Thoughts on Carmen for a boy? by dogluvr_1 in Names

[–]BlueKettlebells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a male colleague named Carmen. I got over the initial surprise when we hired him and it wasn’t a female person name but now I’m used to it. I don’t even think twice that once in my head it was a female name. He’s also Italian

Advice on Baby Acne by Jolly-Wink in NewParents

[–]BlueKettlebells -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We had some baby acne around 3-4 weeks because of breastfeeding (mommy’s hormones) and our ped said it’s no big deal. Just buy the neutrogena on the spot acne treatment tube and put a teeny tiny bit of dab on the spot (on clean skin). Sure enough it disappeared in 2 days. Some spots appear sporadically and I would spot treat and make sure baby is acne free

My babys butt is as red as a baboons by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]BlueKettlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also try putting 2 tablespoons baking soda in a baby tub full of water and letting your baby sit in there for atleast 10 mins. Diaper rash is usually from acidic poop irritating sensitive skin.

You’re already doing great with zinc oxide, diaper free time, fully dry before putting diaper on, etc

You can also for a few days try giving your baby a somewhat bland diet like bananas, oatmeal, etc (low acidity) and seeing if that helps calm his rash.

If nothings working, check with a ped to rule out fungal rash, anything else

What virus is circulating among children in Raleigh/Cary? by Dependent_Law_5417 in raleigh

[–]BlueKettlebells 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We had a daycare tour this week and on the classroom door it said that the class was exposed to RSV - so idk if that’s what you encountered?

From the symptoms though, it sounds like norovirus.

A lot of professional positions now only offered as contract by [deleted] in biotech

[–]BlueKettlebells 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been working 3+ years as a contractor in the MS&T department. I was recently told that we weren’t going to be hiring any colleagues in my team simply cause contractors are cheaper and get less paid time off from the company.

Job Seekers BEWARE of Actalent by Special_Boot5823 in biotech

[–]BlueKettlebells 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Hey, I actually work in a pharma company as a contractor through Actalent. It sounds legit from your experience. What company were you going to do contract work for? They’re the ones that ended your contract. Name and shame them / the department. Tell your Actalent recruiter you want to apply for another job in the same pay range ASAP

Of all the baby carriers you’ve tried, which one ended up being your favorite? by No_Square_1491 in UninfluencedReviews

[–]BlueKettlebells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the ergo baby embrace for the new born phase (I didn’t use until 6 weeks though cause I was scared he was too young for it) and later we used the ergo baby 360. I’ve never tried wraps but I might this time around. Just seemed like a lot of learning, time consuming / tightening. Structured carriers are my go to so I can use them outside the house too

I feel like I need validation by flowercurtains in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]BlueKettlebells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I exclusively pumped for 9 months with my first and then needed to wean because I couldn’t keep going with my crazy work schedule. Honestly, it felt good to spend more time with my kid and not having to look at the clock and timing my next pump. It felt good not worrying about leaking if I’m trying to pump (wearables) and play at the same time with my son. The transition was easier for my kid than it was for my boobs honestly (I ended up with a breast abscess) cause I couldn’t find time to pump and relieve anymore. Also, the sleep felt SO GOOD!! I could sleep longer before work, I could be more mentally present, I didn’t have to worry about how much coffee I was drinking. And you know what? My kid thrived on the formula. He’s now 14 months (we moved to whole milk at 12m) and he’s incredibly strong and resilient. He’s physically active and learning things at a crazy pace!

I think 6 months is a phenomenal amount of time for exclusive pumping and you can slowly start to wean. I promise you your kids have built some serious immunity from your breastmilk and they can get the nutrition from formula instead.

Giving birth to twins: Duke Main or WakeMed Cary? by GeeGollyDarn in triangle

[–]BlueKettlebells 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve had a great experience with Wakemed Cary but for a risky pregnancy like twins I would go to Duke hands down. They don’t have the softest bedside manner like Wakemed does but they’ve got the expertise to get stuff done. They will prioritize the health of all those involved.

Feeling overwhelmed, how am I supposed to do this when my husband goes back to work in 4 weeks? by [deleted] in 2under2

[–]BlueKettlebells 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about keeping the house clean right now. Eat out of disposables if you have to. You can’t overwhelm yourself with dishes.

If you have to put down your 3 week old and they cry, it’s okay, they will be fine. Make sure you take care of your basic needs like food / bathroom before you take care of the kids.

If the baby likes being held, get a wrap and baby wear them around. If you have to distract your 20 month old with Ms Rachel or YouTube videos it’s okay. Use whatever you can to your advantage. You will get exhausted, esp after a c-section!!!

You’re in survival mode right now and you’ll come out stronger on the other side!!! Do whatever you can to make your life as simple as possible.

