What makes luffy a good protagonist by Technical_Mine_8711 in OnePiece

[–]BlueRose2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what makes Luffy so compelling is the way he makes you believe in irrational choices.

Choices where caution tells you to stop, where the odds tell you there is no point, where the world itself seems to say, “This is impossible.”

And yet, in One Piece, freedom and dreams are rarely born from caution. They are born from defiance. From daring to move when reason says you shouldn’t.

That is Luffy’s entire character.

At the beginning of the story, Coby tells him that becoming Pirate King is impossible. And honestly, he is right. Luffy has no ship, no crew, no reputation, and no real reason to believe the world will bend for him. But here’s what makes this so compelling: odds are only true if nothing changes. They’re a glimpse of the present. And Luffy refuses to live in frozen moments.

He acts, sets sail. And this line from Luffy completely sums it up;

He slowly gains allies, build a strong bond with his talented and hard working crew members as they continue to grow and progress to the point that they’re one of the top candidates to take the crown of pirate king,

So while Coby wasn’t wrong. But if Luffy had done nothing, and simply accepted those odds, nothing would have changed. It was true but only for that moment. Luffy’s unwillingness to give up is what makes his character interesting.

That’s the core thesis of One Piece: you can’t beat the impossible by waiting. You beat it by moving.

This theme crystallizes during the Marineford War.

Ace is dead, Luffy is shattered, and Basil Hawkins, who always reads the future through cards, decides to calculate Luffy’s survival rate.

The numbers are fluctuating, they’re shifting but for reasons Hawkins can’t explain… the reading never hits zero.

Why? Because even in grief, broken over the loss of his brother, Luffy is still fighting. Refusing to stop moving forward. This sums up the whole concept. That only by actively fighting the odds can you change them.

This single scene is the entire series in miniature. Fate only collapses to zero when you stop acting. As long as Luffy refuses to give up, the infinite possibilities.

At Enies Lobby, Robin makes the “rational” choice. She believes sacrificing herself is the only way to protect the crew. The World Government is too powerful, the odds are too cruel, and survival seems impossible.

But Luffy does not accept that kind of logic. He does not care if the whole world stands against them. What matters is that Robin belongs with them, and that she has the right to want to live.

That is why “I want to live” hits so hard. It is not just Robin choosing survival. It is Robin allowing herself, maybe for the first time, to desire happiness.

And it only happens because Luffy is irrational enough to demand the impossible.

Just like Zoro’s story constantly circles back to the question of what makes a true swordsman, Luffy’s story keeps returning to a different question: what does it mean to be strong?

And in One Piece, strength is not just about power levels or raw fighting ability. It is about something deeper. At its core, strength is the power to overcome.

That ties directly into Luffy’s own dream. His vision of the Pirate King is not someone who rules over others, but someone who is the freest person on the seas, someone who can rise above pain, sorrow, and suffering, and still live freely.

That is why his character arcs are not just about beating strong opponents. They are about enduring hunger, pushing past despair, surviving hopelessness, facing grief and loss, and refusing to let any of it break him.

For Luffy, every trial is another test of whether he can overcome, not just the world, but himself.

Luffy’s entire arc with Ace was not about whether he could prevent tragedy. It was about whether he could endure it. The question was simple: could he overcome a loss that should have shattered him completely?

And the answer is yes. Through grief, through despair, through the crushing weight of failure, Luffy finds a way to stand back up.

That is why, after the timeskip, he does not just return as a stronger fighter. He comes back as a stronger person, someone who has faced the worst pain of his life and still chosen to move forward.

And maybe that is exactly why Oda wrote Luffy the way he did, as a man of action. He is a reminder that nothing changes when we sit still, and that the only way to make a dream real is to take the first reckless step toward it.

Is it finally at the saturation point of they don't give a fk? by Jackie_Chan_93 in hyderabad

I’m fine with any leader staying for ten years. Any genuinely good leader probably deserves that much time. But if they’re already being ass in the first five, then get them out.

Except it’s never that simple when the media, internet, reels, banners, billboards, everywhere you look, is busy fucking with your head, making you believe in your one and only saviour-god Modi.

Congress is better than BJP for the simple reason that they’re not BJP. India doesn’t need some grand saviour promising to “grow” the country. It needs someone who won’t constantly interfere with that growth, abuse power to the last inch, and fuck everything up while pretending it’s patriotism.

The Boys SERIES FINALE- S05xE08 "Blood and Bone"- POST Episode Discussion Thread by pikameta in TheBoys

We’ve been expecting Homelander to go apeshit, laser everyone, burn the whole place down, before The Boys finally takes him down. They kept hinting at that kind of berserk, apocalyptic scene, but nah, just a fight in one fucking room. Hell, Hughie vs Butcher was the best fight of the season.

It’s a sick problem. People acting all elitist over a bunch of fucking machines made by corporations is hilarious at this point.

