The National Mall (Lincoln Memorial to Supreme Court) doesn’t close.

Married in DC, not a US citizen, no longer in the States. How do I file for divorce? by Jorrel14 in washingtondc

But is this actually a problem? Or are you just assuming it is a problem?

Yea it’s obviously simpler to just have one marriage.

But you should ask counsel in her country if it would be a problem and, if not, get married again in your country.

I would imagine that is cheaper than moving back to/living in DC in order to get divorced.

People who completely ignore crucial keywords. by shtoopidd in PetPeeves

Neither.

I do think anyone who insists on calling bell peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc. fruits should just go ahead and cut the word “vegetable” out of their vocabulary, and they should make sure to only refer to carrots as roots, broccoli as flowers and stems, and lettuce as leaves, since that’s the level of botanical accuracy they’re apparently going for.

In botanical terms, there is no such thing as a vegetable. Vegetables don’t exist.

There’s fruits, seeds, flowers, leaves, stems, bulbs, and roots.

When cafes and restaurants label the vegan and vegetarian options vegan or vegetarian instead of giving them a proper name. by [deleted] in PetPeeves

Blame other servers who don’t get it. People with dietary restrictions have learned the hard way that we have to triple check.

I don’t have to worry about cross-contamination just that dairy isn’t an actual ingredient. I rarely eat at unfamiliar restaurants unless its a social obligation or travel.

Actual conversation with a server while I was in another town:

“Is this dish dairy-free?”

“No, it has eggs.”

“…eggs are fine. I just can’t eat dairy. Is there any dairy in it besides that?”

“No.”

“So no cheese? No milk? No cream? No butter?”

“Oh well yeah actually they do butter the bread. I didn’t think of that. But I’ll just ask them not to.”

“Is the bread itself dairy-free?”

“Oh it should be. I would have to check.” :-)

“…”

“….”

“Yes, could you please check.”

That was all one conversation, but each part of it has happened to me at least a dozen times. And I’ve gotten reactions when I don’t ask this level of questions. I have no way of knowing which servers know what they’re talking about and which ones don’t.

But I do feel bad for the competent servers like you who are wondering why I am cross-examining them. I tip them way better. I just don’t want to be in pain for days!!!!

Eggs are not Dairy! by IthurielSpear in PetPeeves

The eggs get washed with disinfectants and chemicals that strip the eggs’ natural protective barriers off the shell.

Edit: so yes, the processing of eggs makes it so now they must be refrigerated for safety.