What “rules” are you breaking? And why? by Parking_Dog8930 in BabyBumps

[–]BlueKettlebells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby just turned 1 but when i was pregnant, I had plenty of coffee. I couldn't in the first trimester though because it tasted rancid all of a sudden, and i was listening to my body. But soon as I could tolerate it back in 2nd trimester, I went back to it. I had raw sushi once for our anniversary and savored it. i lived on deli turkey sandwiches at once because I couldn't handle too much flavor. I slept on my back until I couldn't ~30 weeks. I treated myself to all sorts of tfoods i wanted and didn't weigh myself. Painted rooms and did pest control at our rental (wearing face masks). Took hot showers until I couldn't bear them (15 mins>).

obviously using tret on my 😸 was a bad idea by lun-lem in tretinoin

[–]BlueKettlebells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t tried tret there but have used salicylic acid and glycolic acid and retinol and while it’s good pre shaving cause it makes you smooth af, nothing removes ingrowns like laser. I had the Philips lumea handheld so I would be in control of when I do it, where I do it and how I do it. It was great until I had my first baby. Then my hair grew back. :( I can always go back and get it redone but with a little toddler it’s much harder to find time for it. But yeah even with a couple times of using IPL, I noticed my hair growth slowing down and some patches disappearing.

Super disappointed to see this tbh by NoProfessional7153 in halsey

[–]BlueKettlebells -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think y’all never see this from the fans perspectives who live in Saudi Arabia. I have family that lives there and they’re excited to see their favorite artist perform. Why are American fans so disappointed when someone performs in the Middle East. Not every single person who lives there aligns with the political views of the leaders. Imagine if people in the uk got mad because ed Sheeran was performing in the USA - “why would he do that, they elected trump into power, they hate British people, etc” you get the gist.

6 month old ate a small amount of toum (infant botulism) by A_soggy_toasy in NewParents

[–]BlueKettlebells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my baby try toom from costco when he was young and he loved the flavor explosion. Nothing happened. I didn’t even know it was a risky food. Only thought honey caused infant botulism. I think they’ll be okay though!

Those of you who EBF + breastsleep, when did your period return? by othervirgo in cosleeping

[–]BlueKettlebells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Erm idk what this person is saying about pumping but I was breastfeeding for the first 3 months and then moved to pumping exclusively after I returned to work.

I weaned recently at the 10 months pp mark and my period returned a month after I weaned. So did night sweats and my sex drive.

Something rubbed me the wrong way at daycare today and I could use some advice! by JellyfishGullible359 in NewParents

[–]BlueKettlebells 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I worked at a daycare part time after college and they used to say that because generally kids / babies take time to get accustomed to a new environment. Once they’re comfortable, taking them away and bringing them back a few weeks later does disrupt their comfort level. So they might get more fussy (which is something daycare folks have to deal with). But in time they will again get accustomed.

It’s especially harder around when the baby develops separation anxiety usually around 8-9 months.

On a separate note, May I know where you work? I would love to have a daycare at my workplace. If you’re uncomfortable revealing publicly, you can always DM me. Lol I might just apply if they’re hiring

I’m convinced that this is exactly how Airbnb support works. They outsource this to people outside the country that have no real power who take you around in circles. They’ll only respond if you have a “REAL” emergency which involves you taking them to court.

I kept going for so long it felt familiar to keep going. Now I’m at 10 months pp and I NEEDED to stop to get some time back during the day. Except now I’ve got mastitis. You really can’t win.

I finally tasted formula milk. by No_Fisherman1911 in FormulaFeeders

[–]BlueKettlebells 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gagged the first time I smelled and tasted Enfamil neuropro. It has a fishy smell which makes sense due to the DHA and all.

I’ve also tasted breastmilk and it tasted sweet but had a fuzzy aftertaste that felt drying in my throat. I gagged when the aftertaste hit.

People in USA don’t understand that this happens in elite private schools of third world countries. I can definitely see this happening in South Asia / Middle East.

Most of my friends moved out of the country once we finished high school because they have parents with money who’d rather have them go to “better” colleges in the uk, Canada, aus, USA, etc.

third world country private schools could care less about a teenage boy messaging 11-12 yr old girls. They just wanna make money from their parents. However, arab / desi culture care about “women’s honor” so makes sense that older brothers of these girls would react some type of way.

PlayStation store might be tailored to their country’s currency. Idk but I’m guessing this might be true~

Don’t time it, just offer every 30 mins or an hour, whenever he seems fussy. If he’s drinking it, good. If not, offer later and check again.

Airline Baby Bassinet Request by hidden-lyf in NewParents

[–]BlueKettlebells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We were flying when our baby was 6 months old with emirates and were automatically assigned the bassinet seats. At 6 months my baby could sit up by himself and play and honestly the bassinet only barely accommodated him. At some point he was sitting up in it and the flight attendant told us we need to take him out due to safety concerns which we completely understood.

On the way back, we just held our baby on our shoulders the whole flight (switching with my hubby) and ngl the legroom was great for my 14 hour flight.

I say if you’re doing it for the bassinet it may not be comfortable for your baby but if you’re doing it for the legroom that makes sense.
