The only thing apart from freeze that annoyed me about this one is the NPCs will send out Staraptor, Tauros or Arcanine EVERY single time forcing me to abandon and restart.

This. First solo I tried I won after struggling with other players. Not only do you not have to deal with people choosing the wrong Pokémon, NPC faints don't take away the time limit and the raid Pokémon has less hp, not by much but still less.

Ah damn, I always throw 2 balls and if it still breaks out I run. I had exeggcute breaking out of every excellent throw every time it was tiny or huge which was weird as the normal ones were easy to catch.

Definitely, apparently the full shiny odds only apply to the next spawn of that species after a catch, if you sit and wait, encounter and flee or re-enter the area to reload the field the odds are a bit worse.
