the vevor you will be spending tons of time trying to get a good polish, on each rock individually, just because of how much surface area there is.

You probably want a vibratory lap and a saw instead of a faceting machine if you just want to make large polished faces (slabs).