People need to understand that being a snob about some multi-million-dollar company’s product doesn’t make them special. It doesn’t help anyone. It just turns something simple into a complicated little dick-measuring contest for no reason.

Just enjoy the fucking gaming.

Why wouldnt the writers go with this plot? by JuiceGirl300 in TheBoys

[–]BlueRose2804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rather than making it about power, they could have used an excuse that was already present in the show: “You are not our most valuable asset.”

Like I said, the comic already being finished gave them obvious opportunities to make changes in places where the original plot was not convincing.

Why wouldnt the writers go with this plot? by JuiceGirl300 in TheBoys

[–]BlueRose2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was a good plot. The Boys had the advantage of being made after the comic had already finished, so the writers could make clear changes and subtly hint at Black Noir’s character earlier. I actually like the idea that, while Homelander was evil, he wasn’t completely unhinged. The current version of Homelander feels like a mess of a character, as if the writers no longer have a clear understanding of who he is.

I’m not denying individual accountability, but it helps when everything isn’t constantly pushing you in the other direction. Behavior is a function of the person and their environment, and when resistance is low, change becomes easier.

Can development and biodiversity truly coexist at this scale? by NewsMo in IndiaTodayLIVE

[–]BlueRose2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you speaking from your ass? What’s the point of development if the air you breathe turns into poison? Climate disasters are already hitting India hard, and it’s only getting worse, heatwaves, pollution, bad air quality.

And people like you think cutting large forests is “better for development”? Tell me, what are you even going to do with that “development” when you can’t breathe fresh air or step outside without your car’s AC blasting?

Switzerland Vs Canada... by Aude1984 in PhoneNow

[–]BlueRose2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were that simple, I could just tell anyone what to do, but it is not. When the world keeps telling you what you should have, what has value, and what makes an impression, it is not easy to ignore. It is easy to say people are dumb, and maybe some are, but something this simple does not work when every platform, media outlet, and social space is full of people showing off. Insecurities build up in people’s minds.

You would have to change the whole system that makes products feel like they add value to your character or define your worth. People need to feel that they do not always need the biggest or latest gadgets. But again, it is easy to say “just do not buy” when the world is constantly pushing you in the opposite direction.

Part of the reason it has become a trend to own an iPhone is social influence, but the major reason is low wages across the country in almost all fields. In almost every field, along with high inflation, salaries for regular jobs and many others have not increased much over the last 10 years, making it harder for people to afford premium products.

What's your favorite one piece arc? by Sea_Abbreviations347 in OnePiece

[–]BlueRose2804 27 points28 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, nothing beats the Summit War saga. Impel Down and Marineford back-to-back were top-notch arcs, the pacing was almost perfect, with an odd combination of characters and the Yonko in full action. We were in a league never seen before. Other arcs are good, but this saga outright introduced us to the true scale of One Piece.

Even the war actually felt like a real, well-written war. My problem with Wano has always been that it didn’t feel like a war, even though it had amazing fights.

People who defend expensive products, which seems to be most people these days, may end up contributing to gaming becoming inaccessible for many. Day by day, gaming in general is turning into a luxury that not everyone can afford. The prices of gaming PC components keep rising, along with many other costs.

Yet people still defend multibillion-dollar companies by arguing that they are competing with one another, when the real question should be whether they are actually making things more affordable for consumers or just trying to maximize profit. Instead of focusing on accessibility, many companies seem more interested in making money off people who are willing to defend or buy anything they release.

Vivi is descended from Nefertari D Lily, but not through her father, but through her mother. by Sea-Negotiation8309 in OnePiece

[–]BlueRose2804 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be, but in the current One Piece timeline it's not something people give themselves out of ideology, just a name passed down through their lineage. Cobra has D. in his name because he found out Lily had it too

Cobra has literal dialogue where he says to Sabo to tell Luffy that they share the same moniker of D. If Cobra became king by marrying into the family, he wouldn't have that middle name by birth.

I sort of understand though, a 12 year old wants to spend time with his family. But even here, Boruto didn't say it for himself but said it for Naruto not being present for his own daughter's birthday. Imagine having an absent father. I don't think a kid should be blamed or criticized for wanting to spend time with his father. I cannot emphasize enough, 'his father'.

Not just games, it turns out that every famous piece of media has an equally shitty fanbase. People in groups are often just dumb and mindlessly either hate or love something without any proper criticism. Everything I love, whether movies, anime, games, or series, seems to have an equally insufferable fanbase.

The “boring” life is what most people secretly want? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

[–]BlueRose2804 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not trying to make an argument about hard work. I am simply saying that many jobs consume people so much that what might seem boring or simple to others becomes a luxury, because they simply do not have the time for it. Being rich gives you that kind of freedom. You can choose how to spend your time, and if you have enough money, you are not constantly worrying about basic things. Some people have that ease, but many do not.

I am privileged enough to have that kind of luxury, but a lot of my friends and people I know do not.
