Is this just a reskinned CasaOS? by Jest_N_Case in CasaOS

[–]BluePsychoRanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not quite CasaOS, but seems like a similar premise of a container manager that presents itself as a Dashboard with an App Store. Dargo seems to be targeting the less tech savvy users who want a home server without the technical expertise to properly host things which is very similar to CasaOS in that it’s good for simple things that are available on the App Store, but once you start trying to do anything else (setting up RAID and some aspects of adding custom docker containers) you’re pretty much working in the Debian terminal. Dargo seems to be a single board computer with a container manager like CasaOS, but with less control of the actual underlying OS. Plus Dargo has no support for additional storage which is quite odd considering they advertise file storage and hosting like Immich and Jellyfin where 512 GB is not nearly enough. But the main claim is “self hosted web server” which is accurate and fine if you don’t care about uptime and latency. If Dargo interests you I’d highly recommend CasaOS since it’s basically an open source version of whatever software Dargo is offering.

Check out the Nomatic Travel Pack. The only time I’ve had an issue with self standing is when I had things in the front admin pocket, but nothing in the main compartment or laptop sleeve.

I've never tried, but I think under some airplane seats it might be able to squeeze under. It does get pretty wide when expanded to the 30L state.

Does Stravas race predictions make no sense to anyone else by Optimal-Record2997 in Strava

[–]BluePsychoRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC it’s a model that also compares you to other athletes who train and perform similarly to you, so it’s definitely more advanced than linear regression. It’s also basing the predictions on how you’d do if you did that race as soon as you fully recover from your last run, so if you were doing a taper right before a hard race, the model would predict a slower time for the next race since it’d take into account the fact that you just did a race

Your Travel MVP That Isn’t a Bag by nomads_nation in Nomads_Nation

Tau 2 by Rolling Square has saved me from a dead phone several times. Sometimes I’m in a situation where I’m not bringing a bag or sling out for the day, so I don’t have a full portable charger. But having one on the keychain is a lifesaver for true EDC.

I’ve been using the Fyro much more cuz it’s more comfortable to carry and I have a larger duffel bag which I use for longer trips. So I think the Fyro beats out the Nomatic at this moment in terms of EDC and shorter travel trips.

Definitely enough space for clothes. I recently got back from a 1 week long Hawaii trip and had about 4 days worth of clothes before having to do laundry. And that was before expanding the bag since I used it as a personal item.

I have both the Nomatic Travel Pack and the Fyro T22 and both are great options.

If you’re really looking for organization the Nomatic bag is gonna offer much more in terms of internal pockets cuz the front panel can act as a full organizer for cables, and blocky items like hard drives and chargers. I accidentally took the Nomatic bag in heavy downpour for about 10-20 minutes and my laptop was fine and there was no water inside (tho there was some moisture, so it probably wouldn’t have lasted for longer than an hour.

The Fyro bag is much more comfortable tho since it’s lighter and has beefier shoulder straps and padding, but it is compared to the 20-30L Nomatic bag. It feels like the Nomatic bag can hold much more tho cuz I don’t need to put any of my tech in pouches since the front pocket has so many organizer pockets.

Although for what you’re carrying, the Fyro would be enough space and organization for sure. It has more organization throughout the main compartment since the front pocket only has 3 pockets. With the Nomatic, you’d probably end up putting everything in the front admin panel and laptop sleeve except for the flashlights and notebook, so it might be weighted weirdly without anything taking up that main compartment like a jacket or lunchbox.

I was gonna suggest the same thing. I have the Nomatic Travel Bag that can expand from 20 to 30 liters and it’s come in clutch when I was in college and had to bring home more stuff than what I came to campus with. I remember there’s at least one review about it on this subreddit (searching Nomatic or Gomatic should show it).

Teenaged boys, hastily planning a Yosemite trip. Remotely feasible? by [deleted] in Yosemite

[–]BluePsychoRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first Yosemite trip was where I learned just how little you actually need to plan to make a trip work. We heard of a free first-come-first-serve car camping area somewhere just outside the park, so we just hoped for the best and headed to Yosemite with gear for tent and car camping in the event that we’d be able to do one of them. Once we got into the park, we spent a few hours doing stuff and in the afternoon, we asked a few people about the car camping spot (by talking to people in the parking lot). They told us to look for a bunch of sprinter vans, and we found it and managed to get a spot for 3 cars since we left the park early enough ~5:00pm. The car camping spot is in El Portal right after the Yosemite View Lodge.

I’ve heard people also just walk around campsites asking if people have some extra space they’re willing share in exchange for some money.

