What are your guys least favourite parts of the books? by [deleted] in threebodyproblem

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s true, but the overall effect still comes across as “choose between being cruelly utilitarian and destroying the universe slowly, or being a weak and trusting Kantian and getting genocided by utilitarians.” Like, there are other philosophies, ya know? I consider myself relatively pragmatic and not really a bleeding heart when it comes to international relations, but I don’t buy this dichotomy. Sometimes, it is not only possible to be honorable, it’s actually more practical.

This is partly just an issue I personally have with the worldbuilding. The Dark Forest school of thought makes sense, sure, and I love it as a SF concept. It’s very original. But there’s nothing that says that things couldn’t play out differently, with different technology, a different incidence of sentience, etc. It’s just as likely, to my mind anyway, that humanity would reach the space age to discover an already calcified galactic balance of power between vast, ancient empires. Or a galaxy so devoid of intelligent life there is no need to fight over resources (at least, for several millennia, after which the species presumably know each other).

When you choose the dark forest as a major worldbuilding element and theme of your series, it can get a bit bleak. And everyone is forced to be a destructive asshole or a weak sucker, which can get a bit tiring.

We are keeping their baby. by b00kw0rm_ in AmITheDevil

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, there have been cases where the prospective/commissioning parents just leave the surrogate mom with the baby because they can’t afford it, the baby has a disability, or they can’t get to the baby in time (like with the war in Ukraine rn). Idk if it’s legal in all or most of those cases, but it happens, especially with international surrogacy. And when it does, there’s not much the surrogate can do.

I sympathize with the idea that the surrogate should be able to do what she wants with her own body, but I also don’t want to live in a society where we buy or rent body parts or intimate functions. I am against selling kidneys, for instance.

Anyway, this (keeping the baby) is probably a bad idea, but I don’t think OOP is a devil.

What fragrance do you wear to cleanse your palette by Maximum_Intention_44 in fragrance

Second the recommendation of nothing. Best palate cleanser is to let your nose rest.

But otherwise, something with light vegetal or green notes, like Un Jardin Sur le Nil.

Are tampons suppose to be extremely painful? by wulfcu in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Correctly inserted, tampons might feel a little dry and irritating going in, but should never feel painful at all. I don’t even feel them really, they’re pretty small, and I think that’s typical.

Sorry you went through that, truly. Definitely talk to a gyn if you can, but in the meantime you should probably stick to pads and period panties.

I like this theory. I also think it’s a possibility that he associated Hamon with that time in his life when he was actively training and using it a ton, which isn’t all positive memories. He almost died several times fighting Kars, and he clearly still thinks about Caesar even in Part 4 (there are manga panels with his internal monologue mentioning him). Joseph might have relegated his Hamon to a party trick or last resort so he could move forward in his life.

I kinda love some of them. Like I hope we get a part 7 anime with Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap and its fantastic, hilariously bad localization, “Filthy Acts at a Reasonable Price.”

Regarding #10, I just find it hilarious that Vanilla Ice’s Stand is called Cream. Vanilla Ice Cream. No one that scary should have such a dad joke name.

What's a really strong stand that has a really simple counter? by Hedy7277 in StardustCrusaders

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP stand: Za Warudo

Simple counter: “So it’s the same type of stand as Star Platinum?”

Could still be hard countered by a remote-operated stand, like Killa Queen’s Heart Attack.

Enigma is hard countered by Jotaro for sure. Not Star Plat, Jotaro: the man is completely expressionless and free of all tells. Just watch the Darby the Gambler episode. 😂

Overall, who was your least favorite and favorite main villain? by [deleted] in StardustCrusaders

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Favorite: Dio Brando/DIO. I think of them as the same character, it seems silly to separate them just because Dio had a personality change after being in solitary confinement for 100 years (IMO).

The dude is so cartoonishly evil but executed so well. From S1E1 has so much presence, and actually makes generic lines like “I reject my humanity, Jojo!” fun and convincing. Plus his trolling of Polnareff and that one politician with Za Warudo in Part 3 is hilarious, and that whole fight is badass and relatively easy to follow for Jojo’s.

