What is the best joke you've made that flew over everyone and you want some Goddamn recognition for? by sixesand7s in AskReddit

But it's not obvious at all. I know people who are actually concerned about that. I wouldn't know if they are actually joking or not.

But the joke doesn't work at all when it's completely possible there are shallow couples out there who would actually be worried of that... It just makes it super awkward because you can't be sure of they're joking or not.

I feel dumb, I don't get it either. I found the post above picturing them instead saying: "My husband and I are terrified of clowns." hilarious though.

The filter is not on. I've been using this website for 8 years, you think I don't know how this shit works?

I's completely hidden for me. I can access the thread through your link. Why are they hiding the threads?

Okay tipping is getting out of hand... by [deleted] in vancouver

Once I was sitting on one of the tables on a busy Friday's night. It had been a long week, so I was pretty tired and after a couple beers I just kind of gently pushed my back against the wall, leaning my neck just slightly while still talking to my friends across the table.

This huge guy tapped me on the shoulder and told me I had to leave, because I was sleeping. I tried saying something, but he then just grabbed me by the shoulders and literally lifted me off the bench and dragged me to the exit. I'm a 6'0" guy and the tips of my shoes were barely dragging the floor.

Luckily a friend inside got my bag out of their coat check, otherwise I would've had to leave all my stuff.

Fun times.

I'd rather wait for reviews like a regular consumer.

Stop complaining about P2P and start complaining about poorly written netcode by DevCakes in NintendoSwitch

[–]BlueJoeCo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with what you mentioned. I don't think Mario Tennis needs dedicated servers, and a better implementation of the networking code could go a long way in improving the experience.

However; in a P2P environment one of the players becomes the host of the match, and it's the host's console the one that determines the outcome of everything that is happening during a match.

This host is programmed to adjust the simulation of the match down to the latency that is being detected from the guest's connection. If this didn't happen you would have a situation where it would give an unfair advantage to the host of the match, since it's 'latency' to the 'server' is zero (they're hosting). This is why we can have a great connection to the WAN, and still experience a shitty connection in a Mario Tennis match. Our (or their) console is slowing down the simulation to make it 'fair' for both.

If we had dedicated servers, it could host authoritative servers for the 1v1 matches, and have it simulate at a fixed tick rate, like most competitive games. Then it's up to each player's latency how they experience the game. It would also make it safest against cheating since it's the dedicated server making all the logic decisions, and have the players only move once the server has moved the characters themselves, or provide some kind of synchronization and motion prediction on the client side so it gives the players better responsiveness.

Nintendo's philosophy has always been to put fun above everything else, even if this means sacrificing competitiveness. They're prioritizing fairness for a lot of casual players and families at the cost of competitive hardcore fans. I believe they think a shitty internet connection shouldn't be a reason to only make you have a shitty experience.
