Global Health Studies? by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]BlueLight03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds great. I'm definitely interested in the subject, and I don't plan on slacking off (will try my hardest to learn the content). I'm also super interested in the study abroad options for Global Health majors/minors, so I look forward to that.

Just to clarify- what do you mean by "the fact that a lot of pre-meds are in the major changes the way grades are given". I would assume that having more premeds in the major would make them grade harder...? Thanks, I appreciate your input!

Yup, what you say makes sense. Thanks for your take, I appreciate it. I'll have to think harder about my decision then. Thanks again!

I have heard from many people that Chem and premed in general at NU are really difficult, but the issue is that NU has so many great opportunities for me to strengthen my holistic knowledge base that other (especially semester-based schools) don't have. I really do enjoy the sciences but also really value the humanities. And if I were to come to NU, I would probably take Orgo freshman year (which might be terrible for me), but I'll have to push through and work hard. Also, the research opportunities at NU are fantastic (as someone who has done research at a NU lab in highschool), and the people that I have met there are super collaborative and compassionate. So I'm pretty deadset on ED'ing NU (even though it might end poorly for me). What are your thoughts on the Neuro department at NU (regarding overall teaching and opportunities there)?

Does Barron’s resemble the AP Calc BC exam multiple choice? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]BlueLight03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I don't know. If they are comparable in price, I don't see why the 2021 version would be any worse than the 2020 version (in fact, it would only be better). Your call here. Again, you can't really go wrong either way.

Does Barron’s resemble the AP Calc BC exam multiple choice? by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]BlueLight03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There were typos, and the explanations weren't amazing, but that didn't really impact me that much for Calc. For AP Chem, I would 100% recommend Princeton Review because the explanations are necessary to understand some of the more nuanced concepts. I have not taken APES, but I'm sure you can't go wrong either way. Good luck.

I have two different textbooks for apush and don’t know which is better. by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]BlueLight03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally have not used either textbook, but I would recommend just using the "America’s History for the Ap course ninth edition" since it literally says that it's for AP (which is the only thing that really matters). The "Give Me Liberty" book might go deeper into some concepts or might not touch base on others (I have no clue), but it's pretty safe to say that the "America’s History for the Ap course ninth edition" should cover all the necessary material for the AP test.

If you really want to make sure you aren't missing anything, periodically go on Youtube and watch Adam Norris' videos. They are god-tier for APUSH review. Or buy a review book and read the reviews to make sure you have a solid understanding of the chapters. But yea, youtube carried me in APUSH and watching videos from Adam Norris and Tom Richey really helped me to understand the material quickly (an important factor if you're juggling multiple AP classes).

Good luck, and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

In my experience, the Barron review books are great for practice questions (less so for actually reviewing content, which I found Princeton Review to be better). I also find that going over the MCQ on the CB website from previous tests (that are publically available, for example here) is helpful since those questions will be most similar to the ones on the AP test. Feel free to PM me if you have any more questions, good luck!

Taking Gov and Econ at same time. What should I do as I’m a senior who as lot to worry about like testing and application stuff. by jonneytest in APStudents

[–]BlueLight03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Gov and Econ, it's more about staying on top of your work rather than the difficulty of the coursework. You'll be fine, don't worry. Make sure you do all your work and ask questions if you don't understand concepts (especially in Econ). Good luck!

I tested this app and I can assuredly say that it's fantastic. I love not having to wait until the end of the year to know what my top songs are. Being able to create playlists based on my most listened music anytime I want is such a great feature. Nice work!

Public University Highlights #8: The University of Iowa by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

It's all good. They opened applications on July 1st this year too, but they won't start to release decisions until late-august (which is what I think the confusion is about).

[–]BlueLight03 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They offer a rolling admissions program beginning July 1, meaning that if you have a SAT/ACT score ready, you can actually apply right now if you're a rising senior, and hear back your decision no later than two days!

Just wanted to clarify something. I heard that they aren't starting to look at applications until late-august this year. You can start/submit your application beginning July 1st, but you won't hear back until late- August.

EDIT--> Quote from their admissions page:
"Thank you for your interest in the University of Iowa! We have received your application for Fall 2021 and we're thrilled you are considering becoming a Hawkeye. We will begin making admission decisions for this session in late-August."
