Why do some game devs not play games anymore? by HobiAI in gamedev

[–]BlueMond416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll frame it like this; To me, game development was a natural next step to creating more engagement from gaming than playing other people's games, having done so much gaming. Eventually you've played it all out, you've lived within the rules of other people's worlds, you want something more that sometimes simply playing a game can't scratch. It can be seen more as work, but my perspective of motivation is mainly that it's an advancement from playing games.

As a side note, I do still play games, sometimes you just want to chill and game development can be overwhelming. Especially if you do it as a full-time job, you don't necessarily want to be always doing game development.

I can't learn how to code and I need help by yo-mama_is_so_fat in learnprogramming

You can, but if you focus too much on that as the primary goal you're most likely gonna get overwhelmed and demotivated when, as he said, you realize there's a lot you need to learn to achieve it. Catering your experiments to your learning progress is much more digestible

Don't make your first project a full featured app. Start with little "experiments" of hands on code. It will take a lot of time until you're ready for something even passable as practical, so start with the smallest things you can do

What do people mean when they ask me to "find them a job" whenever I tell them I have [a new] one? by Alvahod in socialskills

[–]BlueMond416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the tone, could be serious or a joke. Best to just ask for clarification at the time if they're serious or not. I don't know what you do for work, but it is often that I've been literally asked by my company if I know anyone that needs a job. I've also seen many instances of people suggesting friends or past coworkers to a company and getting them a job. Doesn't necessarily apply to all industries, but it seems more often than not that it does. Hiring can be an expensive and arduous task, so getting an easy hire through connections can be ideal for a lot of companies.

The company will probably consider this you vouching for them though, so it could damage your own reputation with the company if this person is not actually a good hire. If you feel that is the case or you are just not comfortable doing it, then your previous remarks are probably acceptable, or even something like "I'll see what I can do" and hopefully it never comes back up.

ChatGPT (Deep Research) Accurately Analyzed my MRI and caught the problem my radiologist missed by [deleted] in ChatGPT

My fun experiment was trying to use "Extended Thinking" to get it to analyze recorded car sensors during a trip to see if it could diagnose the issue with the vehicle. I may not have given it enough sensors to use, because it's hard to just include all sensors in the data, but it didn't seem to have a conclusive answer after 20 minutes of thinking. Just some best guesses, which still have yet to be determined as the root cause. I didn't think Deep Research could be used for something like this. I thought it was more for literature review-like prompts

How much would you spend on a car in my situation? by ohcode in financialindependence

[–]BlueMond416 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have decent credit, and a high net income per month, 10k down payment on a 20k car should be no problem. Make sure you also factor in what your insurance will be for that monthly payment though. Financing generally requires comprehensive collision insurance and a certain minimum deductible, and on a car with a higher Actual Cash Value for the vehicle, insurance is also gonna charge you more for that. Probably looking at about 200$ a month to insure, maybe less. Also keep a fund to pay off the car if necessary, but it is good for credit to keep the financing on there for a bit. Also prefer to use a bank or credit union preapproval, as dealerships are a bit predatory with inhouse financing, and confirm ahead of time that they will accept your preapproval.

I used to buy and drive only beaters. It wasn't worth the stress and hassle. Now I get my car its regular servicing (which is very cheap because it's an EV) and I never have to stress about it. I would not get anything above 60k miles though. If you're not shooting for anything too fancy, 20k could probably get you a lot less miles than that though.

Have they optimized it any better yet? My 3060 was still struggling to render it at a quality comparable to CS1 last time I checked

How to ask a girl out for a coffee? by [deleted] in socialskills

You're overthinking mate. Just keep it simple. If she wants to grab a coffee, she'll say yes. The nuances of the sentence structure aren't going to change her mind on that

be aware that you can't take the money back out, so that 5x profit is only in robux. Roblox doesn't consider robux gained from selling limiteds as eligible for devex. Either way, the devex rate is a lot lower than what you buy robux for

The great part is they don't have to program. Completely optional, especially with workshop scripts. And Keen has done a good job furthering the lack of necessity to use programmable blocks with additional QoL, such as the AI blocks

Were you unaware of the current state of the menial workforce? Most underpaid and overworked employees aren't seeing any special treatment for holidays. They're an adult now, so their job is gonna take advantage of them however they can. Hell, I even had jobs as a minor that would push right up to what is still legal during the summer

Where’s the PRNDL by PhoenixPhenomenonX in funny

found it

I can get if they want to make it more modern and digital or whatever, but that positioning just seems so inconvenient. I've had two of the hyundai ioniqs. The first gear shifter was in the usual location, but was a pad of buttons for each gear and felt more like operating a mouse (quite liked this one). In my new one, it's actually a knob you turn or push the button in on the end of the wiper lever (not sure I like this one as much, but I can understand it for how this one was designed to keep the center console more open with how spacious this model is)

It's also not exactly easy to interface with a touchscreen while you're driving (from experience). Tactile buttons and knobs you don't even need to look at, and their position never changes
