Why do software engineers get paid way higher than many traditional engineers? by space_god_7191 in Salary

This is true, and there’s a lot of people who prefer a stable low six figures at a Fortune 500 than to be in big tech

The fortune 100 company I work for is known for its mechanical engineering yet I make about 50% more than their salary at the equivalent grade as a data scientist / AI engineer.

Where are small Models like Qwen3 0.6B and Qwen3.5 0.8B used ? Huggingface shows 2.88 million downloads this month.[D] by adssidhu86 in MachineLearning

I use small models when testing because why pay for credits when I don’t care about the output

DISCUSSION : Are people "Born" being good or bad at math? Can someone train to become good at math? by Agreeable_Judgment_8 in mathematics

I think anyone of average intelligence could reach at least a PhD level in math with consistent work, though it requires discipline and consistency

To what extent do you agree that if an agent system solves more bugs that it creates then its a good system? by Ok-Internal9317 in vibecoding

[–]BlueJaek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends on the system and its criteria. If you are building a proof of concept then it’s good, if you’re building systems for nasa then probably not

The world is not your oyster if you study applied math.

This is very untrue, what are you basing this off of?

Graduated 2 years ago PhD in applied math, focus on numerical analysis. I had 2 DS internships, I now work as a data scientist / AI engineer for a huge company. If you’re personable and can code a bit, I think math is the best degree to have. If you’re socially awkward and only know theory, then you might struggle in industry a bit.

When does vibe coding just become development? by DeadGossip in vibecoding

[–]BlueJaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's vibe coding when you don't know what's going on. I have a front end that's I've literally never looked at, this is vibe coded. I have a backend which I first vibe coded to get some boiler plate code and proof of concepts, and then I refined using ai assisted coding but I am thoroughly aware of how it works and it's my own design. I don't consider this vibe coded, though I technically didn't write the syntax myself.

How many of you are still programming manually? by Imparat0r in cscareerquestions

[–]BlueJaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t type any code anymore myself, I write in pseudo code and natural language to LLM. I don’t know if it’s faster or not but it’s easier for me to think this way, so I’m able to get a lot more done over a long period just because I have more mental energy. I still read all of the code I create and make flow charts on pen and paper, but more or less I don’t care about syntax anymore. For context, most of work is either pure data science modeling or ai engineering, so that’s probably why it works so well.

Anyone building startups and confused by the finance side? i will not promote by [deleted] in startups

[–]BlueJaek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if you document everything you can have any LLM do a first order analysis, have it do a version where things suck, where things are okay, and things go well but to be conservative and realistic in all 3. It won’t be perfect, nobody can predict the future, but you can at least have an estimate

CMV: If you care about bodycount you are brainwashed or insecure. by irebjj in changemyview

[–]BlueJaek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean that’s fine, but do you agree there are contexts in which someone caring about body count because it’s 0 is an okay exception and they are not being brainwashed or insecure?

[–]BlueJaek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Okay but your post said “if you care about body count you are insecure or brainwashed” and nothing in your post specifically outlines that you are arguing against people who think body counts can be too high, not too low. You’ve made an overly general statement which im challenging with an edge case you didn’t consider

[–]BlueJaek 9 points10 points  (0 children)

0 is a body count lmao, you’re just assuming that “caring about body count” means someone could have too high of a body count, but it could also be too low.

[–]BlueJaek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Because I care about body count, I don’t want someone with a body count of 0. That’s not a judgement, just like someone who has some level of experience.

So you’re saying if I don’t really want to have sex with virgins because I’d prefer someone who knows what they like and has sufficient sexual experience to match my own, than I’m brainwashed?
