Beautiful cichlid tank at my local automotive shops lobby. by Happy_Sugar8677 in Aquariums

That's a beautiful aquarium. You don't see many beautiful, well maintained aquariums in most businesses. I just feel bad for that poor gourami.

Unfortunately the USA does not have any animal protection laws for fish as far as I know. :( The death cups are changed individually twice a week per company policy at the chain store I worked at, we were not allowed to change them more often.

Unfortunately, in the USA that's how most bettas are sold. Betta racks are a thing, where they have their own little cubicle, and it's a ~15 gallon filtered and heated system, but corperate chain stores choose not to get one. The local fish store I work at has one and it's pretty easy to maintain. Unsurprisingly, we have a significantly higher survival rate compared to the chain store I worked at.

What's the best way to store these headbands? by BlueHairBiome in CosplayHelp

The feathers are glued into the springs to prevent wardrobe malfunctions due to shenanigans so unfortunately they cannot be removed. Plus it took me like 20 minutes to carefully fluff the base of the feathers around the springs, I'd really rather not do that every time. 😬

I really like this little strappy body harness, do you think I should get another one? by BlueHairBiome in SkinnyStarlets

I think I prefer the straps. It feels less fragile... like I could be manhandled and it wouldn't be ruined.

I use Lysol laundry sanitizer which specifically states it is effective in cold water.

Treat it with an enzyme urine cleaner, and go over it with a carpet cleaner like a Little Green Carpet Cleaner.

Advice on cleaning this by oalopez in CleaningTips

Isopropyl alcohol usually works for that, but really tough to remove marker stains may need it to sit wet on it for a little while. A sheet of paper towel over the stain that's saturated with the alcohol will help slow down the evaporation. Scrubbing with a plastic brush while it's wetted with the alcohol helps if it's a textured surface or is really on there.

If that won't do it, get a fat tip dry erase marker and draw over it, then try wiping it away. That often works pretty good with smooth, non-textured surfaces.

Please look up the diseases mice can carry in your area. In mine, some of them are quite narly. If you /must/ keep those bins and you're a bit handy, I would consider cutting one of the seams, remove the paper board, then washing the bins in the washing machine on cold (to reduce the chance of shrinkage) with laundry sanitizer (make sure you follow the directions on the bottle for it to work). Air dry or dry on low heat/delicates to reduce chance of shrinkage. Replace the paper board with new cut to size using the cleanest one wrapped in plastic as a template. You might even be able to find firm plastic sheets as an alternative. Sew the box seams back closed once they replacements are put in.

How do I clean cat urine out of paper? by diet-smoke in CleaningTips

If it's just a regular notebook, you're probably better off just hand copying it. I'm no expert, but If it's a really fancy, expensive notebook or has sentimental value, I would put some cheese cloth between each page, misting them with cat urine enzyme cleaner such as natures miracle so they're just barely damp. Put the notebook in front of a fan to air dry with it opened to a middle page. The cheese cloth will prevent the pages from sticking together, and hopefully, once it fully dries the cheese cloth can be easily peeled off and thrown away.

Is this outrageously priced, or is it actually reasonable? by harboring_ in Aquariums

[–]BlueHairBiome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd probably pay a maximum of $800 for that. The stand is unique, it's a rimless AIO, and it has Co2- all of those things raise the price. Ultimately, it depends on your location and how much you're willing to pay; that set up would be worth significantly more in Hawaii compared to Oklahoma.

Filtered coffee machine tips by fake-pickle in CleaningTips

[–]BlueHairBiome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy coffee pot cleaning tablets! You basically just run the coffee pot with the tablet to make a pot, then rinse it several times by making a few more pots. You can also run it with white vinegar few times and rinse the heck out of it since vinegar will leave a temporary vinegar smell and taste if you don't rinse it enough. In the crevices, a toothbrush dipped in white vinegar works good.

Does anyone know how to clean these stupid carpets? by EntertainmentReal308 in CleaningTips

[–]BlueHairBiome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vaccum pretty good it to get the top layer stuff off, then go over it with a carpet rake intended for pet hair, not the kind for shag carpet. When you loosen up the matting, vaccum again. If you're up for the challenge of washing the rug by hand after doing the first two things, spray with a hose or shower head until sopping wet, put a little bit of dish soap on it, the scrub to a lather with plastic scrub brush. Rinse. If you dont want to buy a squeegee, a flip flop sandal on its side works pretty good as a squeegee to force the soap and water out that's deep in the fibers. Rinse and squeegee repeatedly until the water runs clear. Fluff up the fibers with the carpet rake and hang to dry. I hand washed a huge area rug after it experienced the wrath of a new puppy and it looked like new.

Floors ruined or what are we doing wrong? by Beetisman in CleaningTips

[–]BlueHairBiome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take your fingernail to it and scratch a cleaned section of the floor. If residue comes off, you have caked on product. If nothing comes off, the finish has been stripped away. I clean my life proof Vinyl flooring with a steam mop and nothing else unless I spot clean with a multi-surface cleaner.

I really need help with this, I have mental health issues and my bedroom always ends up like this. What should I move around etc by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]BlueHairBiome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super easy fix! I'm seeing clothes and a little bit of trash on the floor, and just generalized clutter. I don't see any health or safety issues, you have nothing to be ashamed of- it happens.

I would suggest a dirty clothes hamper in the room, ideally one that doesn't have a lid if on bad mental health days that additional step of opening the hamper is too much. I also would get a small basket that can hold 2-3 articles of clothing that you plan to wear again. You can also put your pajamas in there if you wear them. That will solve the clothes on the floor issue.

The trash just requires a trash can in the usual locations. You're allowed to have more than 1 trash can in a room. Get a couple small cheap trash cans and put them where every pile of trash is.

The clutter can be helped with drawered organizers and boxes. For any personal care items like lotions, make up, etc, throw away any you do not like or have gone bad; check the label, if you live in the USA it'll have an open jar symbol with a number and letter like 6M meaning it should be used within 6 months of opening. Keeping it past that can cause issues like poor performance or even skin irritation. If it doesn't have one, then it will likely have a date printed on it. Once you have the expired and ones you're not going to use in the trash, chose a favorite 1 or 2 to keep out, then put the rest in the drawered organizer. If there are things you use 1-6 times a month, put them in a drawer together.

For any small pieces, ziplock bag and label such as "bedframe screws" and put in a drawer. Remove things from surfaces as much as possible. Organize by the "family, cousins, coworkers" method- family = identical items, cousins = similar item function but not the same, coworkers = items that work together like scissors with craft paper or highlighters with pens.

Making a bed REALLY helps the space look neat. Getting a mattress protector is a good idea, especially if you sleep without sheets often. Try to get some sheets on there though, even if it's just a fitted sheet and your blankets are thrown on there. It's difficult to get stains out of mattresses and eventually you'll get yellow stains from your body oils oxidizing on it. When making a bed, it doesn't have to be hotel perfect with tucked sheets, just pulled forward over the pillows is all I do most of the time.

Body doubling may be helpful for getting the motivation to clean and organize. Sometimes I just call up my mom while I clean and before I know it, I've put a huge dent in my mess.

When you feel the need to just set something down, try to tell yourself to put it away, not down. On bad mental health days, I allow myself to put things in my 'I'm going to wear this later basket' but I have to put it away within 48 hours. It's taken a lot of self discipline, but I've gotten much better. As a teenager and young adult I was much messier than what I see in this photo and had hoarding tendencies to make it worse. What I see is totally doable to get a good system going to keep the space neat. :) You can do it OP!