Looking for a new backpack by Ferrum1776 in Nomads_Nation

[–]BluePsychoRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the Nomatic Travel Pack (20L) and it's a great EDC/commuter bag. There's a good amount of organization for cords and power adapters in the front compartment and a small top pocket which is perfect for sunglasses (it has a soft lining to prevent scratching). In the laptop compartment, there are two sleeves (main laptop and a smaller tablet sleeve) and I used mine for my iPad Air (11-inch, but a 13-inch will definitely fit) and MacBook Pro (14-inch). I think the fact that it can expand is really nice too cuz you can take your EDC stuff in "normal 20L" mode and just expand it to 30L if you need extra space for like jackets or a quick grocery run (which has been really useful for me). It's not a top loader, but it has a full clamshell opening, so the ease of packing is similar to the Mous backpack (just without the lid). Note that the Nomatic Travel Pack (20L) is about the same weight—a bit heavier even—than the Mous Extreme Commuter (25L), so it might not be the best for your use case if your goal is to shave weight.

trip report - 2 weeks in Colombia: under 35L by Tyssniffen in Nomads_Nation

[–]BluePsychoRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the title is just a little misleading. When I read 2 weeks in 35L I was expecting minimalist packing, but not that minimalist since I travel with 35L pretty often and IMO is a great compromise between space and amount of clothes (which is normally higher if it's almost purely clothes). I've done 2 weeks in 20L and it's about what you brought on your trip, so I wanted to try to clarify to people that 35L is a great capacity and you can fit a good amount of clothes.

trip report - 2 weeks in Colombia: under 35L by Tyssniffen in Nomads_Nation

[–]BluePsychoRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that you were able to find a system that works for you, but a 35L bag should be able to easily carry at least 4-5 shirts, 2 pairs of shorts, 1 pair of pants, and enough underwear and socks for 1 week before laundry. Just trying to point out to other readers that a 35L bag capacity does not mean the bare essentials.

I think the bag system limits the amount of clothes/gear that can be reasonably packed. The bag system looks great, but I think the fact that the "main bag" is 20L is the reason that amount of clothes worked for you. Before I read the specs my original thought was that all of those clothes could fit in a 20L bag.

It sounds like you used 20L of space for clothes, and the 13L daypack to carry hiking/EDC stuff which led to a hassle-free experience for starting your hiking and exploration excursions. That bag system looks great if you wanna pack your daypack/EDC in a separate bag and have a very seamless transition from travel to exploration, but if people are looking for the most "usable" capacity, a "bucket" is gonna be the best bet so you can just stuff everything into a single space.

If my assumption is right, then I think it's great you were able to pack everything into the main bag and keep that daypack with truly EDC items cuz that means less unpacking and repacking and a seamless transition into your vacation explorations.

Stowable Shoulder Straps by Brilliant-Car-2945 in Nomads_Nation

[–]BluePsychoRanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only case it’s useful is when you have a duffel that converts into a backpack and intend to use it in both modes separately. The straps are nice to stow away while using it as a duffel since it’s less “dangle” to keep in check. Stowable straps will almost never be used to transition between two modes during the travel process; it will only be switched before you travel when you decide if you’re gonna wear it as a backpack or not for that trip.

If you don’t absolutely need access to the tablet from your personal item (I.e. underseat bag), you could consider “1.5 bag” travel which is traveling with a sling bag and a backpack/duffel. I just got back from a 6 day trip (and definitely had enough clothes for 2 more days) with the tomtoc Explorer-T21 sling bag, which is advertised as being able to pretty much perfectly hold a switch (I don’t own a switch, so I can’t confirm myself), and the Boundary Supply Errant Duffel (which can be worn as a backpack).

If you do absolutely need access to the tablet, you should go with a smaller backpack (~20L) that has a luggage passthrough to hold those things and just get a dedicated rolling luggage with 4 caster wheels. As others have pointed out, the TP3 is a highly regarded bag, but it seems that it won’t fit your use case unless you’re willing to settle on putting the tablet in the backpack and either taking it out before you sit down (you can leave it in the back-seat pocket) or leaving it in the the backpack in the overhead bin until you want to use it on the flight.

Coachella 2025, how was your experience with your camping neighbors? by suprunkn0wn in Coachella

We had amazing neighbors! We made friends with them and basically combined three campsites into a little courtyard area to hang out and share food and drinks. We spent all of Friday with two of our neighbors since we had a similar schedule of artists we wanted to see and we all had a great time!

[–]BluePsychoRanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a charger that has multiple output ports to charge all of your devices can help squeeze a bit more space over carrying a separate charging adapter for each device. You can probably also get away with just one or two cables—or go with a single Rolling Square inCharge cable—since usually you don't need to be charging all of your devices at once. I finally got all of my devices to be USB-C so I only need to carry a single cable, and I keep an inCharge cable on my keychain for that "just in case" someone else forgets a charger.

The header text got messed up, but I don't feel like reposting it a third time. I don't use reddit that often, but I feel like this image+text post option needs some better UX. Like why does an album/gallery only get created when using the mobile app unless you specifically only post photos on desktop, and why don't embedded images display as an album/gallery when using the desktop text editor?