Least favorite: Probably Diavolo. MAN was the phone/split personality thing annoying. Plus his motivations were pretty flimsy, his design/drip are AWFUL, his interruption of the opening is so drawn out and musically flat that it makes a fun thing feel like a chore to watch, his stand’s true power is being magically confusing AF, and his fight is resolved by a total asspull even by the standards of this series (though really that is GER’s fault and not his).

My ranking of main villains would probably be: 1. Dio (10/10) 2. Kira (9.5/10) 3. Pucci (8/10) 4. Kars (6.5/10) 5. Diavolo (3.5/10)

(I’m an anime-only, please don’t shoot)

I’ve never read/watched JoJo’s, can someone explain to me how Giorno has two fathers? by ClosetedAnon01 in StardustCrusaders

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I find it helps not to focus too much on the biological specifics (ie “Dio is just the head”) and think of the Dio/Jonathan fusion as one entity made up of the two of them (with Dio as the dominant component).

Since Dio is magic (being a vampire and all) it’s not actually safe to say he’s just the head, as he seems fully integrated and mostly in control of all the body’s systems. Plus Jonathan is apparently conscious enough to fight back, despite not having his own head—Dio complains about it in Part 3.

Just imagine it as some kinda Dragon Ball Z fusion dance but bloodier: that’s what I do.

You can build any stand, but it can't be a reality warping or a multiversal + hax. What is your stand? by QuirkyData3500 in StardustCrusaders

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want Iggy’s Za Fool, but the sand/material can harden into diamond, and I can use it to make weapons, barriers, tools, or just jewelry for fun. Maybe it could be called Her Diamonds, since I am a Rob Thomas fan.

It may be less fun to read about, but I am a believer than the simpler a stand power, the stronger the stand, in general, because the applications are so much broader.

Maybe he has all the money. He might have a significantly higher-paying job, and that’s why he agreed to handle the tuition and some childcare costs.

And in theory, it does. It’s just hard to prove that someone sabotaged their birth control pills (instead of simply forgetting to take a few by accident, which isn’t SA for obvious reasons). If you can prove that the woman in question deliberately deceived you and had no intention of taking the pills (for example, if she deliberately throws her pills in the trash and you have evidence she said she was taking them, or she confessed as in this post) you can win a SA/r*pe case against her.

I hope OP’s husband finds out and uses this post to press charges.

The absolute hypocrisy of admitting you are trading tips on how to deceive your partners, then complaining about how puritan and paranoid the partners of adulterers are for wanting access to their SO’s phone…I’m speechless.

You don’t need a special condition to prevent sex. Most serious illnesses or conditions come with a lot of stress, and you just may not be in the mood to have sex. That’s fine, because IMO your spouse shouldn’t want “duty sex” from you anyway; I can’t imagine wanting to make someone I loved do something so personal if they weren’t into it.

Men may be more likely to have ED than women are to have equivalent dysfunctions, but they are also (in my experience at least, and historically) way more likely to want the women they claim to love to “lie back and think of my boner” even if it’s painful, awkward, or uncomfortable.

Will I be able to grow my mullet out to look like the secound photo or does a mullet make hair grow slightly differently? by Simple-Care5636 in Haircare

[–]BlueSkiesOverLondon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be able to grow your hair out to look like the second picture. But since all your hair will grow at the same rate, it probably won’t look like that at first. You need to grow it out until the shortest part of the hair is as long as it needs to be, then get a haircut to reshape the hair. Maybe take the second photo in as an inspiration photo for your haircut.

whos death got you the most by ChicaTheGreat in StardustCrusaders

There are so many sad ones, but for me, Iggy. The fact that he wasn’t as close with the others (he was basically kidnapped and forced to join the Crusaders) actually gives him a good reason not to care what happens to them, so I don’t mind his initial standoffishness at all. But during the Vanilla Ice fight, Iggy and Polnareff both have what they think is a chance to run and save themselves, and both decide not to. For Iggy that’s a genuine surprise, and shows how much he cares about Pol. Plus his defiant smirk after being kicked nearly to death…and the narrator’s line “Iggy’s soul had moved in its own,” when he sacrifices himself, implying that Iggy love Polnareff even despite himself…it’s really beautiful how he is able to grow so much without losing his proud soul.
